toilet brush I picked up a solar shower but haven't had to use it. Also seen people use 2 gallon weed sprayers. They put cold water in some. Add hot water, pump it up and use the sprayer for a shower. It would still ne rough doing that outside in cold weather.

I've been peeing in those Wal-Mart great value bottles 24 pack for $2. Drink it cuz you need water anyway, don't trow those away! Leave one or two every day. So a human needs about 1.5 L a day, so 3 bottles. If you really have a big'o bladder fill all three and get rid of them next day. I've been doing this for months and will continue when the Canadian winter is gone. Enjoy bro. Also those gallon bottles work great.

Awesome man, thanks for the inspiration! I'm on month two in Ontario. Not exactly California weather but it's slowly warming up!
Don't try to seal in the smelly gym clothes or they will go sour and smell worse. Seems counterintuitive, but try to let them air out best you can. Once they are dry the smell won't waft around anymore. Use a mesh bag (like for storing down bags) to keep them from fermenting until laundry day.

I like to watch Netflix while I go to the bathroom. You’ve got a back seat, and a ton of room in your cab! 2. Park in neighborhoods! People drive slow in neighborhoods! Also, get yourself some knives, wasp spray, bear spray, and a few tasers to keep around the truck cause yeah, you’ll blow those eardrums with a gun. Also, get yourself a stuff sack for your dirty laundry. They breathe in but not out! You seem like you might be able to invest in a laundry service too! Best of luck man! Thanks for sharing!

I am a 47 year old male who has worked as a truck driver since January of the year 2000, and although I cannot say that I enjoy using public restrooms, I can say that I have never had the crabs, or any other toilet transmitted disease. Also, I love pringles brand chips, and I must admit that a pringles can is an excellent high capacity emergency urinal. Also, if I was going to park on city streets at night alot, I would put some of the highly reflective tape that is used on commercial trucks on the rear of my camping vehicle. A proven way of dealing with stinky clothes that cannot be washed in a timely manner is to simply find the time to lay the clothes out in the sun for a few minutes, even if they do not have time to completely dry the UV radiation will destroy alot of the odor causing bacteria.

I have the idea to fall back on this type of living in worst case scenario or for an extended vacation. At home I hand wash my clothes in a 5 gallon bucket. I have athletic shirts or golf shorts which are extremely light. I have 4 sets that are identical except for color. With the quality of hand washing I can go 5 days per set easily in worst case scenario however i usually stick to 2 days. Wearing one set i can wash 3 which can last me 6-15 days after they dry for a couple hours.

How to cure your hangover problems:
    1. Get a butane stove & a small cooking pot
    2. Acquire ramen noodles
    3. After a night of drinking, cook ramen noodles, make sure you leave some nice hot water with them, season, and eat the ramen soup.
    4. Drink water after eating ramen
    5. Drink water when you wake up (like at least 400 ml+, aka a normal size water bottle)
This works for me and has saved me from many hang overs. The amount of salt in ramen will help replace the salts you lose from drinking, the noodles help soak up the alcohol, and the hydration of course helps re-hydrate you. If you can't do this, I recommend eating good salty/carb foods like french fries or pizza after drinking, but ramen is by far the best preemptive hangover medication I've ever discovered. You're welcome.

  • @jasonbellini7946
    @jasonbellini7946 5 років тому

I've thought of doing this but I don't because it would be wayyyy too much suffering for me. I have generalized anxiety, depression and a good bit of social anxiety and to top it off as if those weren't more than enough, I get embarrassed very easily, so things like walking into McDonald's just for the bathroom without paying for anything or even just the nonstop worrying of if someone might hurt me while I'm asleep, it would all be emotionally and mentally depleting. I do however enjoy long road trips and have traveled cross country from Louisiana to California and even gone to Chihuahua twice. All very pleasant, fun, life giving experiences. Kudos to you, your strength and your determination. As for your clothes, I would suggest letting them sun out on your truck bed to help in reducing the level of bacterial growth by drying out the sweat, it would also minimize the odor by alot. You can even do this with your tennis shoes. An even better idea is to buy a cheap spray bottle and some alcohol and spray your clothes and shoes and let them get some sun and air. This will all definitely help with the quality of air for you, you can also spray your seats and and wipe down with alcohol, put the windows down and let it all dry to maintain a better quality of air overall. Good luck bro and wishing you well!

