- My cover of John Lord’s organ solo on ‘Highway Star’. Always loved this solo and turns out it works great with two string sweeps. Tabs available on the 'short' video version on my channel page.

I never imagined a guitarist can play this John Lord's solo masterpiece so perfectly. I even closed my eyes to get more enjoyment.. flawless. I can play it on keyboard.. and on guitar too but far from smooth and flawless. Thanks bro. Marvelous

Matt Matt Matt, I just found this video a few minutes ago. Never heard of you before. I love John Lord and everything about DP. You do his B3 solo justice. Exact playing with no clams. Then I went fishing for more of you. The Michael Romeo solo (I am a huge Symphony X fan) you played top notch. I am also a big Paul Gilbert fanatic. You kick butt on Racer X, and the Nuno solo since everything Nuno does is just beautiful. You play Nuno with such precision (and good tone). You are absolutely fantastic, wherever you are. Perhaps Russia? Either way, much appreciation and respect to you from Burbank California (and most of USA). Rock on you master musician maniac!!!

That right hand during the initial arps is literally a smoothly flowing river. Amazing. Your arrangement is different to mine as well, but that's tbe really.
This organ aolo was one of the pieces of music which made me want to play guitar as a kid, way back before I realised what different instruments even were 'cause I was just jammin' at 3 years old. Took me another 10 to pick up an instrument and another 10 before I could attempt this solo. Nowadays I can play it OK, but I'll probs never get it as effotless as you do. I'm fine w/ that though. I like wrestlin' my instrument.

The descending 4's are the hardest part. Specially if you pick everything. Did you sneak any legato in there? I can't really tell. It's really smooth though.
Cheers, about 95% picking. Definitely harder to pick it all, although I like how it sounds with some legato thrown in!
@@MattGWalters Yeah. I do the same, I don't know this solo specifically but I play that pattern with a combination of legato and hybrid picking. It's going back to the top string when the pattern starts again that fucks up the picking. Haha
Pretty cool, I think good keyboardists can probably write on average more melodic solos, simply because the keys are laid out in a linier progressive manner, and things tend to scale up and down more naturally, pretty clever to try it on guitar. Thinking about it, allot of Richie's solos are very similar to the keyboard solo style in Deep Purple :P I'm pretty sure he learned allot more about writing solo's from Jon Lord then he would like to admit.
keyboard or guitar is not what makes music. it is the musician.
I think playing keyboard solos on guitar is a good exercise for those reasons - it forces us out of the usual 'guitar' shapes!

Amazing. However, in some parts, it sounds like the keyboard is doing power chords and i think it would sound amazing if you did that in the guitar version as well
You should challenge. Changing the sound with a guitar synthesizer. I want to change it to the sound of a Hammond organ.

The variable scale guitar is interesting in itself as an instrument, and the sound is not presented to the right extent. It's a pity.

False, in that moment I changed my pickup selector, while doing legato with my left hand. You can even hear the acoustic sound of the guitar strings and pickup selector if you listen carefully ;-)

Explain how? It's literally just a phone recorded video of me playing with the song. There's just extended parts with hammer ons/ pull-offs.
