  • When I started riding I didn't know anyone who rode besides my Grandpa. For the first two years that I rode I didn't have any other riding friends. This is the story of how I met my first real riding friend.

I guess my story is, I have a good friend that had financial issues due to his wife's health. He had to sell his trike and still has not recovered. Last year he so wanted to ride again, but knew he could not afford anything. Soooo, I bought them a Vulcan 900 (trike conversion). Now we all ride a lot together.

Loved how you met your riding friend. I met mine by Internet Relay Chat in 1998. Jeff lived in the UK, I lived in Australia. In 2000 I moved to the UK, shipped my bike over, and started riding together. First trip was the Isle of Man in 2000. Done many trips since. More than riding buddies, he was best man at my wedding in 2005,and is my closest friend. We share a love of books, food, ale, music, and Moto Guzzis. We tour perfectly together, laugh a lot, know when to say nothing, and deal with adversity with good humour.

I ride two, three times per year with my two riding buddies of over 35 years. One now lives in Sparks, NV, the other in San Jose, CA and I in SW WA. We all did live in San Jose when we started to ride together. We've been in the desert many times at well over 100 degrees, lots and lots of rain and even in and while it was snowing. We use to camp all the time but not so much anymore all of us over 70 now. Our only problem was no one cares which direction we go. Plan A is made but Plan B is usually what happens. We just enjoy the journey, company and being on our motorcycles. Not one complainer in the lot! Enjoyed this vlog. You do understand.

You've met my riding buddy when she rode a little GROM wannabe halfway across Montana and back and grinned the whole time. The first ride we went on together was about a week after she got her endorsement. She rode my crusty old Honda Magna through Yellowstone Park in the rain, except for when it was hailing . . . . . Or almost snowing. I was out front on my Harley and kept stopping (largely because I was wet and cold) fully expecting her to ride up with tears in her eyes, only to see her grinning ear to ear. We were wet, we were cold, we couldn't see, and we all had a blast because nobody was complaining or blaming their misery on anyone else. Her, myself, my best friend, and his wife, were all in it together, we all embraced the suck and had a great time and a great ride. I came away from it with an entirely new respect for her and she's still my favorite riding buddy, largely because she'll do ridiculous shit with me like ride two tiny little Chinese motorcycles to RMR just to prove we can do it, LOL. I've met yours also, Marissa was camped next to me the first year I went to RMR. If I remember right she was riding a DR650??? Could be wrong about that but I remember her, she's cool as can be and I hope to cross paths with her again some time.

He became my best bud when I realized that his dark humor, sarcasm and his skill to say the most inappropriate things ate the most inappropriate times to lighten the mood matched mine. Since we got communicators it's been a lot of laughs even during rides and a lot of OMG from others riding with us and listen into our conversations. Good times! 🤣

Have I mentioned before, Don't plan a trip, just plot an outline. 😀 Determination and attitude is what separates long term riders from the once upon a timers. You have the right attitude. 👍 End: Yes I have someone I will ride with. Together we don't have problems only solutions to the challenges. 👍😎

A great story, told with genuine, lovely big smiles! My no.1 riding buddy is the guy that introduced me to motorcycles when we were 11 - on a moped in a field behind his house. 40 years later we ride together when we can and shoot the sh*t at coffee stops. We are just both tuned to the same wavelength. Sometimes won't meet up for 6 months to a year - no matter - just pick up where we left off.

I always enjoy someone else’s misadventures more than my own. I’ve been in similar circumstances, the latest was in South Dakota a few years ago. It was toward the end of May, it was windy and absolutely pouring rain. At my last gas stop someone decided they needed my waterproof gloves more than me and took them from the fuel tank of my Victory Cross Country Tour while I went in to pay for my gas. Needless to say, I got very cold, wet, blue hands and chattering teeth, but I didn’t stop riding until I made it to my destination In Gillette Wyoming. I managed to find a suitable pair of gloves and a motel. The next morning it was 30 degrees. I put on my Gerbings heated jacket and layered up (new gloves and all) and headed west on I-90. I caught up with a BMW riding two up. The woman on the pillion looked at me as I passed them and I could tell she was not having fun. I thought of the previous day ride and thought to myself, “someone else is having a worse day than I had ”. I sped past them and eventually turned into a roadside rest for a bathroom break, while I was getting back on my Victory, the BMW pulled in, I made eye contact with the young lady once more and she totally invalidated my concerns for her when she smiled and waved as I pulled out. This woman could have been you, or your friend..... in it all the way 100% committed to the ride, no matter the weather or any other circumstance. I Loved your story......

Had an ( already a) buddy that I took a 1500 mile with. My bike had a charging system issue that delayed the trip home. We hoteled at least an extra night-met guys at a shop that helped us out. Then made a four hour bomb run home in darkness. Would have been so much harder if buddy didn't stay behind. Nice story time. Hope you still ride w/ your buddy from time to time.

Love your story!! My BFF riding buddy is the best. I have many examples but one that sticks in my mind is when we also had a few wrong turn mishaps in Death Valley. I was out of water, freezing cold, pitch black at night (December) and could not feel my hands any longer. I was shivering so bad my headlight was shaking lol we had no choice but to keep going for another hour and a half or so till we finally found a hotel. He kept me going by telling me funny stories the whole way. I knew he was just as cold as me but he never let on, he just kept me focused. At that point I could not even laugh at his stories. But I appreciated them so much. Good times. PS-do you put any of your art work on bandanas? I’d love that if you did.

