Thank you, Sir! I truly appreciate all the work you have put into creating these videos to share with us. Your knowledge is excellent and your teaching is very thorough. You are my go-to guy for garden expertise. I will keep my eyes open for your seed giveaway. Very well done!
I bought this seed form the link you provided. Thank you very much. The seed package says its White Hyacinth Bean vine...that means its a vine plant or a bush variety? I don't have space to grow the vine variety.
California Gardening Hi hun! So I also purchased these beans and they say vine. Did yours say vine on the package because I like the fact that I grow it as a bush beans in a container 🙏be safe
I absolutely appreciate the recipes that you include! Your growing guides are extremely helpful but the addition of how you cook it is a fabulous bonus we don't get on other gardening channels. Great job.
Thanks for sharing. We sometime cooked with aloo or taro. We usually add tomatoes , onions and garlic. Sometime curry or fried. Delish! I have tried these types, but in Guyana we have the longer variety.
I did grow them for many years in ohio. They were extremely high yield ones. Gradually they became 100% vines. Because of limited growing season , the flowers never turned as pods.
Hello sir, just to inform u that the other variety of pods u r talking about is called avarekai in Karnataka.. it’s very famous all over south India.. this variety is used mainly for their seeds.. young pods u can hav it whole .. they will be very chewy n fibrous like drumstick when they r matured..
Hello! Wonderful video! I have been growing the vining variety of these beans for several years since they were given to me by a friend. They are the most prolific thing that I grow, and from just a couple of seeds, I have 50 feet of bean vines growing on a fence. They take over everything else that I grow! Have you ever cooked the beans that have dried on the vine (hull removed)? I'm going to have to do that this year because I have no room left in my freezer to store any more of the fresh beans. I'm looking for all the suggestions that I can get! Thanks!
This are actually very easy to and fast growing , I have grow Vine variety . Just sow them and keep supporting stick and cover heavily with green neem leave as mulch or anything you can find and water alternate day or every two days works with my soil due to rich soil in my pots and baam it grows.. I just put the seed which my mother discarded while cleaning lablab beans to cook and now I have more beans..
Avarakkai is what we tamilians call them. They make delicious Sambar & sabji too with coconut. Just found you today through the pineapple video. I think I have few seeds that I saved while cutting the veggie that I got from grocery store. Those ones looked mature so avoided them. Can I use them? I’m still in the process of watching ur video.
Hey hi, I am from Pune India. I just loved the way you explained in this video. I am also growing these beans on my roof top. Beans are not yet ready to harvest but I saw green colour small flying insects on beans. They eat flowers. I tried to control them by using organic pesticides but they fly when I spray and they come back. Will you please tell how to control them?
Nice informative video as always. I love hyacinth beans but it is difficult to get them in Indian stores in US. And I never knew there is a bush type in hyacinth beans. Please provide some seeds for me, I do live in California. Eagerly waiting for the give away.
love these beans., I have one plant which i harvested a lot last year. This year I am pulling that off and replanting a new one. If i can get some seeds from you it would be great.
My favorite beans. Reminds me of my time at my grand parents house in rural Andhra pradesh. My grandma(passed away recently ) used to cook them with milk. Tadka, then beans with some green chillies and milk at the end. Cook until milk curdles. I would greatly appreciate if i can get my hands on these beans. I live in Portland oregon. Our season is small here but I am sure I can get some yield.
I grew it for the first time, last year , but due to under the tree, on the ground, its height remained only one foot with some six beams only . I will saw in full sun this week.
I have been planting Hyacith plant for last 5 years it is typical Indian veg. This year I planted cheaper type doing very well it is very fleshy. Instead of shredded coconut use roasted crushed Peanuts. I would like to have Vallarai keerai seeds .where can I get it.please let me know.
California gardening - Hi, I love all your videos. You inspired me a lot. I live in San Diego. Is there a way I can get some seeds like hyacinth and curry leaf seeds from you? I will be very glad.
I recently planted some Hyacinth beans (which look exactly like yours) and they have started to sprout. However, I was told that the pods will be purple which means they will look different from yours (which are green) in the video. May I know if they actually are the same? I was also advised to cook the pods and beans at a high temperature and for a longer time because they are poisonous if undercooked. Is this true?
This bean bush is growing very lustrous but there no flowering at almost 3 month time. They are growing in the ground soil. What can I do to help them to flower?
Please let me know where you purchased them bush I would love to buy them because I have the vine one and they take sooo much space. And if you can share just a few seeds that would be much appreciated.

@california Gardening, I have rodents come and eat all my beans, including the leaves... I have kept a wire cage this year, but it’s coming from the small gaps between the wires. How can I save my plants (tomatoes are gone too!) from rats? (We kept camera to find what is eating my plants)
I’m watching from New York , I also plant every year hyacinth bean but I don’t have bush type hycinth bean if you have seeds please give me some seeds thank you
I am told they are poisonous. But if you have been eating them all your life, could you have developed a tolerance to the toxins? I grow them for ornamental purposes, and I am tempted to eat them now!
Its nice to see you cook your veggies. From seed to harvest to plate its so amazing
