I did the first method, and it located the corrupted file that was causing the problem. It said corruption was found while examining files in directory, directories and volume bitmap. It then said windows is verifying file allocation, then it says 0% completed and has been doing nothing for 5 mins. Is it normal for it to take ages? Thanks
Dang I really thought I would have to buy a new one but formatting it actually worked. So thank you. It’s just gonna take a long time to reinstall all of my games
Question, my external hard drive which has about 100gb of data on it is saying about the perimeter issue and says to format the hard drive and that there are 0gb on it that’s it’s empty. But when I did the chkdsk thing, it’s found the corrupt file (which shows it’s not really empty), but how do I get my hard drive back working properly? It’s now sayings it’s 100% completed but hasn’t moved, nothings happening. Is it supposed to do something or do I just click it off and check the hard drive?
Hi there, thank you for your question! If your external hard drive shows a perimeter error, indicates 0GB of data, and asks to be formatted, it likely has file system corruption. Since CHKDSK found a corrupt file and completed at 100% but isn’t progressing further, wait a bit longer to ensure it's not finalizing repairs. If it’s stuck, safely close CHKDSK and reconnect the drive to check its status. If the drive remains inaccessible, rerun CHKDSK with the command chkdsk X: /f /r /x (replace X: with your drive letter) to attempt repairs. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, use data recovery software like Recoverit to recover your files to another location. After recovery, format the drive through Disk Management to restore functionality.
@@au.venturesofficial From what i remember its a 5 step process. Definitely wait until it's 100 percent and goes through all the processes. You'll have to be patient. It took a long time for me, like almost a day or more. Once it finished there was a message inside the cmd prompt window saying bad sectors were fixed. Then i closed cmd prompt, and my files were accessible again on hard drive Give it a try.
Does it shows the estimate time when you run it on your ex HDD? I'm currently running it and it says "Corrupt master file table. Windows will attempt to recover master file table from disk" only.

I have a question, the disk I'm trying to recover is my mother's and it has 60,000 photos, while I made a scam to test with your program, the titles were all with zeros and I just wanted to know if all the photos are not mixed up in a single folder , because there are 50 separate folders of moments from each album and it would be uncomfortable to have it all mixed up. As the test was taking more than 10 hours I canceled because I didn't have time and now I'm going to test it. Now I have a question, the 2 disks that I am about to recover worked 100%, only "users" was protected and I could even see all the installed programs but I turned off the disk, did the same with my old one and it was the same thing, when I turned on the device to read disks the next day it said “The Parameter is Incorrect” and then the option to format appeared, and as far as I know I never had problems with the disk, it only stuck once inside and I pulled it out and it was working 100% again. It has no scratches and is brand new, but I think Windows doesn't want to bother reading the disk again like it did the day before and just wants to complicate things... For example if you put any disk to see the items and then turn it off normally, the next day you will have problems that you can't read again 😵 What did I do wrong? Or is it the reader himself who makes this happen? Or is it because I put 2 disks in the PC on the same day and they had the same title (F:) that it bugged...

