Sorat'h, First Mehla:
ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਧੁਰਾਹੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥
sarab jeeaa sir lekh dhuraahoo bin lekhai nahee koiee jeeau ||
Destiny, pre-ordained by the Lord, looms over the heads of all beings; no one is without this pre-ordained destiny.
ਆਪਿ ਅਲੇਖੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
aap alekh kudharat kar dhekhai hukam chalaae soiee jeeau ||1||
Only He Himself is beyond destiny; creating the creation by His creative power, He beholds it, and causes His Command to be followed. ||1||
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਜਪਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
man re raam japahu sukh hoiee ||
O mind, chant the Name of the Lord, and be at peace.
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ahinis gur ke charan sarevahu har dhaataa bhugataa soiee || rahaau ||
Day and night, serve at the Guru's feet; the Lord is the Giver, and the Enjoyer. ||Pause||
ਜੋ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥
jo a(n)tar so baahar dhekhahu avar na dhoojaa koiee jeeau ||
He is within - see Him outside as well; there is no one, other than Him.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
gurmukh ek dhirasaT kar dhekhahu ghaT ghaT jot samoiee jeeau ||2||
As Gurmukh, look upon all with the single eye of equality; in each and every heart, the Divine Light is contained. ||2||
ਚਲਤੌ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਖਹੁ ਘਰਿ ਅਪਨੈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਇਹ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥
chalatau Thaak rakhahu ghar apanai gur miliaai ieh mat hoiee jeeau ||
Restrain your fickle mind, and keep it steady within its own home; meeting the Guru, this understanding is obtained.
ਦੇਖਿ ਅਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੁ ਰਹਉ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
dhekh adhirasaT rahau bisamaadhee dhukh bisarai sukh hoiee jeeau ||3||
Seeing the unseen Lord, you shall be amazed and delighted; forgetting your pain, you shall be at peace. ||3||
ਪੀਵਹੁ ਅਪਿਉ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥
peevahu apiau param sukh paieeaai nij ghar vaasaa hoiee jeeau ||
Drinking in the ambrosial nectar, you shall attain the highest bliss, and dwell within the home of your own self.
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭਵ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਗਾਈਐ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥
janam maran bhav bha(n)jan gaieeaai punarap janam na hoiee jeeau ||4||
So sing the Praises of the Lord, the Destroyer of the fear of birth and death, and you shall not be reincarnated again. ||4||
ਤਤੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਬਾਈ ਸੋਹੰ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥
tat nira(n)jan jot sabaiee soha(n) bhedh na koiee jeeau ||
The essence, the immaculate Lord, the Light of all - I am He and He is me - there is no difference between us.
ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥੧੧॥

The Infinite Transcendent Lord, the Supreme Lord God - Nanak has met with Him, the Guru. ||5||11||

What I mean is, just by wearing 5 K s, one will not become a sikh.
It is by following the teachings of the Guru, which is most important.
Sikhi, is not for outside display but walking in Gurumat and to continue learning.
Please, understand that I'm not denying the wearing of 5ks, but I'm trying to highlight the following of teaching of the Guru, which is above all.

Shubhvijaya phalguna no its more important and above to take amrit and follow shri guru granth sahib ji, than to just following shri guru granth sahib ji.. like most Indian spiritual traditions you have to adopt a guru and the way you adopt shri guru granth sahib ji is by khanda di pohal...there is big difference in a person's karma who follows shri guru granth sahib ji by taking amrit and in a person who just follows the teaching... Karma is a huge game...

Hi, I am 27 yrs old. Recently I have started watching your videos. While watching, I am trying to find answers to my questions or at times i am trying to relate events with your explanations. I have been doing paath since long time but now in this lockdown I have time and I am trying to understand the meaning of paath sahib. I have been through rough times in my life but whaeguruji has always been with me. Because it could have been lot worse if thy god is not with me. Amazing. This has nothing to do with religion, tradition and culture. It’s reality which is same for everyone, so more we are familiar with what reality is, easier it gets to navigate through this life. A small note to my Sikh friends here - Did you know the origin of the word Satsriakaal? It comes from Sanskrit -> Satya (truth) + Sri (divine) + Akaala (ubounded by time). Satya is shortened in Punjabi as Sat just like numerous Sanskrit words.
This is the same way for Namaste - which comes from Namaha + sa + te = which means the divine in me bows down to the divine in you.
The tragedy is that Britishers killed Sanskrit and have disconnected the people of this country from its roots where people don't know the origin of the words they even speak.
But here we are in a tragedy where somehow a meaningless term Hi, Bro, Yo are considered cooler than far more meaningful and spiritual words.
We know it with almighty’s grace… I studied Sanskrit for 3 years myself

About the letting go ego. A player is at his/her best when they let go the sense of self and be one with game. Same goes for an artist or a actor, the best work comes when they let go the self. Now imagine if we let ego go for day to day life, how productive the world be.

