    The two thermo sensors need to be offset because of the aquatuner beneath one turbine. The heat from the aquatuner keeps the steam temperature underneath that turbine higher than the farthest turbine. By my observation, for the exact setup given here, the thermo senser beneath the turbine with the aquatuner underneath needs to be kept at 220C while the away thermo senser be kept at 200C. I tried the same setup with five steam turbines, and the offset was by 80C (that is 280C and 200C). Thank you so much for the design.

    The main problem of the core geothermal power plants is that they are too complicated to be temporary, but they actually are temporary. The magma around your tempshift kernel will freeze quite soon, and the thermal conductivity of rock created this way is significantly lower than this power plant requires. The moment when magma turns into rock is the last day of your PP, and when rock's temperature is under 500° it's actually the death. I haven't seen any reasonable solutions that would solve this problem, and wouldn't require extreme volumes of resources and time. I can build three or four PP of other type instead, and they will be literally eternal

    I made the mistake of putting crude oil on the floor with the turbines, rather than water, and that caused the turbines to over heat at any temp over 170c for the thermo sensors, even with full radiant pipes around the turbines. After cleaning that up and putting water in, the temp issue went away and I was able to use the proper settings.

  • @Spoonwood

    Diamond is needed for the drillcone. There's an achievement for mining a certain amount of mass from asteroids. What if we had a thin layer of crude oil on top of the diamond below the steam turbines? Would it flash to sour gas, or is it likely stable as crude oil?

    Why use an acquatuner - can't the steam turbines be self-cooled - maybe radiant gas piping needed? Also why not drop the return water on top of the heat spike ie in the middle rather than on the side - should lead to more even temperature? Also you can use the diagonal build trick to make a plastic temperature shift plate (where the only hot thing is diagonal to the build location. The plastic TSP will draw heat diagonally and then melt into naphtha. At that point it stops being a temperature shift plate and stops drawing heat diagonally. Naphtha is second only to Viscogel (space materials) for liquid locks.

    • @2LegitCity
      @2LegitCity  8 місяців тому

      self coolilng steam turbines doesnt work past a certain temperature point because it breaks the balance and the steam turbine stops running. the aquatuner is needed.
      with the tempshift plates, it doesnt matter where the water is dropped.
      crude oil is easily the best liquid lock liquid imo due to having the highest g/mol value. while naptha is is pretty good, visco gel is very bad when it comes to liquid locks

  • @Jupiter-rs4zl
    @Jupiter-rs4zl Рік тому

    If you don't want to use aquatuners you can use 265 degree steam and use the water from the turbines to cool themselves. You get less power but you don't have to spend 1200watts just on cooling.

    • @2LegitCity
      @2LegitCity  Рік тому

      i believe that 265 value is in Fahrenheit. i would not recommend using a self cooling steam turbine design with a geothermal heat source as temperature control of steam is harder to fine tune. the self cooling steam turbine is very volatile and can break with just a 5c temperature increase, and when your pulling heat from a 1200c+ heat, that can happen in an instant

  • @ahmataevo
    @ahmataevo 2 роки тому

    While the magma core won't last forever, the minor volcanos and normal volcano will. They are all clustered fairly close. I read it's 2 turbines per minor volcano and 4 for regular making 10 for constant energy, but how many extra turbines + aquatuners are needed to cool the igneous rock consistent to the rate of volcanic eruption, for stone hatches or crushing into sand for pwater offgassing (need the ceramics...). I suspect simply 4 more won't be enough.

    • @2LegitCity
      @2LegitCity  2 роки тому

      it depends on how low youre willing to go with the igneous temp- i have a video that auto condenses the magma into igneous and extract that via molten lead pool, so you could go as low as 150c~ from the steam turbines drawing power

  • @VirtualHolocaust
    @VirtualHolocaust Рік тому +1

    ok im confused tho why would you ever want to turn off the steam turbines tho?

    • @2LegitCity
      @2LegitCity  Рік тому

      if the turbines are running 24/7, even though you have max power in batteries, you're effectively just burning off the power which lowers the temperature overall and shortens the lifespan of the geothermal plant. while the lifespan of a geothermal plant is tied to RNG (size of magma pool, shape, etc) and they tend to have long life, they do eventually run out

    • @2LegitCity
      @2LegitCity  Рік тому +2

      thats most likely the "door bug" thats been happening recently.
      basically the door is "open" and shouldnt transfer heat but for some reason the game still allows for heat transfer. this notably only happens when the game is laggy & simulating on any speed higher than 1x. as you stated, save & loading the game fixes it.

    • @2LegitCity
      @2LegitCity  Рік тому +1

      think it about it the other way, the aquatuner generates heat yes, but also needs to be cooled down. the cooling buildings of either the aquatuner or thermo regulator both generate alot of heat but only do that because of the amount of cooling theyre providing. so if i were to put it outside it work break instantly and the steam turbines would break as a result

    Wait what? Obsidian not conductive? Number beg to differ. Obsidian has the conductivity of 2,000 while ig. rock and magma has 1,000.
    What you might have meant is that there is less energy in obsidian due to it's lower mass per tile and 5x lower SHC; a tile of obsidian has about 10x less energy in it than a tile of magma assuming they are at the same temp, and they are in core.

    • @2LegitCity
      @2LegitCity  2 роки тому

      my bad, i tend to compare conductivity across all solids so that 2.000 is going against diamonds 80.000 or aluminium's 205.000. i was also considering how heat transfer would work and spoke without explaining deeper into the thought process. basically the equation for heat transfer, the liquid to liquid heat transfer is faster than the liquid to solid heat transfer. you are correct in how the obsidian holds less thermal energy comparatively to the magma due to how SHC values.