I have a Seagate hard drive, it blinks yellow light but does not show up on the computer. Will that crash my data or could this be a USB cable issue? thanks in advance
What if the drive appears and then disappears. I've gotten that same error message, but also had times when either the drive wouldn't appear at all, or would appear briefly before vanishing.
Hi there, If your external hard disk is not showing up in disk management, it's possible that there is an issue with the connection between the hard disk and your computer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue: Check the cable and connections. Check if the hard disk is spinning up. Check if the hard disk is recognized on another computer. Check the power supply. Try data recovery software. Download Recoverit here: bit.ly/3ZoowNK If none of these steps work, it's possible that the hard disk has failed and may need to be replaced.
@@RecoveritDataRecoverySoftware it's definitely powering on and spinning, and I've also tried connecting to it with multiple computers. I'm going to try swapping out the cable. I think that's the next logical step. Thanks!
Hi there, thank you for your question! You can type exit and press Enter. This will close the window immediately. You can press Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Pause/Break. This will interrupt the current command and ask you if you want to terminate the batch job. Type Y and press Enter to confirm, or N to continue the command. I would recommend only doing this if it has finished.
I have a similar issue w/ an external hard drive and want to purchase the product. The video title says "...Hard Drive in Windows 10/8/7". I have Windows 11. Does Wondershare Recoverit work on windows 11? Thank you
What if the External Hard Drive won't show up on the list to click to scan? It shows up on the PC list but can't open to view files; hence, trying this software with hopes that it does something magical to gain access, but the software won't even recognize the external drive in order to to scan. After it attempts to list the devices to no luck for the external hard drive, if I unplug the usb, I see a very quick glimpse of the drive but then disappears. Thoughts?
Hi there, thank you for your question! Have you tried plugging the external hard drive into another computer to see if it works? Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter it might be helpful in fixing the problem of external hard drive not being detected. Check if the external hard drive shows up in the Disk Management window by pressing Win + X and selecting Disk Management. If none of these help and you have tried all the steps in the video I'd recommend stop using the device and take it to a professional if the data on the external drive is important otherwise you can try formatting it and see if that helps(this will remove all data from the drive).
@@RecoveritDataRecoverySoftware Good Morning, yes, I've tried all the recommended. Update: I noticed in the software that it stated that if the drive does not show up, then attempt to open Disk Management and scan through it using the software. I couldn't find a way to scan via Disk Management using the software; however, all of a sudden, the drive popped up in Recoverit software while I had both open... I quickly clicked the scan and it appeared to lock up at 1% but after just leaving it be for an hour, I came back and it was at 30% which is where is stayed... I went ahead and tried the recover function which queued me to pay the $70 fee which I did. I was able to save most of the files to another drive to include the important Christmas videos. This morning, I went to do remaining and the software lost connection and now unable to get the software to see the drive again. The hard drive is now making clicking noise which now could be a hardware failure. I'm pleased that I was able to get most of the video files especially the important ones done first. Now I'm sending this Toshiba 4TB Canvio back under warranty for replacement.
I'm at a loss. I get the parameter warning, but File Explorer lags out and eventually the whole thing, including the Start bar, disappears. CHKDSK, even when running as administrator, won't let me type anything. Recoverit won't load either. Of course, when I pull the cord for the hard drive out, I can run CHKDSK, computer works fine, and I can use Recoverit to scan my C drive. But I need the external hard drive (D drive) scanned, and I can't run any of these programs with the drive plugged in. It's slowing down my laptop and makes the screen black (although if I have a browser window open I can still use the Internet). I even reformatted my PC to factory and it's the same issues. I don't know how to recover my drive data now.
Hi there, thank you for your question! You can try is to boot your computer from a USB drive or CD/DVD with a recovery tool installed. This will allow you to scan and recover data from your external hard drive without having to boot into Windows. You can create a bootable USB drive or CD/DVD using a tool like Rufus. If the data is important I would recommend taking it to a professional for further assistance.

I have this problem with a new ssd, it worked fine 1 month ago. Now i wanted to use it to install a game on and it doesn't show up anymore. Even when i try with windows cd its doesn't show there so no idea how to format it.
I'm about 25% through doing a chkdsk and I'm pretty annoyed about it honestly. I got a top tier external HD to protect my data NOT have it potentially fail like this. I've never had a HD fail on me inside a laptop or desktop in 20 years. I treat this thing like royalty and it just disides it's not going to play ball one day? Is this an issue with larger sized external drives in general? If so what is a good alternative to them because I'm not happy risking my data like this.
The chkdsk finally finished after 8 hours and was successful thanks for the help :) I have no idea what I could have done differently. I safely eject the drive everytime and it's supposed to be a shockproof casing.
Hi there, Thank you for your question. If the light on the hard drive is still flashing, it generally means that the hard drive is still in use and processing the chkdsk command. It's possible that the chkdsk process is taking longer than usual because of the size of the hard drive, but you should be patient and let the process complete. It's also important to note that if chkdsk gets stuck at a particular percentage for an extended period of time, it could indicate a problem with the hard drive. In this case, you should consider backing up your data and seeking professional help to diagnose and fix the issue.
Hi there, thank you for your question! It depends on the size and other factors 8TB is a large drive so it can take very long I wouldn't recommend turning your computer, It can take several hours sometimes days.
I used the chkdsk /f e: its been 2.81 days and it just started stage 2 the ETA IS 143 hours and for stage 1 it always says file record segment is unreadable and stage 2 it says deleting orphan file record segment. Is this normal
Recoverit is asking me to format the drive, if I format it there is a chance to recover the files after with this tool or is it not possible after is formated?