Met my friend at work that we bonded over our love of Wayne's World. Last year he he drove 30+ hours from Oklahoma to Washington to go camping with me in North Cascades/Cape Disappointment. He had never been camping before and this was like my 3rd time ever camping. Now he's my camping buddy.

On my first trip EVER off Long Island I was blessed to have a small crew of guys one of whom became a constant riding companion .... on that day it rained ... and when I say rain I mean sheets and rivers in the road rain ... My eyes were glued to his tail light as that was the ONLY thing I could see ... he was an experienced rider and had great patience with me ... I was too naive to realize what I had done, but from that day forward I was part of their group ... I didn’t complain and I ‘powered through’ ... so I completely get it .... :-)

Great video and awesome story it is always a great thing to have a riding buddy who is there to support you. Me and my riding buddy were headed to Colorado a couple of years ago and we were headed across Southern Kansas pulling our trailers on our Goldwings when I passed a Kansas DOT truck at 70 miles an hour when I suddenly blew out my rear tire I ended up in the ditch with a totaled bike and two broken ribs and luckily I was wearing my modular helmet that day that saved my head and face. My buddy stayed with me the whole time and saw to it that my bike got towed and then came to the hospital to make sure I was all right. I seldom ride alone and when I go with a buddy it is always Stanley my faithful compadre. Great story Amanda keep them coming. Cal from "A Wing and A Prayer".

It’s always great to find a moto-friend. I met a girl with the same name as me on IG. We met up at a location between both of us because we live in opposite directions. We talked about how we like to ride & went on our way. While riding traffic got backed up and we were barely moving on the expressway for about 30 min. Our bikes were getting hot so we exited and found out a guy was on the train tracks backing up traffic. She didn’t complain & we cut our ride short and headed to our homes. Since then we’ve been cool! Not only were our bikes similar but we had a lot in common😊

I had a similar adventure with my younger brother the first time I went on a multi-day trip. We rode up to Burlington, VT in April ‘09. We spent 4 hours on the side of a country road in Vermont waiting for a tow truck on the first day. On the second day, we got rained on in 50 degree weather for hours, and stopped in a random (awesome) diner in the Adirondacks to change into dry clothes/warm up. Also my bike randomly shut off on me in the middle of nowhere, but thankfully it restarted (still don’t know why - maybe the road spray shorted something in the electrical system?) One of the best rides I’ve ever been on.

@@AstheMagpieFlies well the way you break a chain is.. you are riding at dusk in the pouring rain looking for the turnoff to a campsite and almost miss it but when you pull off the road ya slide a bit in the gravel and that throws a few rocks on your chain so when you let the clutch out the chain derailed to the inside and the sprocket bolt bust 6 side plates off the chain. But hey I found the campsite!!

Kinda told you this once before when a group of us were on a weekend trip to Alturas CA Burns OR and back to Portland. On the way back we were going to take a ride across Wamic Market Road to Hwy 35. Got in there and hit a snow block so we turned around and went back to Maupin where the wind was howling so we decided Mt Hood would be less windy. Took off and hit sleet. So much for better. I pushed thru with the other guys (I had only been riding about a year) and went over the hill but I never complained about being half frozen. This was a fun video. I tend to ride mostly solo. Hopefully that will change this year and I will be able to do some rides with my oldest son. :)

It’s always an adventure! You tell the bestest stories!. End screen.... always solo. But when I lived in Florida I found the best diving buddy. (Cave diving no less, so your buddy is your lifeline!). Could anticipate what the other was going to do. If I ever find someone like that to ride with it would be fantastic!

@@AstheMagpieFlies I do miss the diving, but that was another life ago. Nothing like getting into a 72 degree spring and swimming upstream. Some caves were big enough to have semi truck races if they were dry. Others were tight restrictions to get from room to room. Or you could be swimming through a cave and only be 6’ under water. But that 6’ was solid limestone. Good memories.

Such a great story. I smiled while watching because it reminded me of a similar journey I took with a riding buddy I had just met. We had several things happen at the start of our ride that she never complained about but helped me find the humor in it all. Such a wonderful bond you can make while testing your own abilities. Riding with other women is awesome.

Great story! I’m fortunate that my family are my best riding buddies. Sure there are times when we don’t get along, but if one needs something, the others are on it till the problem is fixed.
My daughter and two of my brothers are the team. So when you started your trip with your brother last year I knew the feeling that you had. Family is the best but not all family is blood. Ride safe.

You're last comment is absolutely true!! "Sometimes the best trips are when things go wrong!" I've had more than a few of these and enjoy those memories the most! Met one of my great riding buddies at Touratec rally. Just happened to plop my tent next to his ....the rest is history! IDBDR, WABDR....more trips planned. AK I'm hoping!

Wonderful friends are hard to find.
My favorite riding buddies are tied. One of them has been the person that has repaired somebody’s tire, then somebody else’s tire, and finally his own. Always with a smile and great attitude.
When a person in our larger riding group dropped their bike in a parking lot and it hit a car, the highly acclaimed riding buddy and I both immediately were like, “ Yo! You had better leave a note!”

We like to ride at the same place and on trips we seem to have the same agenda. Can't wait to meet up for some longer trips this year.
