As always .. Superb instruction video and design Peter, and it couldn’t have been timed better.. whilst I haven’t got a festool domino joiner, I’ve just invested in a biscuit jointer.. it does have green on it though 😂. (This should be fun 😬) . Btw I couldn’t help thinking.. maybe a longer table with an M for Millard 🤔 maybe too much 😂. As always ., huge fan! Cheers Rob
Cheers Rob! Was eyeing up that biscuit jointer myself - just don’t really need one! I’m just working on spelling out the Zizzi logo, then I can start thinking about Ms… 😂👍
Very simple yet elegant design! I have visited the Rietveld museum (he actually designed a whole house, in Utrecht, the Netherlands), and marvelled at all his different chairs, his designs are awesome. Kept looking at all the joinery methods he used, and wondered if they would hold my weight 😄🪑🦼
Great to see you are inspired by Mondriaan and Rietveld. They have some fantastic designs. I made the Red and Blue chair and it’s surprisingly comfortable. Also made the Steltman but one hour on that chair is enough.
Nice to know that pros also have to put in a lot of thinking when building things that are new to them. I am a hobbyist woodworker and do not have access to all the powertools that are available in the western countries. Hence, I also have to thoroughly think and plan everything according to the resources/tools available to me when I undertake a new project. Good learning from you as always, Peter. Thanks a lot.
Thanks Peter, that's a simple but stylish item, very nice in the simple waxed natural finish, but as you said so many options - I think it could be nice with a contrasting dark diagonal ! Always good to see content from you, but also hoping the step back is helping with the wrist, I know only too well the perils of not heeding the message that pain is there to warn you of !
@ Hello there. Yes I think the problem of yellowing is largely down to beeswax based products, but mine doesn’t use beeswax and gives it a more natural looking finish. One point of order though from Peter’s members videos in the build up to this, some birch ply recently has been yellowing ever so slightly with my wax and we believe it is more down to the quality of the ply veneers and not the wax that’s why I’d always recommend doing a test run on a bit of scrap first 👍👍
I think I need to do a follow up to show angled dowel construction, but basically you use a dowel jig against a wedge, like I do with the domino but the reverse angle. 👍
Great video, thanks for sharing. It doesn't happen very often that Mondriaan and Rietveld are mentioned in a woodworking video. Congratulations on your 600th video. (when I open your channel, in the header is written 647 videos) 47 shorts or 47 disappeared?
Thanks Hans! No idea about the UA-cam numbering convention - I know I’ve been numbering my videos in the title from day 1, so that’s what I’m working from! Maybe shorts and lives make up the difference? Not unlisted, as I have way more than that! 🤷♂️👍
Real wood is just so much nicer for tables than painted MDF . I use Spotted Gum and Iron Bark , but it's heavy and if it's accidently kicked , you'll feel it !
Hi Peter, I’ve followed your channel since day one, most informative channel on the net, I do have a question for you, what tracks work with Rutland plunge saw the corded version as the track that came with it doesn’t accept any of the track clips, cheers
Thanks James! The Rutlands - like the Lumberjack and the Excel etc.. corded saws - come with the generic rail with the C shape on the left side, so not much good for accessories, as you’ve learned. These saws tend to have a wider base plate too, which makes them incompatible with the Makita rail. Until recently your only serious option would have been Festool OEM rails - typically cutting more than the saw - but we now have the option of the Evolution G2 rails. These are the best bang/buck option tbh; they’re a close copy of the Festool rails, Andre 2x1400 rail set is great value. I talked through the nuances in a couple of videos from last year 👍: Don’t Buy the Wrong Rail - ua-cam.com/video/9SHIrwWMiz8/v-deo.html and Saws Galore 2024! - ua-cam.com/video/yQwIFfn95SM/v-deo.html
Thanks Peter, I was afraid of that, I’ll have to bite the bullet I guess, thanks for taking the time to answer my question, keep up the great work, funnily enough, I too was a pro photographer before retiring, cheers
Hi Peter. One of the reasons i like your videis is tge you work in mm. Most American videos use inches, which is frustrating. Many only have plans in imperial measurements. Does the woodworkers guild have msny plans in metric or is it mostly imperial?
I like the simplicity of the geometric shape. I think I prefer the wonky I over Z though would like the leg to sit at a slightly more of an angle, about 20 mm closer to the edge - I see you matched the angle to the bevel but it doesn't look like the same angle (because perspective). I'd also consider adding a small ledge or pocket for the tablet to the leg so it can be put away out of sight.
Thanks! As always, if you make one you can make any changes you like, but at the risk of stating the obvious, any changes to the positioning would either affect the height or the angle, and one of the reasons the plans aren’t available yet is that it really needs a chart of height / angle / size ratios to go alongside it. 👍
Nice table, design is very subjective. The bevels all round looked good, but I would have gone with bevel on the ends of the top and bottom to match the centre support and straight sides. Think it would be a bit more dynamic, accentuating the angle like that.
Well I would have preferred that you use solid wood and wedged through mortice and tenon joints - but those will do........:tongue in cheek: :^) On a serious note I need to steal that tape layout trick. That was pretty nifty. Well done!
Thank you! And if you choose to make one then you can use whatever method of construction you like! 😉😂 Yes, the tape trick is a good one - you could just measure it, but tape is so much more satisfying! 👍
Thanks! There’ll be plans available before too long, but all the dimensions are mentioned in the video, apart from the overall height which is up to you and how tall your sofas are. 👍