The rest turned into hangovers so the financial advantage ended there. LOL

    Wanna know a secret?
Most cities or towns have hospitals. If you gotta go Number 2? Go to the hospital, I know this from working in hospitals.
Do not use the main large 'men and women' bathrooms in the front lobby or ER. Walk down the halls or around corners and search any floor for a small, private one toilet restroom. These are super clean and private. You could even get in a quick bird bath at the sink.
I lived in my 4Runner a few times, had a full time job and got a 24 hr gym membership for showers. I got up in the mornings and peed in an Arizona Ice Tea bottle with the big mouth or Gatorade.
I parked at grocery or retail store parking lots overnight, many of these places have night crew employees parked all night so you won't stick out. I also parked at apartment complexes visitors parking and got the hell out of there at sunrise.
I glued hooks up behind the front seats and hung a black sheet so you couldn't see in the back from the windshield or front windows. All back windows had very dark tinting but I would also put up cardboard on the inside no one can see in even if they put a flashlight against the window. I also rented a storage unit

One thing I find that helps for smelly gym clothes is mesh and fabric bags. Mesh bags allow them to air out any moisture for a short time. I place all my dirty clothes in a fabric bag. If the bag starts smelling I throw it in the wash.

I used to know a lady who made a camper out of her VW bus. She had a great solution to peeing during the night. Drill a hole in the floor of your pickup bed. Put a grommet in the hole, run a piece of foley bag tubing through the grommet and under the truck. Place a large funnel on the other end and you’ve got a place to pee and it runs on the ground under the truck. I would imagine it would beat pinching it off midstream when the urinal fills up!

You should keep a couple extra water bottles around for the urine issues. After drinking, if you take a couple asprin/Tylenol with some water, that will greatly reduce your hangovers. The older you get the worse those hangovers are so you might wanna cut back or give up with beers.

That hotdog is still pink. Yeah CA sucks. Pepper spray? I'm glad for the honest assessment for the cons of this lifestyle. Maybe time for an updated vehicle with room for shower/toilet? Or find spot to park steady. Co worker driveway maybe?
Most homeless folks I talk to have 24 hour gym memberships for shower and toilets. And some find creative ways to do laundry in the shower.
As a female with long hair, and no strength to defend myself, this doesn't seem doable for me.
Check out Will Prowse channel for RV living. He was in the Bay Area but recently went south for a parking spot to rent. He looks so much more relaxed. He had multiple security measures he might tell you about privately.

Yeah dirty clothes need air. Not letting stuff air out is the worst thing you can do. Some kind of floor ventilation would probably be ideal if you could swing that. It's discrete and won't let the elements in.
Maybe even some kind of shallow basket you could attach underneath your truck where you could lent your dirty clothes vent would work too.

For deodorant you can go very cheap but at the same time very (I repeat) very effective: mix 1 part bakingsoda with 2 parts slightly melted coconut oil (the variety which is somewhat solid at room temp.) which you use by rubbing 2 pees worth under the arms... as said very effective and odourless (you can smell nice by using your favourite cologne and not smell like a washing machine with all the different odours...
Similarly you can use bakingsoda to keep smells down in your laundry bag...again: very effective, bakingsoda is a very good de-odorizer... Simply toss a few table spoons of the stuff in with the laundry and you will be good... It won't hurt the washing process later nor will it attack your clothing in any way.

As far as someone breaking into the back of your truck or opening your tailgate or camper shell, I used a couple of tarp straps to keep that from happening. Two of them hooked together were just long enough to go under the handle on the inside of the shell and reach back a few feet to find something to hook onto. Super tight and wasnt in the way, no way in hell anyone was getting in that way.
