I have two Nitecore HC30 lamps which have done me very well over the last 3 years. They don't have all the features of the NU43 but do have removeable batteries and I've used them on the Arc 100 twice. I love the brand but the non removable batteries does seem to be a mistake.
Useless fact of the day - The 18650 (pronounced eighteen six fifty) is so called as it is 18mm diameter by 65.0mm long nominaly. In practise, the length can be a few mm longer.

    Thank you for the review.
I prefer the soldered-in battery. A swappable battery has contact points that introduce resistance and failure points making them less reliable and less efficient.
A high output 15-hour burn time is enough for the vast majority of people. I’ve been using torches for 40 years and have always demanded swappable and carried spares so my brain had extreme difficulty adjusting to modern torch technology. I originally carried several spares, then when I started to trust the technology, I carried one spare. I stubbornly carried a spare for years and never used it.
You mention the limited calendar life of the battery as being one of the reasons you would prefer swappable. The battery will easily last 10 years, possibly 20 with minimal degradation. It will outlast the other torch materials. The strap and plastic materials will fail before the battery.
The manufacturer made a good decision to solder the battery in.
The battery replacement rule for races is a valid consideration. Perhaps it’s time to change the rule.

I'm still not sure about the fitted battery. I understand everything you've said but if you do have an issue with the battery, which could happen, things do break or stop working when it come to technology, then there's nothing you can do 🤷‍♂️ I still feel removable batteries are a more practical option, although Nitecore have just bought out a battery pack for this touch so it'll be interesting to see how that works 🤔
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated.

@@Run4Adventure Never had the torch in my hands but judging by the pics on their website it looks to me that the aluminium front cover is possibly glued to the battery with some kind of thermal pad or paste. I can see the logic behind it when they wanted to max out the light output while keeping the weight at check.

I only had the unit set on the 300Lumen 15 hour setting. The night temps were about 8-10C. I fully charged it and tested the unit in the hotel the next day and it lasted over 16 hours on 300L setting 🤷🏼‍♂️

Thank you for the excellent review. I'm thinking of using this for nature photography, so it'll be turned on say, for a hour or two before sunrise and/or for a few hours after sunset, so not being able to swap batteries on the fly is no big deal.
Nevertheless, from an environmentally friendly perspective, would it be possible to replace the battery after it eventually degrades too much to be usable? I wondering if it could be done with some common tools, or if Nitecore offers such a service (but at what price, and would it be worth it for something so inexpensive).

I've been using one since they came out a few months ago. It's the best head torch I've used and I've had quite a few now. Sometimes it's a tad tricky to know which mode you are in expecially if the battery power has dropped a little. I use the strap bit that goes over the top of your head. It's a clever feature which doesn't get much of a mention. Full power on full beam is something else especially for the overall weight
