Ah, the wonderful Mr. Symarip, Roy Ellis. I had the privilege and honour of doing sound for him at a skinhead reunion gig in Brighton. A consummate professional, one of those rare artists who just has the audience eating out of the palm of his hand by the end of the first number. I love gigs by these old ska and rocksteady troopers. The best I ever saw was Desmond Decker.. not much over five feet tall, dressed in a red leather pimp’s suit (including fedora!). He worked the room into an absolute frenzy. So glad I got to see him before he passed 🙂❤️
I saw Desmond Dekker in Norwich in around 1971 I would guess (I was thirteen then). He had a white suit on, standing in a black circle, and he knelt down at one point, got up with a black knee! Loved these artists and still do.
I remember attending my first ska show! Nothing but good vibes! Wrapping arms with a complete stranger, dancing just feeling the vibe of the music! Crazy how I remember this after 20 years!
Now we’re talking…I remember my Jamaican parents playing their 7” records back in the day with that beautiful ska beat and them doing these dances moves and later in the 80’s I became a Mod
I ain't even a skin or in any od the adjacent scenes except for punk, my interest in the scene has been recent, but theres something that warms my heart about seeing the trad and sharp scenes living their life independent of bones and the stigma they brought from the rest of the world seeing only the bones.
Oh wow! This is so cool to see Symarip still niceing up the place. °*°*°* Used to have your LP back in 1986. Even then it was a re-issue, I believe. Keep doing your thing man, making people happy. (#.^)

It is funny but I still remember all of those interesting times that me and my mates used to put on our boots , whilst none of us had doc Martens we did have some kinda el cheap combat boots ... at any rate , ok so we would get out and do all sorts of shenanigans and what not . Sometimes I really miss my shinegengans I mean shening ing gangues or whatever the term is ... oh well thx for allowing my input on your vids ... really nice and all of that stuff and oh yeah , hey I did finally get some of the better boots , not quite the dieter Martens but very close .... ok that is it ... thx again . The English have continually had such cool movements. From Teds. To Mods, to skins to punks, etc. From an admiring very old Yank
You mean they borrow the moves and moves from Jamaica, Ska belongs to Jamaica.
