I had gone back to watch your earlier videos and realized that the first video you shared was you and your father record hunting! Very bittersweet indeed. :( Bless you and how wonderful that your dad left you such a legacy, you're a good son!
You're still a young family man Alex and it saddens me that you didn't get to have your Dad in your life awhile longer. May his records and the fond memories associated with them bring you a sense of his presence.
I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I get so emotional when you put clips of your dad in videos. I lost my dad when I was 23. Dad's are one of those special things that can't be replaced. Mom's can't be replaced either, but we both still have ours. I can only imagine how difficult this was for you. I still have some of my dad's stuff that some may would love to collect, others only I have any connection to.
Your video brought back memories of my father’s passing 2 years ago. He was a well-known voice in the music industry and had been an avid collector since he was a kid. I believe at one time he had 30,000 items (78s, 33s, 45s and CDs)! It was a lot of work going through, so I know your struggle. Music has always been an important part of my upbringing, and I cherish so many of those memories, it brings me closer to him.
My mother was the record collector in our family. When I was about 13 years old, my uncle bought me my first LP for my birthday. It was the Mammas and the Pappas "California Dreaming". That started off my collection of records, which grew and grew and grew until about the 1980's when vinyl records were no longer sold in South Africa because the CD was the new in thing. I was mesmerised when you were going through your Dad's records, especially the 45's. It must have been heartbreaking for you to have to sell your Dad's precious collection, but there always comes a time in life when difficult choices must be made.
What a cool collection of music and comedy recordings. I could lose myself listening to it. Stephen sure has grown since that clip with your dad. I love it that you have the Ghostbusters' Sta-Puft marshmallow man on your ambulance key chain.
Oh the music!!! Born in 64 I was brought up on a lot of these, my dad was only 18 and loved music, which he passed on to me 😍 While I was away at school he sold off a load of LPs to his students and when I returned home I was furious, as some were mine... Turned out he sold them to his students (he was a cool teacher and often had the latest albums he would tape on request lol). The boy who bought most of them became my husband, so I got my records back!!! 🤣
A very nice coworker of my husband repaired my mom’s old stereo record player from the early 60’s. I ordered a number of records used and new (reissued) to add to my small collection. Just like listening to vinyl now and again. Brings back fond memories.
Alex, I'm so glad that you still have some of your fathers collection of albums. He has some really good titles from what I've seen. I thought of my dad when I saw your video. My dad was a talented local drummer and loved music of many different types. He had decent album collection (not as big as your dads') and I remember looking through his albums when I was a kid. Sadly he passed away in 1996 and his record collection was destroyed. So that is why I'm happy that you have some of your dads albums
I know this must be bittersweet for you. Yet it is good that you will find a good home for some of these, keep some of these, and maybe Heather will want some to gain insight into her dad too. It is all good as you incorporate some into your life, and move some on to new good homes. Lots of the titles were part of my teenage time, brought back memories. I loved the video.
Wow Alex 😍 Your Daddy's collection is so amazing!! Such a treasure of rarities too!! I was drooling 😂. I hope you let Heather pick some out for keep sakes ❤️ There was a story on the news here in Dallas, TX over the weekend how albums are going to out cell CD'S this year & how old school record stores are popping up every where😍 I love all of that music in your Daddy's collection.
Thank you for taking me down memory lane. I had many of these albums until they were stolen in the early 60s. I loved in a purple shellacked house at the time. In northern Ohio.
What an amazing collection of records! I'm a bit jealous, in the sense that I want to kick back and listen to all my favorites and a few new to me. So much fun in those albums!
Awww, how great. Greetings from Calgary 😀 What a fabulous walk back through memory lane for you I bet eh?. Sure wish I lived in Edmonton I'd be in your store every weekend. Happy New Years to you and your family...wishing you all the best! 🎉🎊
I am a record collector and enjoy listening to my records everyday. I also enjoy the hunt of finding those special 'grails' that's on my 'wantlist'! When the time comes, my kids will inherit my collection and hopefully enjoy the wonderful experience of listening to music on vinyl.
Alex, Very wise-pace yourself. You don't need to do this all at once. And you're right, we can't keep everyTHING. However, we can keep the tunes and the memories that come with them. Lilghten your load but keep your heart full.
You going through your dad's records remind me of my Mom's records. She had a collection I think of 500,000. Rooms were taken up. 45s and albums of all sorts of music.
you got the turn table set up start playing these albums, someone will walk in and hear it and will want to buy it, you would be surprised how many times I have gone out to buy an album or cd when I walk into a small store and hear an old song I like and ask the owner who they are playing and what album. for you its right here for x amount.
Debbie Mcwaters EVPEACE I had the same thing happen to me. I lost 2/3 of my collection😩. I had the Beatles on capital and from there up to early punk, rock, all kinds. It seems the 1/3 that made it are all the meh ones!

But now I’m 80 and lucky if I can do one a year. All my good records are long gone. But still have many 78rpms and 45’s, that includes 300 Christmas 45’s

So sad when one person's passion doesn't transfer down the generations. I get how you are feeling Alex. I'm dreading being the recipient of my mother's spoon collection when the time comes. It will bring up a lot of memories and emotions, but they aren't something that I have the desire to keep and add to the collection. I think I'll probably photograph them in their display racks to hang on to the memories, and then let them go.
Oh man, not sure the tracking turntable was as popular like you think. I had one and trying to get it to hit the right track was a pain lol. The direct drives were the best. Man watching that brings back memories. I got rid of my huge collection in the 90’s, wish I had saved it. I had a ton of early punk and metal stuff. Watching this video made me want to get back into collecting, till you reminded me about having to move them.
The Moody Blues are my very favorite band then Led Zeppelin you have both. One day I would like to come up there to your store. Sounds like a great road trip for me. Take care and have a wonderful day
