One of my favourite bond movies. Another little snippet for the movie mistake spotters amongst you. The Tiger Helicopter might have been real, but there was some funny business going on with the light helicopter which emerges from the roof of the wrecked train as Trevelyan and Onatopp make their escape. You distinctly hear a turbine engine spooling up - when the helicopter in question is in fact a Robinson R22 and has a humble four cylinder air cooled piston engine. Very loud when you're up close to one (its roughly 5.2L or 5.9L depending on age of aircraft) but nothing like the noise they dubbed over it.
This was a long awaited Bond movie that actually delivered. I will admit that it wasn't just the story and action that scored for me, the stand out performance and actress for me was Izabella Scorupco. I would say Golden Eye is my favorite Bond movie in the time frame between Roger Moore and before Daniel Craig.
It's the second best Bond for me. I grow up with For Your Eyes Only. Believe I started watching it at 5-6 years old. Was so good and had so many different biomes in the movie.
Yeah she was gorgeous. She actually still looks pretty good. Genetics are a crazy thing lol. But yeah this movie is better than anything Craig did. Craig unfortunately ruined the franchise. I mean the guy hated the franchise, so what do you expect?
Best Bond film, post Connery. Music, film (not digital), a mix of acoustic music and digital, and CGI special effects were still somewhat reasonable. Good acting, amazing actress Izabella Scorupco (the look of a feisty angel), good action, good story, good villain. Just amazing.
@robertjutton6079 The chase scene was amazing. The only 2 things that bothered me was, when the Africans threatened the bad guy and that ridiculously beautiful blonde with machetes, somehow inches next scene they were completely unfazed, and that beautiful Aston was wasted on a much too short car chase that only concentrated on the "record" number of flips.Great kiwi director, and that's coming from a absolutely and totally not biased kiwi guy.
I absolutely agree. I was 5 when Goldeneye came out. I saw it at the theater with my parents. I have to say it was probably the greatest theater experience of my childhood. I remember the audience going crazy over the chemical facility escape and the tank chase.
Yes, Dame Judi Dench made her first appearance as M in Goldeneye. Her last was Skyfall, even though the Craig 007 movies are a break from the previous Connery through Brosnan continuity.
Goldeneye is an undeniable classic, and it’s still a blast with a unique tone that the series hasn’t repeated. Brosnan was practically destined for the role of Bond, and his performance got better as his tenure went on.
@@RMJJ91 I agree. Goldeneye was definitely his best and, to me, it felt like the films declined in quality throughout his tenure, with Die Another Day being the worst. I don't think it's his fault the scripting and direction were increasingly poor though. He was a natural to play James Bond but I feel like Eon wasted his talent with increasingly ropey productions. But Goldeneye remains one of my favourite Bond films. And, of course, it also spawned one of my favourite video games of all time, so there's that too.
This is one of my favorites. Brosnan was the last "Real" Bond. The last one who remotely embodied the cinematic version. And yes, I have read the books and seen all of the Bond films in the theater.
I disagree… just look at the spectrum of Sean Connery and Roger Moore. To say last “real” bond comes across as a bit of a silly statement and sounds more like personal bias similar to “real” rock music. With this said, I am not a big fan of how some of the plot lines have circled around in newer ones…. Just looking at the
Simple fact is that Craig is the only one that has been an echo of the books, but he hasn’t been the character that so many know solely from the films. I think he’s more believable, but to each their own.
So many people turned down working on this movie?!? To me that is strange. Perspectives are of course different especially when you have enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life. But working on a Bond movie is ducking cool! I believe even if I were a billioneer I would have accepted a small part of a Bond movie. Man it's Bond!
It would be nice to mention the first candidate for the opening song which was the swedish group Ace of Base. The official history tells they suddenly decided it cuold harm their image in case of the film's flop and turned down the offer but the song was already written and lately was included in 2002 'Da Capo' album with words 'Golden Eye' changed to 'Juvenile'. The Ace of Base version sounds quite good and somewhat more 'traditional' but of course it's just my opinion.
