I can’t believe you’re leaving that snow plow in the field like that. It was garaged all those years and babied. Now you just leave it in a rat and mice infected field to rot along with all your other failures. You really should be ashamed of yourself. If I was that guy and saw your videos I’d actually go and retrieve it. Your shouldn’t be allowed to possess it

Pro tip for grip replacement: Aqua Net aerosol hair spray. It lubes the grip just enough to easily slide on, and once it dries it basically acts like a glue to keep the grip in place. Been doing this for years.

The manifold split and broken clutch lever triggered mine. I would have replaced them with new before I even rode it. Also would have dumped that oil of unknown origin and weight for something high end and new. The other damage from being laid down a bunch of times would have to be fixed for me as well. Junky plastic, dented exhaust etc etc etc.
This could be a very very nice older used bike if it was fixed up right a little bit first. All the way fixed up this bike would be a $2,800 - $3,500 ballpark bike any day of the week.

I have this exact bike i bought in boxes. Took it home and the only thing missing when I put it all back together was the output shaft bearing. I rebuilt the entire motor, put a Lectron carb on it, 125 springs in the front an rear (im only 145 lbs and ride goat trails) Its been the best woods bike I've ever owned. I live in the PNW so its always steep, wet, rutted, bolders and root wads. You can idle it all day but wick the throttle anytime you want and it will lite like a rocket and never foul a plug.

I like your videos and your skills, but mostly Vinny. However when I see you shake a carb float, that is a nitrophyl type I kind of cringe, that style float is made of a solid plastic material block, and you will never feel any liquid sloshing around inside. The only way to confirm a bad float of this type would be to have a weight spec and use a gram scale. Without specs, you could take a float that was soaking in fuel, weigh it, let it sit for several days, and reweigh it. Tell shop manager Vinny I said Hey. Keep up the good work Joe!

Something that is kinda funny that we do in this country when starting a bike with a choke circuit is that we crack the throttle when kicking a bike. Cracking the throttle deletes the choke circuit because it works off of suction. European guys will kick a bike three or four time really slow and leave the throttle closed so the choke circuit can suck fuel up to the cylinder, Then they kick it like got a set and crack the throttle. Once I learned this I found myself having an easier time with starts and not having to kick the crap out of something to get it started.

    • @Natedoc808
      @Natedoc808 2 дні тому

You’re describing exactly how I was taught to start a cold bike as a kid. I never understood everyone goosing the throttle while kicking the bike. I got a 2000 YZ426F several years back for a song because the guy couldn’t start it. He didn’t understand the compression release and would give it gas trying to start it! lol. We agreed on a dirt cheap price, and he damn near died when I fired it second kick and road it onto the trailer.

Nice find Joe.. for what you paid even if you have to do a top end, heck even if you had to split the case, you're still up because they just DON'T make bikes like they used to, and that's a pretty sweet example.. Other than the dented exhaust pipe, but man they ALL get laid down sooner or later..

Well, I just don't get why someone would own a play hard bike like that when they are unable to diagnose something as simple as a dirty carb. I guess it gives someone like you the opportunity to buy a great bike for cheap.

That bike was owned by a dumb kid, just look at all the broken and stripped bolts 😂

I have a 2018 yz250. When I first got it I was fouling plugs a lot because the guy who owned it before me was running it a bit richer for racing. Since then I put an iridium plug in and haven't had to change it since. The plug has been in for months now. Got 2 spares. The Yz motor is a rocket ship. I should have probably bought the 125 but I think it's finally starting to make me a better rider..

We do, but shop rates are crazy spendy so if you have these toys it's better to diy especially for basic things if you can and maintain your stuff so it doesn't need a 'professional'.

You should get a nice tub for cleaning the parts with varsol it cleans really good i use to use that in a garage when i was a kid cleaning my carbs and other parts works wonders when you like to get your hands on parts instead of using ultrasonic cleaner

OMG YOU DIDN"T JUST WATERBLAST THE FRONT OF THE RADIATOR... TELL ME THAT WAS A CAMERA TRICK AT 48:01 WHEN YOU AIMED BACK INTO THE FRAGILE PAPER THIN CORE FINS!
Epoxy on rubber.... Epoxy sets like hard plastic, then peals off soft things like rubber. Better off using brake clean to get rid of all impurities then using super glue.. or perhaps "rubber Cement"? like a bicycle repair kit... (Of course if they used silicone content in the boot then maybe back to superglue...
U can also use RTV but the silicone will contaminate the rubber for anything else. My personal pref in Silicone is Selleys 'Gutter and roof' That stuff survived the exhaust manifold on my old IT200s when the Hi temp paint around it long burned off). (BTW I Have both a 97 and 99 2poke YZ250 and the 99 is bulletproof... well internally... It couldn't be responsible for the mess I made of the outside.
Personally I prefer to set chain tension with the swingarm aligned with the 2 sprockets (so while I'm sitting on it).
I made a 250gram flywheel weight that made it a little less touchy and smoother with the throttle wide open on the fields. (I'm not a supercrosser so why have a twitchy all or nothing throttle.
