Sir, I just found your site. I’m sure you and your readers know what a fine gentleman Eric is. I met him 20 years ago and purchased his shooting pouch and the first horn he turned on a peddle lath he had recently found. He is a true gunsmith in the 18th century styles. I was excited to find your gun review. What a treasure!!! Charlie Brooks
Serious cool pistol. Eric's work is something anyone would love to own. You are a lucky man to have this.
Mike McGuire Yessir! I feel lucky! I’ve said it before but I think he’s a genius! Thanks Mike!
Very nice looking pistol. Beautiful craftsmanship.
As always Bob, great video. You might try a bare ball on top of the powder with a wad over the ball to hold it in place... Let the cone of flame center the ball on the way out of the barrel. Worth a try anyway.
Yessir. I’ll probably give that a whirl too! Thanks!
Neat little pistol, always great to have something to play with, thanks for sharing!!
Yes it is. Thanks Michael!
Nifty! The Hudson Bay fur trade company sold brass barrelled pistols by Ketland, also around .60 which were often used with shot instead of ball (think swan shot).
Nice pistol, Bob! I've always liked the look of a brass barrel. Some day I'll need to buy something that has one.
Thanks Kyle! I agree, brass looks great! My first one!
Nice pistol, and like the style of the brass barrel. I can hardly wait that our shooting range opens again.....
Homemade History Thanks! I hope it opens soon! I’m lucky enough to have a range here on the farm. It’s made this last few months bearable.
The old timers used paper cartridges for smooth bores. I have always made up a bunch and put them in my cartridge box the night before.
Cool vid enjoyed it
Beautiful pistol, really enjoy your video.
Thanks Guy!
Hi Bob! THAT is a sharp looking pistol! At .60 caliber, I would hate to be looking down the business end of it... no matter the distance! I picked up a technique from Steve Davis, over at Stillwater Woodcraft, a while back. He takes his lubricated strip of patching material, then folds it in half lengthwise. He then cuts through most of it on the folded side. This leaves each patch still barely attached to the strip at two corners that is easily torn off. Give it a try and see what you think! I'll be looking forward to seeing this one out on the range again real soon.
Not a bad idea Martin! Thanks! Yep, she's a big bored little lady and a hoot to shoot!
Bob I have a charter arms boomer 44 special. it has a 2in barrel on about a J frame size. it is for up close social work. with out any sights it shoots high! so shooting and hitting without sights ain't easy as people think. good video brother,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
No it isn't! Thanks Olskool! the little .44 Spl sounds like fun!
Crazy cool pistol! Love the brass.
Thanks Dwayne! Yea, she's a beaut, I love the unique.....
Beautiful pistol.
That looks like fun.
I've only ever fired rifled bp guns but can't wait to try my first smoothbore. Hope I can actually hit something tho...
That is one sweet little pistol.
Thanks James! I'm not a huge pistol guy but that thing called my name! I love it! Did another video on it today that I'm editing as we speak to post this weekend. Probably this evening!
I love how you say "pocket pistol." It gives me visions that this was the 1700s version of a Taurus .380. I don't think I could hide that in my cutoff blue jean shorts. LOL Great video. What was on the inscription on the wrist? I couldn't catch it. Cool gun Bobby!
Steven Bowen LoL. That’s what it was called in the day but they meant coat pocket as that was about the only pocket anyone had. Do you mean the thumb piece? It’s just a pattern. Thanks Steve!
@@BlackPowderTV Yes. I didn't know if you had a neat engraving on it.
Loading a black powder pistol can be a pain! Good video!
Yes they can, especially a rifled one. My Pop says it's "Like wrastling an Octopus".....
Great video really enjoy in it so much so that I started talking back to you on the video LOL hey will you have problems with a tow or patches burning out of a rifle how about lubed patches such as commercial patches or pillow ticking lubed
Pistolas are a lot of fun to shoot. I bought a cheap 36 navy probably 40 years ago and literally shot that thing till it fell apart. Pound of powder and balls lasted forever. Had my first chain fire with it. Was a lot more liberal with the crisco after that. That 60 cal would sure give someone a belly ache ...............
Yes they are! Thanks Johnny! Chain fires will sure startle you!
Cool. 😎
Thanks Dave! She’s a sweety!
That's awesome !
Cool little pistol! I'm not much of a pistol guy but loved this thing when i first saw it! Thanks!
