  • This small scale wind turbine can produce up to 15kwh per day in the right conditions. It is quiet small and it's modern design looks great on the front of the house. It is a simple installation process and takes around 4 hours to complete.

      Why not attach to a building? If youre thinking lightning youre screwed regardless because of the building electrical connection, though the risk can be mitigated.

    • @jackfenn7524
      @jackfenn7524 5 років тому +1

      Why not? Who says?" It's your house, right? The reason wind generators are prohibited from being mounted on your house, is that such a scheme would WORK too well! If you don't need a tall, expensive mast, you save money. If you make your own canvas sails, you save money, and gain torque. The object of regulations like these is to make wind generators expensive and unprofitable!

      @@Pradeepkarti I can understand the diameter affecting output, but not how skinny they are or how few blades. Seems like a lot of uncaptured air is moving past the large expanse of space between the narrow blades. Think of the sail dimensions kn a sail boat. Big fully deployed sails equal more power and speed. Take some sail area in and the power and thus speed drops.

    Mr. Vann, you are exactly right! So-called "modern" wind turbines can never pay for themselves, because they do not have enough sail area to produce torque! And torque is as necessary to producing electricity in wind generation, as it is in any other method of producing electricity! These "wind turbines" are designed to fail! Real, profitable Dutch windmill electrical generators would make a fortune for the owners, and they would cost about 90 per cent less to build. And best of all, no Federal subsidies would be needed.

    6 kWh more than you generate with solar panels is a lot by any measure. average daily electricity consumption should be 2-4kWh. Remember, the cheaper the grapes, the sweeter the wine, and the "do-it-yourself" type wind turbines will cost less, and make more money.

    WRONG on so many levels. size of the blades, height and site for installation. If your town has good grid infrastructure, than instead of 1000 homes each having their own miniturbies - A larger turbine somewhere off the town would just make more sense.. Wind power scales pretty dramatucally wuth size of blade and the laminar wind .

    • @joebradner126
      @joebradner126 6 років тому +1

      Wrong. The unit is designed well and operates with almost no sound so the blades are correct for the unit, The height and site for the install is exactly what that particular application requires. They are running well right where they are. You probably don't want to have to do any work yourself or pay any money. You sound like you want the government to do it and pay for it for you. The problem with that is twofold; the government is notoriously wasteful of our money and then that would still leave them in complete control of your power generation. The beauty of spreading out the where the generation happens eliminates the risk of everyone losing out because of one failure and puts control into the hands of the individual. Freedom and Independence.

    • @debendragurung3033
      @debendragurung3033 6 років тому

      Free from government control doesnt imply spending unneccasrily more. Where it benefits to have a single plant, that should be considered first. Home Solar panels are good as it doesnt scale down with size, The power per unit area is pretty much the same. And please dont quote me on with 'But the sun dont shine all day'. But with turbine, there are two factors - the site for laminar wind flow and the surface area of blade span. Especially the second factor, where it scales down pretty dramatically with size. @5,000 kwh/home annual consumption soon to increase to 13 - 15 k kwh when your cars are electric, thats more than 32 kwh /day we will always need grid. So its wise at first to invest in Larger turbines. Anyway if you have surplus fund go for it..

    • @joebradner126
      @joebradner126 6 років тому

      Your first sentence does not even make sense unless you are agreeing with me. I said what we all know. Governments waste and overspend our money. Your sentence says the reverse. Your second sentence disregards the gov incompetence and wastefulness and gives up your autonomy and that should not be considered first. It also forces everyone to be in the same boat so to speak. People in the area who don't want to pay for the large turbine through their taxes have no choice but to pay up and then continue paying the gov for their power. I have no power bill for my home and soon I will have no gas expense to drive. I live in Canada in a completely off grid home. I don't need the grid at all. I have all my power needs including cooking and air conditioning and hot water from solar. I have a 7500 watt solar array and bring in 30kw in 4 hours midday and another 15 kw in the 2 hours before and after peak time. What is needed is to have an alternative source for "when the sun don't shine". To be able to pack my batteries full when it is overcast or raining or snowing or at night is the completion of reducing my carbon footprint to zero.

    • @joebradner126
      @joebradner126 6 років тому +1

      I must say though that you are right in that the larger turbines have a greater efficiency than the smaller units. My objection is solely based on it being better to take care of your self than having the gov take care of you. So that in my humble opinion; even though you lose a degree of efficiency with your own smaller unit , what you gain in autonomy and control is more than worth it.

    • @debendragurung3033
      @debendragurung3033 6 років тому +1

      Your Solar generation is very impressive. Here in the UK, I use 9 kwh /day. But we do use the supply gas of nearly 1300 cubic meter/ year for heating.. We are planning a 3 kwh solar panel system, thats the most our roof can adjust. In UK, government does a feed in grid installation, where u can feed in to the main if excess production at peak hours , and get it back at night during offpeak hours. Though the panels dont cover up everything (perhaps 2/3 at worst to 3/4 at best) annual electricity- but itll pay itself for in about 10 years...

      +Cat Scratch Nope and NOPE, I am neither a dealer or any of what you have said. If you were not so STUPID you would know your statement makes no sense. If I were a dealer I would simply agree with your under price and scam ppl, I SAID YOU ARE WRONG, to which you didn't disagree, you just resorted to insults after having your tiny feelings (we all know what else you have that is tiny) hurt!!!

    "The small turbine we're looking at is from Swan Energy. They've jointly developed it." Huh? Jointly means with another company. Which other company?

    I have a solar panel array and a 600 watt turbine. It's a piece of crap mounted on a 40 foot tower. It's two years old and sounds like a squicky bed during sex. Guess it needs some lube. I'm going to take it down, pack bearings with grease and mount on a higher tower

    *Pure nonsense! All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity! And only at very high costs!*
    Because there is hardly any wind close to the ground. It is also extremely gusty, which usually shortens the service life.
    Only if you need to be self-sufficient from the power grid, you should install the largest possible wind turbine on a high tower for the winter.
    *With solar panels, on the other hand, you can reliably generate green electricity for 25 years at approx. 3-10 cent/kWh!*
