  • With our Summer finally closing out I couldn't resist another trip out to Elstead in Surrey last week, taking an hours train journey out of London for a wander around the Mill at Elstead. And it's not just an attractive English lakeside pub. It actually has quite a bit of history going back as far as 1647 when the original building burned down only to be rebuilt the following year in 1648 when it was used as a corn mill until the late 18th century.
A consensus taken in 1851 revealed that over 100 people worked here. And the still existing bell tower on top of the building was used back then to ring out to alert the local workers to make their way into work. And during World War Two the building was used as a hospital for recovering soldiers.
This attractive lakeside pub is surrounded by The River Wey. And there's even a large hidden water wheel which explains the gushing waterflow from the small stone bridge at the front of the building.