Brosnan was the best bond - he had the best bond movies, the best bond girls, and the most relevant villains. The movies still hold up well today. I will take Brosnan and Dalton bonds over Connery and Moore any day of the week.
Interesting details! Thanks for sharing them. The entire cast was fantastic, including Robbie Coltrane, who was awesome (R.I.P.). Literally every member of the cast was exemplary in their role, and I also mean the extras or minor supporting roles. "Orumav" alone was fantastic, and so was the actor who portrayed "Jimbo" or whoever the American contact was, lol... I forget the character's name.
I'm Irish living in Dublin, absolutely gutted when Pierce lost out in '86. Fast forward and when the trailer for Goldeneye played in the biggest cinema screen in town the place went wild with pride, he and the entire cast were at the same cinema for the Irish Premiere ❤
Brosnan was on his way down the stairs to the press conference to announce him as the new Bond when his agent called and told him that the network last minute renewed Remington Steele for another season. 1994, Liam Neeson didnt want to be typecast. FFWd to 20 years later and hes made the same identical movie 15 times. Woo turned it down "Because he wanted to concetrate on is own projects at the time"? What a load of crap. His next movies were Broken Arrrow, Face Off, Blackjack and Mission Impossible 2.
Surprised you didn’t mention that because Pinewood wasn’t available Eon created an entirely new UK film studio for this film out of the old Rolls Royce factory at Leavesden complete with the St Petersburg street set outdoors on one of the old runways, subsequently used for many other productions including the Harry Potter series.
Now a bustling film studio as well as Harry Potter, Game Of Thrones and it's prequel, Mission Impossible, Star Wars, Barbie are among dozens of movies made there. Some of the russian vehicles from Goldeneye were dumped on the perimeter of the site at the end of filming and were visible for some years afterwards. The whole area has been expanded many times over now.
Fun fact here…The Goldeneye Estate is owned by Chris Blackwell, the owner/producer of Island Records and Blackwell Rum, famous for bringing reggae to the world with Bob Marley, Toots and the Maytals, et al. The same Island Records that was U2’s original label. Still one of the best Bond movies and undeniably the best video game, too!
During the bungee jump that begins the movie, the stuntman had trouble unholstering the prop gun, but he got it just before passing behind a rock that would have blocked the scene and require a re-shoot.
Huge Bond fan since Sean Connery. Brosnan should have been and was going to be Bond for Living Daylights but producers of Remington Steel heard the news, based on the hype, they opted to renew Remington Steel for a 5th season. Which ruined Brosnan becoming the next Bond after Moore retired from the role. Brosnan, hurt his hand before filming on GoldenEye began. The music used for the Tank scene was F*ckin Awesome!!
Joe Hewes has one of the Goldeneye tanks, and is in the process of restoring it. ua-cam.com/video/ju2kmRHCe-o/v-deo.htmlsi=5CsoKff5A79kCmd7 He has 3 videos at the moment in regards to that particular tank.
Dalton retcon. He lasted only two films because he never really was a good fit as Bond. It bugged me that he always looked like he was working up a sweat keeping up with the pace of the movie, instead of looking like he was in control. Just zero on-screen charisma. I knew about Brosnan almost getting the gig before Dalton, and although it was a fked up situation, it paid off later timing-wise with GoldenEye, what with movie-making technology and whatnot. Look at how Brosnan perfectly blended Connery's and Moore's Bonds into his own while modernizing the character. Pierce's natural mannerisms WAS already 100% Bond. He basically just played himself without having to act much. No one else on the planet at the time could've pulled off GoldenEye and its success as much as he did. It was almost like he had been genetically created in a lab to eventually play Bond.
the biggest missed opportunity was not having Hugh Grant as Bond and Liz Hurley as the Bond girl/femme fatale, but Liz DID play such a part in Austin Powers and Hugh did Mickey blue eyes, which isn't good but hinted at how he'd work as Bond, James Bond. After Goldeneye, they started doing Bungee jumps at the dam, called ( I think) Goldeneye bungee, or Golden jump
And lest we forget the fabulous video game based on this movie that is legendary.🤘🏻
@@Rockin_Ross He has a different particular set of skills.
I loved the game ❤

