How Light and Water Inspires This Japanese Glass Artist

- If you are an artist who works with glass, Murano is the place to be. The Italian island a mile north of Venice is world famous for glass production. Ritsue Mishima is a master of the craft, and her work stands out. While Murano is known for colorful glass, this Japanese artist only creates sculptures out of transparent glass. Inspired by the water all around her, she likes the way the light shines through her clear creations.

I got it too 😂
Its a really pretty story of a person who went there searching for a vase and ended up dedicating 20 years of their life to glass art
I can't recall the time when I did something that I truly love.
Sex ?
Lol 10 years ago I turned my hobby of programming and developing software as a full time job even though i had graduated as an electronics engineer and had good indepth knowledge of hardware. I should have left my hobby of developing software as side gig and should have seeked occupation in electronics. But nope people said if you do what you love for living you wont work a single day in your life. Those people were wrong. Work makes everything boring. Now i do programming and develop systems to survive and I wish i dont have to go through it day in and day out. Now i am turning into electronics as hobby..but electronics requires programming as well which i do like but hate to work cuz there is always something else to program that would rather pay me. It just sucks.
The issue isnt i find programming boring, what i hate is dealing with boring stupid clients day in and day out, listen tp their stupid complains, get frustrated by silly mistakes made by devs i hired cuz its job for them too and they just looked to resolve todays infront issue and i will be the one to divert my resources to fix those issues when it becomes an issue down the road..
Idk why but i really want to touch the glass while it’s soft (⊙ᗜ⊙)
Edit: my hands will burn
I also have a same thought. X0
Clearly you're a BBQ lover, because you really seem to like the smell of charred flesh. Either that or you were burned to death as a witch in a previous life.

Holy shit, those glasses are amazing. She is an incredible skilled glass artist.
Really...???
Amazing...???
Incredible...???
She's just okay. Her work isn't groundbreaking or stellar. It's nice enough.
@@ThePayola123 people have their own opinion. let's just keep it that way.
Imagine being so badass that you make your own home decors..
Bro that glass in the beginning looks amazing...
Watch the video cause the glass in the beginning is shown throughout the video D:
I love content like this. It's fascinating. The art is beautiful.
Hope she one day will create perfect vase so she can finally return to homeland 😔🙏🙏🙏
She seems to be happy with the Italian life. Japanese women artists generally find more success outside the country.
She moved to Italy and looked a vase at her home there.
Du bist lustig😂😂😂😂
Do you have a problem with her living in Europe?
@@khwistal the joke flew right over your head and shattered. Lol
Japanese people's episodes are the best! They are so talented but very humble and lovely.
I saw a great big story ad.
On a great big story video.
Beautiful masterpieces 😍 Love all the designs too 👍🏻
I don't know if I've ever seen anything so simple but so profoundly beautiful. It touches me. I can't explain why, but it touches me.
as far as i can see this woman isnt doing anything but talking, other people made all the work she just stands there and gets all the credits
If you go to most modern art museums the artist doesn't "make" the art. They design and direct its construction. Jeff Koons is a pretty famous example.
GOD BLESS RITSUE MISHIMA AND HER FAMILY FOR ALL ETERNITY AND INFINITY FOR HER EXTREMELY,IMMENSE HARDWORK,PERSEVERANCE AND SACRIFICES.
The epitome of, I can't find anything to suit my taste, I have to make it myself.

Alright that is so satisfying. 0:04
I've been to Murano and would really recommend- there are much less people there than on "mainland" Venice, its just so tranquil.
I got a great big story ad again
Beautiful
I use drinking glass, especially the thrifted ones, as an alternative for a vase because of the rarity of clear vases here in our country 😁
I thought she was in Japan, but apparently in Italy
I got a great big story ad on this
What does she mean by Japan being a "moon culture"? Japanese is the land of the rising sun. Is she referring to お月見, moon viewing? Is moon culture referring to the traditional lunar calendar from China? She refers to it like an aesthetic outlook.
I was thinking the same thing! It is rare to hear someone said Japan as a country of the moon.
Are you japanese?

Why did I get a gbt ad in a gbt video?
It'd be great if you put more time for shots of each piece, I cannot read the subtitles and pay attention to the shot of each piece at the same time.
Oh I have some of this!
there is a Netflix series about glass blowing, check it out.

Is it good for bongs tho?
yes sir ok nice.
Where is the bowl
lmao i got an ad about great big story
edit : I got another great big story at the end of the video
so she basically commissions the works? that doesn't make her a glass blower, if this story is accurate shes at least an assistant and at most an involved patron. this seems disrespectful to the craftsmen shes directing. rather disappointed in this story.
lol no one said she was a glass blower but a glass artist instead. She designs the glass then the craftsmen create it with her guidance. You're just disappointed because you didn't understand 😂😂
Your logic is like saying the Architect should be the one building the house on his/her own. If the architect doesn't build then he/she shouldn't be called an architect 😂😂 Obviously it's the carpenters who do the work.
Do you also expect the Fashion Designers to sew the dresses themselves?
@@user-bk4mf5sy8x you're right, she never said she was a glass blower. However, I still feel like the the actual artisans deserve more credit.
@@user-bk4mf5sy8x yes, you are right again about the architect analogy, but fashion designers are called just that, designers. I'm pretty sure they do at least some of the work though. If only at the first phase of career or prototyping.
@@user-bk4mf5sy8x as an architect I don't feel too good about the comparison. A building is much more complex and obviously the sheer size makes it impossible to build alone, though I get what you mean, I think it's not correct to call her an artist, she is a designer.
All I can think of is that old smith guy from Dr. Stone
Bet she could make some sick utensils for partaking in the devils lettuce
She doesn't even blow the glass. Where are the real glass artist?
She doesn’t even actually make the glass
She's the director of a glass movie
and architects dont actually make buildings
@@estoniass good point
ESC KeS tried to think of a more succinct analogy but I think that’s perfect.
If you go to most modern art museums the artist doesn't "make" the art. They design and direct its construction. Jeff Koons is a pretty famous example.
I got your channel ad on yout video
Bruh
I got an great big story add on a big great story vid this one
She makes glass better than me breaking glass
Not sure what being Japanese has to do with creating glass art when she lives in Venice
I think it's about the fact that her inspiration comes from Japanese culture more so than her being Japanese
In murano near Venice there are this artist of the glass... Go check some video... the real master of glass are in Venice...
If she actually made it herself then it would be something worth talking about.
Fashion designers don't sew the dresses themselves but they're considered artists. Obviously you don't need to be the one blowing the glass to be considered a glass artist. Can't believe so many dumb people don't understand a simple concept 😅
Then she should call herself a glass designer 😅
dr stone led me here 🥵
Ah yes, enslaved tranparency .
Designer, ok. But artist? She doesn’t even create the glass herself.
Right. I was confused when i saw her team make it
I am too dumb to understand this.
Orlina
Who just want to touch the hot glass?
Who would win?
An exquisite glass vase
Or
greasy hands
Well it’s too bad she won’t be able to make me a bong! Weed is highly illegal in Japan. How ironic.
She speaks like a Japanese
Early
I don't know WHY they call her a glass artist. She sketches them but she does not manually create the physical glass art, thus, NOT a glass artist. Lame!
If you go to most modern art museums the artist doesn't "make" the art. They design and direct its construction. Jeff Koons is a pretty famous example.
Me: I want to be an artist
Mom: What kind of artist?
Ritsue Mishima: Why not, a Glass Artist 😊