Thanks Cary! More to come, for sure! 👍

Thanks for the video. Looks like your wrist is doing well.
Thanks! It’s doing OK - a lot better than it was, that’s for sure! 👍
Great to see you are inspired by Mondriaan and Rietveld. They have some fantastic designs. I made the Red and Blue chair and it’s surprisingly comfortable. Also made the Steltman but one hour on that chair is enough.

lovely simple tables Peter. Very effective, Thank you.
Thanks Mark! 👍
Oi I thought you were off in Jan? Turning up early to work 😂.
Nice to see you back Peter
Couldn’t stay away! 😃👍
Nice design and execution Peter. Take care & stay safe.
Thanks Doug, you too! 👍
Well done Sir!! as always!

Thanks Andy! Yes, the wrist is always there to remind me not to do anything too strenuous, at the minute! Definitely getting easier though, thanks!
Congrats on number 600 Peter. Lovely to have a build video 👍
Thanks! 👍
Hi Peter, Well done on your 600th video, Nice table project and looks good in your living room. hope to catch you soon, great video take care
Thanks Sean! 👍
Blimey Peter I've been fortunate enough to feature in your 300th and 600th videos for completely different reasons 👍
😂😂 It had crossed my mind Leo! You’ve done all right, pal! 👍
Hi chaps, I’ve had a problem with waxed ply going yellowy. Does Leo’s wax solve this? Cheers

love them socks! nice video as always thanx rick
🤦♂️ *those socks!
Thanks Rick! London transport’s finest moquette. 👌
Really nice and simple design, that works
Thank you! 👍
Great to see a new video. Nice as it was to get a weekly, I can wait for when you’re ready to publish the next one.
Thank you! 👍
Thanks for sharing, and happy anniversary on your 600 video.
Thank you! 👍
Really beautiful work, Peter! It turned out great! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks, you too! 👍
Peter, your end tables are nicely designed and built!
Thanks Steve! 👍
congratulations on 600!
Thank you! 👍
I like the elegance of this, just need to work out how to do this without a domino. Congratulations on reaching 600, thats a huge commitment
I think I need to do a follow up to show angled dowel construction, but basically you use a dowel jig against a wedge, like I do with the domino but the reverse angle. 👍
Thanks Peter great idea I wznt to make something similar from some off cuts of solid wood I have.
Go for it! 👍
Nice one.
Thanks! 👍
Good to see the hand straps are off - hope recovery is coming along.
Thanks! I should still be wearing it tbh. 🤷♂️

Thanks, though tbh I should have worn it. 🤷♂️👍
I like it -I like it, in fact fantastic, have you ever done any upholstered or open frame ,such as corner seating ?
Thanks! No, nothing upholstered, closest I’ve come was some Danish cord on bc a stool. Complete nightmare! 😂👍
Beautiful!
Thanks Mark! 👍
Real wood is just so much nicer for tables than painted MDF . I use Spotted Gum and Iron Bark , but it's heavy and if it's accidently kicked , you'll feel it !
A nice and simple, yet beautiful design. The devil is in the detail 😉
Thank you very much! 👍

No.
Zed captured Zee.
😳
(Free Zee. Zed is dead!)
😉😎🕺🏻

Thanks! I’ve no idea bout WWGOA in regard of their plans - might be a question for them directly, I think? 👍
Lovely work sir, but could we have a dowel version too please? (Don’t own a domino)😥
Surely you can work that out?
Hey - Peters back! Nice piece of birch ply - has the price gone down a bit?
Thanks! And not a lot of- sheet of 22mm Birch was ~£170 or so. 😕🤷♂️
@ - yikes!

So you're not painting the lamination edges red, yellow and blue. That's a great book, isn't it.
Sorely tempted to try one tbh! And yes, great book. 👍👌
Thank goodness it's "zed" not "zee"!
@@jeffbaker8808 being from Canada I appreciate it too!
Zeed
@@stoff6969 Ha Ha, must be the spelling from the EU.
Because of the American influence on British children I find myself always correcting them.
I much prefer the ‘I’ table design glad you showed that one 😊
Good to know, thanks! 👍