One of the best James Bond Movie of all time.
This was the Golden Year of my life. Everything was amazing and just great to be alive. It all went down hill after that...

Whew, Liam Neeson dodged a bullet. So glad he didn’t get type-cast.
GoldenEye is one of the best Bond films! Great action, unforgettable scenes, and Pierce Brosnan is perfect as 007.
To me, this is the best single Bond film of all time. Best villain, another double O, great action. Great supporting actors and soundtrack
@jbereijo For me, it's Casino Royale.
I agree. GOLDENEYE...🎉

Goldeneye had the only Bond Villain that you can empathize with . Sean Bean was flawless
One of my favourite Bond movies. Also the first to feature Judi Dench as M, IIRC...
I think goldeneye was the best of his movies. As much as I love Pierce, Die another day was pretty bad imo.

pity next movies in Brosnan era got worse. TND was good, TWINE decent but DAD one of the worst Bond movies ever
This was the first Bond movie I ever went to see at the cinema
At the time, I had simply thought that Remington Steele was just waiting for a Bond movie to come along.
I have seen all Bond movies but Golden Eye was really fantastic .❤
This is one of my favorites. Brosnan was the last "Real" Bond. The last one who remotely embodied the cinematic version. And yes, I have read the books and seen all of the Bond films in the theater.

The tank used in this film which is now at dezerland in Florida , was also used In the British sci fi comedy Red Dwarf

And how about actress Famke Janssen as the villainess Xenia Onatopp? Best one of all the Bond movies?
The giant dish is in Puerto Rico not Cuba, Arecibo, now abandoned.
sadly, damaged beyond repair.
It's in Cuba in the film which is why Wade is officially not involved
Connery and Brosnan: the two best Bonds.

I just got done watching this , again, a few days ago.
I saw this at the cinema, when I watched the vhs version I had noticed the music had changed for the tanks scene.

The game was ahead of it's time and great playing .
Good thing bosnan missed out the first time. We felt he looked to young in his first movie.. he's still great for the part
Dalton was the best Bond, but Brosnan did a great job as well.
"License to Kill" was reduced to a random Miami Vice tv show after Golden Eye came out.
Famke Jannsen and the Russian actress who played the lead were the best Bond girls and strongest female characters.
Izabella Scorupco is Polish.

last truly great bond movie
I really liked all the supporting actors in this film! 🤗
Minnie Driver "strangling a cat" was funny
@ Holy Crap her appearance surprised the heck out of me! And, yeah hilarious attempt to sing 😂😂😂
Can we have a universe where a John Woo directed 007 film exists please
Best movie ever
There were two Ferrari F355's used in "Goldeneye" - One with a black leather interior, and another with a tan leather interior.
Great film, made all the better by the then fantastic computer game on the N64.

The music used for the Tank scene was F*ckin Awesome!!
What was that synth tune on the end?
Thank god for John Woo turned down to direct. It would be an embarrassment!
Liam Neeson wouldn't have had the charisma to play Bond, though he's made a lot of solid action movies
Puerto Rico, not Cuba. The Radio Telescope, I believe.
The satellite dish plate location in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, not Cuba
The name is Rocky, double 0 Rocky.
I thought David Arnold wrote the music for this and the next few Bond movies?
He started with Tomorrow Never Dies
The z3 wAnt one at was TVR WITH A Z3 BODY SHELL
“Nen Valley Railway”? Nene…(Neen) 🙄
🎥
Honestly, this is the only Brosnan Bond I enjoy, the others went too deep into the Roger Moore mold
What type cast Liam what about the taken franchise

the wizzy cuts between clips make this unwatchable