I have been through practicing yoga meditation, my health designed me to be a yoga and meditation teacher, I was guided through, hindi philosophy, I love it, I always prayed to spirit and asked Guru ji please find someone in Sikhi to explain in English from Gurbani, because I am a Sikh, and now listening to your vibrational inspirational translation relates to the interpretation I have been practicing through Bhaghvad Gita. I am so happy that I have found you on UA-cam, which i never expected, divine intervention. Really wonder if Satpal veerji you even realise what you are doing to people’s lives. Your understanding of Gurbani has been transformational for myself and few more that I know. So glad I found you right when I’m trying to figure out my identity as a female born in a Sikh family. My parents are Amritdhari, but since we never lived in Punjab, they didn’t bother to teach me Punjabi or how to read and write in it. I sure can learn now on my own but that will take sometime. I’m on my spiritual journey and struggle with translations, as deep down I can tell some translations are incorrect. So glad I found you! Please share any apps that are in English that could be helpful for me. I want to make sure I can pass on Sikhi to my kids, and they never feel lost like I do sometimes. Thank you 🙏

Satpal jee; u r absolutely right when u talked about the shabad “ jo mange thakur apne te “ that it should start from previous lines and yes once an enlightened person asks anything Akalpurakh has to grant all his wishes!
Further Satpal jee even the shabad “ Aukhi gharee na dekhan daeen “” has similar explanations!! But satpal jee
When you said that I m not sure whether when an enlightened person says something, whether it actually happens! Yes Satpal jee, when an enlightened Bhagat utters anything, The universe ensures that it actually happens!! That is why, an enlightened soul needs to b very careful while uttering anything as cosmos is left with no choice but to obey that person’s uttered words!! Even in sukhmani sahib it’s said waheguru vase saadh ke rasna “
As u r absolutely right when you said we can not be 10 percent manmukh and 90 percent gurmukh; the same way we can not doubt that is written in gurbane; so when a saadh says anything, Akalpurakh ensures that it happens!! And I have seen this in front of me and it’s my first hand experience!! With huge respect for u and huge love for u;; I thank you for explaining things in such beautiful way!! Ur lecture on hukam was simply out of this world!! I m indebted to u!! Time has come for the world to embrace Guru Granth Sahib jee with huge love and respect as all the solutions to the problems of world r there!! Ssa ji wahaguru ji ka kahlsha wahaguru ji kee fhatey. And 5 Ks all part of sikes all we need to learn the meanings of then we know .why all this is part of us .like some carry kurpan to kill or protect them self but gurus sirrey sahib is not only to protect your self it's if need to protect needy as well.
5 ks is Sikhs hukam both the identity of a Sikh is very important and bani inside bani and Maryada is gurus teaching as a Sikh you follow the Guru not your own mind we gotta fight the mind battles of maya.

I’ve always had faith but could not understand Gurbani-the translations made no sense until I finally ran into one of your UA-cam videos last year. Prior to this I was finding peace through many other resources such as “power of now “ I feel more proud to be a Sikh bc it aligns with my inner spirit and values. Thank you 🙏🏼 can’t believe that I’ve barely learned what waheguru means in my mid 50’s.

Wow, finally found someone who has the same interpretation of omkar. I as a Sikh never thought of “god” as a being, but rather a universal energy that is omnipresent and I believe just as Sikh don’t fully understand this neither do the Hindus understand this. We are all interpreting our own religious teaching through the understanding of the western interpretation snd understand. So good for you to talk about that…if we mess up on the 1st line of the Granth then how can we fully comprehend the teaching in the rest of it. 🙏🏼

this the thing that is lagging behind, all of us needed to be aware of the way of understanding as the guy is explaining, it's just wonderful. and there is one more thing that our Sikh religion nowadays is going in a different direction that is not peoples fault but the way in what they delivered the things since they born really matters, but obviously not like this guy, we have a treasure in our hand and due to conventional way of thinking we are finding it somewhere else.
