Never a truer word said “if budgets allow then swap out all the old rusty metal for new panels.” Especially if you want to future-proof your classic Mini for years to come. 👍
In the long and distance past when i was a very young man i didn't have the money to buy panels so I patched what I could but they always come back to haunt me. now i‘m older and richer I probably over restore them 🤣😉Cheers Dave
@@ClassicCarCave yep I hear you. I’ve just got a whole heritage front end back on my Mini Thirty and ended up with more panels. Only original bits now are the floors as they are great condition, the roof and the boot lid. Cost a pretty penny but doing it right should make it last and I can enjoy it.
The only thing I would add is some of the new panels still need to be fettled which considering we have high tech equipment to make them perfect it does make you wonder how much better the old panels were with old tech 🤔 I bet the new front end looks the nuts 😉 Cheers Dave
@@ClassicCarCave yes the front end is awesome. That said my car is currently almost black rather than burgundy with all new bits replaced. Can’t wait for the respray which I’m getting done next week, fingers crossed.
The more I see of this repair, the more I realise how complex and sophisticated the mini structure is. Great stuff as usual.
Thanks that's much appreciated. They might look like they were just thrown together but each part is integral to every other panel it touches.
Hi Dave . Your not going to die of boredom with this little tinker ! Great progress !
John, That's true theres a lot wrong with it! 🤔 Cheers Dave
Coming on a treat. Always better to cut away the rust and replace with fresh new steel.
Martyn, Thanks buddy, Ive learn from the past that if you keep the car for long enough it will bite you in the arse doing it cheaply. Cheers Dave
