Rayon is a manufactured fiber made from natural sources such as wood and agricultural products that are regenerated as cellulose fiber. The many types and grades of rayon can imitate the feel and texture of natural fibers such as silk, wool, cotton, and linen.
Rayon is made from purified cellulose, harvested primarily from wood pulp, which is chemically converted into a soluble compound. It is then dissolved and forced through a spinneret to produce filaments which are chemically solidified, resulting in fibers of nearly pure cellulose.

You're a confident presenter and I could listen to you all day! Most informative information about semi-synthetic fabrics.
I just bought 2 pairs of raylon shorts and had no idea what it was. You are a very good and elegant presenter. Thank you for the amazing work and hope your channel grows more!
Your way of giving information about fabrics is very simple with beneficial and important detail ,, thanks again😊
Thank you! Happy to help!
This was superhelpful! It is so hard to find anything that is 100% cotton.
Strange. I must say that I see 100% cotton quite often. Maybe try different brand than what you are used to.
Nice explanation ✌importance of rayon
Thanks and you're welcome
Great! Liked the difference you made between Viscose and Rayon...
Thanks a lot!
Brilliant video and presentation.
Happy to hear you liked it!
Found this very helpful. Fine quality men's ties (silk, wool) are very scarce in South Africa, or just very expensive. I'm not familiar with rayon; would you say that rayon or viscose ties are a good alternative?
Great job!
Thank you!
Amazing content, thanks for going into details and keeping it simple at the same time
My pleasure! Thank you so much for watching.
Thanks for this!
My pleasure!
Excellent introductions
Glad you like them!
Brilliant
Love your videos.
Thank you!
Very wonderfull video
Thank you!
Question: I have a beautiful blouse made of 100% but it’s just too big. It also has an elasticized waist and buttons. Will this fit me after I put in the dryer or be uneven? Thank you!
Hi Gem.
Difficult to say. I think a "safer" option is to take it for alterations. If you don't have one already, you can ask your local dry cleaners if they do alterations or Google "tailor" in your area.
If you want to take the chance of putting it in the dryer make sure it's in a dry/ mostly dry form. Put it in at a lower heat setting for short periods of time 5-10min. Take it out, try it on, and see how it fits. Remember the entire garment will probably start shirking therefore in the areas where it is body hugging it might become tight.
Hope that helps! 🌼
This is super interesting! Thank you for making this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm reading a book about the oppressive economy of 1930s Germany. Part of it explains how they expected rayon/cell wool would be a replacement for the wool German was having a difficult time importing from the U.S.. I've been unable to find anything about cell wool. Is it basically a synonym for rayon?
Tnx for this information
Any time
wow nice explanations
Thank you so much 🙂
Thanks for the information. I'm your new subscriber.
So nice of you. Welcome!
You are amazing
This is really helpful. I’ve always hated rayon as it just doesn’t hold up well.
Glad it was helpful :)
I have a question can I print an image with heat transfer paper on this type of material?
I am not entirely sure. I recommend doing a patch test. Also, the colour (print) might wash off over time, depending on how well the printing was done. Good luck!
Is 55% rayon 45%viscose considered expensive or good quality?
Most fabrics can be low or high quality (depending on how it gets made). With that said, a blend such as the one that you are referring to is not considered to be expensive/ exclusive fabric. Hope that helps!
But why rayon is cheaper than viscose.. Please correct me if I'm wrong..
what if we wash it too often? maybe twice or thrice a week, will it damage the fabric?
That is a tough one. The more you wash any fabric, the more wear it will show. If you get a higher quality Rayon it might last you longer, or perhaps a Rayon blend is a good option.