Hi can you help please I am running a chkdsk on my external hard drive and it seems to have stuck at 87% It has been like this for one hour. How long is long enough and is it safe to exit the chkdsk process. If so how do I do that?
Hi there, thank you for your question! When running a chkdsk command on an external hard drive, it's not uncommon for it to take a while and appear stuck at a specific percentage. Patience is key, as the process can take several hours depending on the drive's size and condition. Monitor disk activity for intermittent signs of progress. If you believe it's truly stuck, you can try pressing "Ctrl + C" to interrupt and exit chkdsk, but be aware of the potential risk of data corruption. If you decide to exit, remember to safely eject the drive before disconnecting it. If you're concerned about the drive's health or data integrity, consider seeking professional data recovery services or consulting a computer technician for further assistance.

Me too! Tried method 1 and 2 not working , I am so afraid if I format the file I will lose all data
I tried step number one but it said “The type of the file system is RAW. CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.
The second one said when I tried to put it in “you must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the arc uility.”
The third one when I right click on the drive mu computer crashes please help I really need it

I did the first method, and it located the corrupted file that was causing the problem. It said corruption was found while examining files in directory, directories and volume bitmap. It then said windows is verifying file allocation, then it says 0% completed and has been doing nothing for 5 mins. Is it normal for it to take ages? Thanks

For example if you put any disk to see the items and then turn it off normally, the next day you will have problems that you can't read again 😵
What did I do wrong? Or is it the reader himself who makes this happen?
Or is it because I put 2 disks in the PC on the same day and they had the same title (F:) that it bugged...
Hello, I would like to know, how do you know the Command Prompt has finish fixing the process?

Still undergoing the chksdk on my 1 TB hard drive. It's been almost 8 hours, 10 % complete and I'm getting a lot of "File Record segment [region] is unreadable." Will it still be worth continuing to run chkdsk or should I attempt to clone the drive?

Sfc must be tried before chkdsk because it is faster and more likely to work without errors

What if the drive appears and then disappears. I've gotten that same error message, but also had times when either the drive wouldn't appear at all, or would appear briefly before vanishing.
Hi there,
If your external hard disk is not showing up in disk management, it's possible that there is an issue with the connection between the hard disk and your computer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
Check the cable and connections.
Check if the hard disk is spinning up.
Check if the hard disk is recognized on another computer.
Check the power supply.
Try data recovery software. Download Recoverit here: bit.ly/3ZoowNK
If none of these steps work, it's possible that the hard disk has failed and may need to be replaced.
@@RecoveritDataRecoverySoftware it's definitely powering on and spinning, and I've also tried connecting to it with multiple computers. I'm going to try swapping out the cable. I think that's the next logical step. Thanks!

How do you get out of command prompt or do have to wait for it to finish. What to type at end

Hi there, thank you for your question! You can try is to boot your computer from a USB drive or CD/DVD with a recovery tool installed. I've never had a HD fail on me inside a laptop or desktop in 20 years. I treat this thing like royalty and it just disides it's not going to play ball one day? Is this an issue with larger sized external drives in general? If so what is a good alternative to them because I'm not happy risking my data like this.

does it mean it's complete?
I tried doing the chkdsk but it looks like its stuck at a 49% its a 2tb hard drive but the light is still flashing does that mean it's still working?
Hi there,
Thank you for your question.
