As a Mom of young adult children I can tell you the best tip of all time is to get yourself up and ready one hour before your children get up.Taking a calm shower, having that welcome first cup of coffee, breakfast and kids clothes ready, back packs and lunches ready,( the night before) makes for a great morning, every morning. Also picking up your home before bed time makes facing the new day so much nicer and calmer :)

I think for me, I shower before bed so when I wake up I am all set. But otherwise I agree: prep lunch and bags the night before, and making your bed is big help! I let my daughter eat with me during breakfast, but I get her dressed first then I get ready while she plays before daycare

Mom of two adult children and one 16 y.o. here and I totally agree. Mornings in my house were never hectic and I think this may have helped. It's possible that me being calm and centered made me more patient. I'm the same way at work: arrive almost an hour early, actually enjoy my coffee, work a crossword, read, or listen to an YT video/podcast. Then jump into my day refreshed as everyone arrives frantic or moaning, groaning, and depressed. (It helps that I'm an introvert.)

I love your tips. My son is 14 now but I wish I had some of these years ago. One meal tip I have for you is to buy a pack of chicken breast. Cut the breast into quarter and boil them in water, poultry seasoning and Italian seasoning for about an hour and then shred it when it's done. You can make numerous things with it and you can store it in the fridge for up to two weeks.

2 of my boys (2yrs & 3yrs) each have their own mini backpack. We keep a change of clothes, their sunglasses, a little pack of wet wipes, a couple toys and coloring things in there. Oh and headphones. When we leave they both know to get their bag. My 3 yr old will put his iPad mini in as well. I love that they have busy items and they love being independent and having a bag like their older brothers. They each have their own little umbrella and fold up chair in the vehicle too!

YES! CUBE SHELVING is a God send! but becasue my kids have so many sub categories, I use the plastic shoe boxes from the dollar store and labels. i can fit 2, sometimes 3 in each cube. And then we use a book shelf for other toys like stuffed animals, and displaying built lego sets. It's what works for us. Then of course everything is labeled. Best system we've ever used for kids toys. If it doesn't fit in the toy areas, we purge, etc. Thanks for your channel! You have SO MANY great ideas!

What a FANTASTIC video. Your kids will be empowered and confident in their ability to meet their needs AND get things done, thanks to you treating them like "little, growing people" instead of babying them/doing everything for them.
    God Bless You, thank you

I have to say I am so glad my children don't get to choose what to wear everyday. Uniforms make it so much easier for this not-a-morning-person-mummy!

Oh how I love ❤️ your channel! You open up the door for dialogue on subjects that some may give you the "side-eye" for. As a mom of five, I can identify with feelings of sometimes not wanting to move to get another snack or the disappointment of putting so much effort into dinner only to have no one really eat it etc., etc. I've learned countless great tips from you! Your channel is truly awesome!

Love the bin system too. That's a great idea to have their own designated place for kids dinnerware. My 8yr old daughter can get her breakfast too. The coat flip is fantastic. Thank you 😊

That coat flip is amazing!! If only it would zip itself too! And, by the way, "lazy" moms produce independent kids. I love it when my kids come to me with problems they have already tried to solve, yet they know I will help them and am always there for love.

Love these tips! Here's my fave for toys: I do larger bins and larger categories for toys. So we have a "transportation bin" which houses all trucks, trains, planes, cars etc. I thrifted one of those Pottery Barn kids tables with the storage bins underneath and I love it. One bin is transportation and the other "building" i.e. blocks and legos. This way we can all just throw stuff in the bins and it's even more simple than sorting out the cars and trains etc. Also, I have one small bin for the "kids are gonna cry if they lose this" toy. So all Paw Patrol goes there because they actually care to know where every single pup is, but with other, non-character based toys, we just throw those in one of the larger bins.

