Such a lovely project! Thank you. My dog Bob goes to work with me too. He is the " intelligent" conversation I engage in during the day.

Thanks a lot for this video and the pattern! I've just made the needle case and it went without a hitch. Next one will get a snap closure, this time I added some leather lace at the end.

This project was so much more fun than I thought it would be, and a bit more challenging than I thought at first. It turned out beautiful. It's for my daughter for Christmas. She is into embroidery . Also, in all my years working with leather, I had never heard of an edger :(. When I saw you use it, I had to run out and buy one (Amazon). It is an amazing tool. Really gives a professional touch. I wanted to display my finished product, but can't figure out how to so this. Thanks so much for this video. My daughter is really going to like her needle case.

Loooooooove this. Perfect beginner/stitching practice for me and something functional when completed. Yay. Thank you! And biiig thank you for including the free pattern for us.
    Question:
How do we determine thread & needle size, appropriate to the leather weight/size we are using for a project?
Is there a general rule? or range? for needle sizes/thread sizes/leather weight/size?
I suppose thonging chisel or pricking iron size will also play a role?
I just received a sample card of thread and there are about a zillion sizes to choose from. Ok, slight exaggeration but there are a lot!
If you could shed some light on this topic it would be most helpful!
Many thanks for your vids. So informative and a joy to watch.
P.S. Your saddle stitch tutorial is the best on the internet hands down!!!!!!

Hey Brenda, glad to hear you like the video 👍 for me, the thread weight is based on stitch mark size so for stitching in 7 stitches per inch I use no 2 saddlers harness needles and threads that are around 0.6-0.8mm so this could be tkt8 machine thread or 3/18 and 4/18 linen thread. Hope that makes sense..... I am planning on doing a video on it soon 👍

The ruler she is using is a drafting scale. They come in various markings for engineering/architecture, in plastic or metal. The downside is they can easily slide if any lateral pressure is put on them by the knife. I use them more for marking than cutting. For cutting, I use cork-backed aluminum or steel rules.

This is lovely 💕. I think I want to make one for myself. Thanks 🙏🏼. One question 👆🏼where can I find a ruler/straight edge like the one you used while cutting? Seems a good choice rather than a flat ruler to keep knives/ sharp edges from cutting my fingers 🖖🏼

J.H.Leather , Thanks, I just ordered one. Too bad they don’t sell those in the states. I also wished they let you put pix in the comments. I made the needle case today. I actually really needed one. It’s not as nice as yours, but it only took about 90 minutes. I made it out of pretty light goatskin. Since the goatskin stretches a bit and won’t hold the needles taught, I put a couple of slits in the flap and can close the case with a little leather thong. Thanks again.
