Huge kudos for talk about disability! I have those same trekking poles. They work for balance; they have saved me from many ankle injuries. I have also noticed that they are a bit like crutches to the detriment to some muscle groups. I suspect that it is the gluteus medius muscles, which I have been neglecting.
Great video Scott, looks like you are pretty well covered with a lighter pack out. My daytime load out looks very similar to yous. Accept way more food and water lol which I end up regretting after several miles
Newbie Hiker. Umlindi or Junction has been suggested. You'll never see me camping, just trekking through NYC forests and natural habitats for 1-3-5hrs....Female, 5,'6" and 17" torso. Been trying out Osprey and Gregory packs and can't find comfort. Maddening. I'll be carrying a light load: medical stuff, rain jacket, puff jacket, lunch, socks, wallet, keys, socks, phone, map, water, head lamp...Any wisdom you can offer, I'd be grateful.
I have both the Junction and the Umlindi. I personally do not care for the Junction as I think it’s too small and I wish there was more blousing to the pack so you could see in better. I really like my Umlindi a lot better. That said, for what you are looking for the Junction would suit you well. I bought a line pack and it was worth it. I think either pack would fit you well.
@@atlittlefarm Thanks for writing. I ended up returning the Junction. I kept the butt bag and Recon belt with side attachments. The Junction wasn't supportive enough for my back and with the harness, the bag dropped too low. I am short: 5'6" with a 17" torso or the Umlindi would have been my choice. Actually, it was always my choice but it was too long and big for my body and my short treks in the forests of NYC. I wanted that bad bag! I bet if I was at the store they would have had a fix. But I'm in NYC. I was bummed...but the waist pack is a great solution, being there wasn't another option. Great support. Still, I would have loved a backpack too....I think I need a woman's version....A girl (hardly) can dream. Cheers.
@hillpeoplegear I know its not necessarily what you geared your packs towards, but do you have a pack you would recommend for doing ruck walks with weight plates? Thanks!
My favorite shoulder only daypack is the Connor. My favorite belted daypack is the Umlindi. Junction would also be a good shoulder only choice. They'll all handle weight considerably more comfortably than the packs marketed for "rucking".
I carry a full water filter old school sweetwater) in my pack 24/7. It never leaves the pack no matter what I’m doing. But I’m a bit of a preparedness dude as well and don’t want to get caught anywhere without a water source. Btw what about that hat?

Solid load out for that little pack. The Line Pocket adds a nice bit of extra room without bulking it up too much. Need to add one to my kit.

I disagree with food choice. Low blood sugar can interfere with judgement and that can be lethal in the desert. Good video otherwise.