Thank you! So many moms give me a hard time cause I let my kids make there own food. I have always thought my boys they can get there own breakfast, and lunch. I am ok if my kids re hungry they can get there own snacks. They feel so good they even want to make me coffee at times too. They also do there own laundry ages started 4years old. Finally anouther mommy that is like me

Great tips! even for those of us who are not moms. I totally support encouraging children to be independent. Most of the time they want to do it for themselves, or at least that's my experience with my nieces and nephews. I work at a university and you would be surprised what some of the students can't do for themselves. Also, I have a bin of a few select toys in my home and when my friends with kids come over, the kids make a beeline to the bin. I did the standing coat flip as a kid!!

I had to help him the first month or two of school but now he can do it by himself and I just do a quick check when I wake up pull it out of the fridge and throw an ice pack in it :)

LOOOVE your hacks!!! Yes, if they can do it on their own, why can’t they? I have four kids myself (15, 10, 6, 3) and they can actually make their own breakfast (cereal, toast, pancakes, etc) which gives me time to do other things. I love the “car pack”! That’s a great idea! Thank you again!

I have a separate kid dish bin, too. My house has really high ceilings and the little ones can't reach up high. I had a plastic set- which I recently changed to stainless for health reasons.
We don't eat meat, but I find filling little mason jars with washed and cut fruit (with plastic lids) is very helpful. They can open the fridge and a jar and it gets the fruits and veggies in.

Love your tips for getting kids to do more things on their own. It serves them so much better in the long run. My boys are 19 and 22 now… They've been doing their own laundry since the age of 11. Life skills! I'm not raising young men that cannot do for themselves and others. We as mothers of course can do things for our children… But teaching them to take care of themselves is super important for them being well functioning adults. I had a friend that was making her children's lunches for them when they were in college. How are those children ever going to learn that they actually have to take care of themselves. Is she going to move in with them when they're married? That's exactly how to make a spoiled and entitled human being. We don't need any more of those running around.

my kids (2 and 5) love to help me, I think they feel useful :) they almost every time tidy up their toys and all the pillows... I put a glass of water on the counter, they can drink it, I refill it whenever I go to kitchen.
in our country, unfortunately, mothers tend to feed their kids until they go to school or older. I let them make a mess and learn to eat on their own. now I only help my 2 years old son, when he doesn't like the food but know that he has to eat (or no pasta and dessert ) :)

You know yourksure pudding, my mom from Scotland and miss so much English food, little tip I can't afford the cubbies as much so I bought crates and used dollar bins works great too, I so food prep I try use healthy snacks like fruit so I cut up them put snack bags and I did my cereal and bread same way. Yes children need to know basic skills, I teach my kids to cook too! You are so like me , my youngest can read and has his to do list on what his chores when gets home. Such as homework, let dogs out, change dog water and he is learning to fold his own laundry, I am still reorganizing my house since I have to kids moved out they are in 20's so enjoy you kids now because they grow so fast. My youngest is 11 and my last daughter will be 19 soon and graduated this year so far all my kids have great social lives and made good choices, yes few bumps in road but, because I did what you doing now I feel confident they can clean, cook and take care of them selves. This also makes for less arguments on who does what . I have 4 children in 2500 sq foot house not biggest but with organization made it work with only 4 rooms kept the mortgage down so we could give our children a fun childhood but means everyone needs to help! Love your idea most of time I do most anyway and sometimes times take just step further thanks going to see how you Declutter your kitchen next on the list

I haven't watched Gilmore Girls yet but my daughter (19) loves the show. By the way, all the little things you do to help your children be more independent well...good for you! I'm an early childhood educator and a mom. I did little things like you recommended when my kids were little and I'm happy to report they are self-sufficient adults! (19 & 23)

I let my kids get their own dry cereal in the morning too. We actually have a breakfast nook upstairs, outside of the bedrooms, it's my favourite thing in the house.. I can get my coffee without going downstairs. Hehe

You kept the best for the last :) I live in Belgium, where there is little light as well (we have 'la grisaille' - grey weather most of the year), so I empathize.