A true gentleman's pistol!
@Black Powder TV beautiful pistol how much is it for one of those sir im in the market for one?
It’s a custom made gun. You can get one for something between $1000 and $1500. Pretty expensive.
@@BlackPowderTV thank you sir and great video btw
👍 = es gibt nichts mehr zu sagen! Alles perfekt!
Extremely nice pistol !! (Tip) When mama wears out a set of dish towels, she gives them to me and I wear one, hanging from my back pocket, to wipe my hands on !! Just another piece of the gear !! Stay Safe !!
My old white tshirts and kitchen towels get stacked in my shop. I go through them like crazy. Always have one or two in my range box. Excellent point again!
Shooting steel at that close distance is crazy
Our range line is set beyond the distances used by international pistol competition associations and the FBI’s range at Quantico for shooting AR500 steel targets, so yea, not really all that crazy when you think about it.
Also, fyi, it’s probably the lenses I use on my camera to compress the background that makes the distances seem less. The pistol line is 12 yards.
@@BlackPowderTV it was when you walked up closer is what I was thinking of but that soft lead splatters outwards but occasionally comes backwards as well, I’ve seen it happen firsthand
You got some big pockets to fit that hand Cannon
I use wool batting for "tow". It doesn't catch fire as easily
Tim Warnecke Very excellent tip Tim! Thanks for adding it to the comments!
Oh man, I love that. Small I like that.
Thanks! It’s a great handling little pistol!
What is toe?? Also fun gun. You are living the Dream my friend. I envy you.
Would a .55 to .57 caliber roundball work well in a .60 Caliber smoothbore?
You could try it. I’d patch them or use cards behind and in front of the balls. It probably won’t give great accuracy just loose or with cards but patched might work pretty well. 👍🏻
@@BlackPowderTV Thanks! Your channel is such a great resource for folks just getting started with black powder. 💥
Thanks for the kind words Daniel. That was my idea starting the channel. I had a few new buddies getting started and there were just no good resources for the beginner so I decided to do a small new shooter series and it just expanded from there. It’s been fun.
Can you provide the makers contact info, Please thank you. Good video.
how do i contact him for one
Those were purely defensive weapons. Probably less than 5 to 7 yards. But they sure served the purpose!
Yes, they did! Deadly when pressed against the belly! Thanks Bob!
How about: powder, ball of tow, several .25-.30 caliber balls, then another ball of tow? 🤔Beautiful little pistol, in any case. 👍
Yep, that would work too. I should've shot shot out of it. Forgot..... Thanks!
With no sights it has been my experience that you fire a little high. At least for me.
I definitely was. Thanks! My first pistola with no sights! Thanks!
Exactly! Where id the fun in figuring it out on your own. Lol Muzzleloaders of all kinds can be frustrating at times. Lol thanks for the ride.
Taking his hat off? Wow, musta really got ya just plain mad... what'd he do? Insult yer mama? Lol
I show the good, bad, and ugly. No fun in practicing with a new gun for a few hours and then videoing. You can watch that anywhere. Lol.
Just close enough to hit them, just far enough to pull your knife or sword before they get to you.
Exactly.
That's what they used to call a "Belly Pistol." You shove it in the belly and pull the trigger. Any further away and you're likely to miss.
That's about right! Thanks!
I always use paper cartridges with my smooth bore pistoles,a lot easier
i dont have a bp pistol, not sure i will.
It's never been my thing either, but they're alot of fun, I must admit.... Thanks!
You know one thing about that type of pistol if it's a smooth bore they didn't really use a heavy round ball in that gun they used buckshot load they used as a small shotgun That's one reason why it was so feared I'm a civil war reenactor and a world war II re-enactor and with those type of pistols you had better luck using a shotgun load in a 60 caliber pistol because you knew you're going to hit somebody with with one of those shotgun loads at that distance and I guarantee you that'll scare anybody off if you hit them with that with mugshot load 40 grains is probably the best grain for that pistol if you're shooting a shotgun type load it's not over powerful but it will make a lot of noise and that shot I don't think they don't like a lot of lead going down range out especially seven and a half ounce shot or number number eight shot for my shotgun load try that I think you'll have a better results
Aim at the waist hit em in the chest
That's what I'm figuring out with this, first for me, 'no sights' pistol! Thanks!