Is rayon breathable? There were a lot of stores selling rayon bodysuits and I'm not sure if it's breathable enough for the hot weather.
Hi Francesca, it's not known for it's breathability, but I do think it's better than polyester and nylon. Hope it helps?
@@BeateMyburgh thank you!!
Hello mam I need help I’m trying to find shirts that are stretchy but stays tight. And the shirts really fitted any suggestions
Cotton blended with a high quality synthetic will be best. Maybe try body suits?
Excellent explanation. Ma'm plz make a video on Fabron.
Hi, thank you. From a quick Google search it seems that Fabron is a manufacturer of textiles, and therefore not a type of fibre/ textile or fabric.
@@BeateMyburgh ma'm thanks for reply. In Pakistan there is a large production of fabron yarn. I also found not such material related to fabron yarn on google thats why I requested u. If u have some knowledge about count of yarn then plz make a video on it.
@@risingsun589 thanks for the information. Unfortunately I carry no knowledge and will not be making a video on it at this time. Good luck and all the best for 2021.
So I purchased 2 pairs of underwear on line And I just got them in the mail And saw on the label that they were made of 95% rayon And 5% cotton I No clue of what rayon was So I looked it up and found this video. It's very interesting And i will be doing more research on this fabric.
That's great that you did research!
Thank you mam
Thank you too
Considering the usage of toxic chemicals in its production, I was wondering, does rayon cause cancer?
and do other synthetic/semi synthetic fabrics/fibers like for example polyester cause cancer?
I won't be able to say. I think that will be interesting research!
Yes, they most certainly can from my research.
You won't get microplastics in your body from this. And even on microplastics there is very little known on whether that causes cancer. I've rayon on my OK list with Linen, Cotton, Hemp. I even have 100% polyester on my OK list for a certain use: it is the best material for bathing suits. Lycra/spandex does not come into my house! I skip all stretch fabrics.
I bought a 100% rayon button up Express shirt now i'm terrified to wear it lol seems more fragile than silk! Jesus.
haha, wear it, see how it holds up.
was about to buy a piece of clothing with rayon material til i watched this!!! glad i did though, kinda bummed out that there is not a single pro to the environment for this material :-( thanks for sharing this information!
I know right? I was also surprised that it had no environmental pros!
Outside of the fact you can literally recycle the material 100% and be reused .
its an order of magnitude better for the enviroment than almost all other synthetic fibres and in terms of resourses can be better than cotton
My name is rayon
😅😅😅😅
Which silky satin fabric is sustainable and not too expensive?
Maybe check for a tencel blend. Tencel by it's self can be expensive
Vintage viscose/rayon.... Tencel is a horrible stain magnet.
Viscose is one of several types of rayon: ua-cam.com/video/1daBc3lP9xA/v-deo.html
In fact, it's the first generation of rayon. To be more precise, viscose is both a method of producing rayon and the product of that method. The same is true of lyocell, modal, etc.
More info on this:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rayon
Can I wash my rayon jacket with powdered detergent?
Yes you can. It tends to shrink so just do it at the correct temperatures (lower temp). Additionally, avoid using a dryer.
thanks for the Information, really appreciate it. Can you do a video of Cupro and Modal too? thanks you.
Happy you enjoyed it! I'll kepp the two in mind for season 2. With regards to modal (and cupro to some extent) you can have a look at S1:E9 What is Viscose (quite similar). ua-cam.com/video/23aHkpqjEuY/v-deo.html
What are the types of Rayon fabrics?
They all fall under the term 'Regenerated fibers'. Semi-synthetic: ua-cam.com/video/KJ9Vj9O1S0w/v-deo.html
Regenerated and semi synthetic is same ideas ?
Yes :)
Do you have a 📹 video for cotton. Yeah I'm staying away from Rayon after this info.
ua-cam.com/video/roNKDGQlicQ/v-deo.html
Yes! I shared the link 😀
Does rayon stretch
No it won't stretch by itself. It will stretch when blended with other fabrics that do stretch.
Will rayon be hot to wear?
Is it breathable and regulates temp
Somewhat. It is definitely more breathable than synthetic fabrics.
@@BeateMyburgh is it stretchy? & regulates temperatures like silk 😯
no not stretchy, when blended with other fibers it can be. Regulates temperature better than synthetics.
@@BeateMyburgh Thankyou so much
very helpful!tnx
Glad it was helpful!
Is rayon material transparent??? Plz tell meee????
Not necessarily or always. Many I have been are on on the thiner side, so if you have light shining from behind you, you might be able to see through the fabric. So yes it can happen.
@@BeateMyburgh thnk u so much💓
Is rayon stretchable??
very much not
No. When blended with Spandex/ Lycra it is. Learn more here:

which country belong
Rayon is fully the same as viscose, it is American vs European name convections. I've Hawaii shirts in rayon that look like thick matte cotton. I've viscose items with super shine. There is a relation between fabric name and country of origin. Made in US/Honk Kong/India/Mexico usually means the name is rayon. Saying rayon has no evironmentally benefits is very short sighted. Deforestation? Serious? Guess cotton does more deforestation than rayon. Usually viscose is from production forests in Scandinavia, which is pretty sustainable. Other benefits for the environment is that the fibres are non toxic and can biodegrade. Third is that they get less stink, so you need less washing and less deoderant and such. Second hand it is also lacking most of the downsides you mention. I hardly have any usages issues that are different than cotton or linen. Ironing is super easy, piling is there sometimes, but very minor, and invisible from a distance, so nothing like wool. If they can fix the fibre process, it is a very eco-friendly material. Not all attempts at that are great. Lyocell/Tencell are horrible for example.
The production of viscose/rayon is potentially very dangerous to the people involved as it involves a chemical called carbon disulphide. This causes brain damage and resulting side effects like impotence, depression and suicidal ideation. Many workers have taken their own lives due to over inhalation. The factories also tend to be in poorer countries and don’t police the waste dumped into nearby rivers poisoning people downstream. On the flip side it can be made safely if the reaction with carbon disulphide is covered and the chemical is recovered to be reused. So while rayon is nice to wear it’s manufacturing is often hazardous.
@@jimcrawford97 I know, you told it, but I was trying to say that vintage viscose is already there. But no new viscose nor bamboo or lyocell for me.
Everyone said it’s toxic
My last name is rayon ❓
Cool!
Hate that rayon shows my cellulite. Not a forgiving fabric.
Dear all bodies need to be loved! But if you want something more 'forgiving' try wearing a flowy skirt x
@@BeateMyburgh thank you!
It does shrink if put in the dryer. Especially if it is 100% rayon.
Yes, be very careful with rayon and heat. Check the label of your garment for instructions; I'll avoid the drier even if the label says it's okay. :)
Do away with the dryer. Useless machine.
I dont like this fabric I came to know about it bcoz I was gona buy a dress online.
Cool!
