Lyrics:
Even though I'm in love
Sometimes I get so afraid
I'll say something so wrong
Just to have something to say
I know the moment isn't right
To tell the girl a comical line
To keep the conversation light
I guess I'm just frightened out of my mind
But if that's how I feel
Then it's the best feeling I've ever known
It's undeniably real
Leave a tender moment alone
Billy Joel's official UA-cam channel features music videos, live performances, interviews, TV appearances and more. Best known for his first hit song, 'Piano Man', in 1973, Billy has written and recorded thirty- three Top 40 hits in the United States. He is a six-time Grammy Award winner, a 23-time Grammy nominee and one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 150 million records worldwide. Billy Joel is the sixth-best-selling recording artist and the third-best-selling solo artist in the United States.
Someone played this too much at a medical conference in House M.D for Wilson that he threw a wine bottle at a large mirror. Honestly, I really appreciate this song. Then again, I like all of Billy Joel’s songs.
That's why I'm here
Lol. The comment on top turns out to be exactly why I'm here. I agree with Dr. Wilson. I don't like this song. But there are only a few of his songs that I like anyway. Mostly just the radio hits.
I came here straight from that episode because I was curious. 😂
What episode is?
i think if i were pissed at getting served divorce papers and someone next to me was playing this over and over, i would go crazy too. it's an ok-to-good billy joel song but there's only so many times i can stomach it on repeat. three, maybe?
Medical convention in New Orleans. This song plays in a bar, a fight starts. One doctor breaks an antique mirror, another one bails him out. The greatest friendship is born.
A constantly repeating, infuriating romantic love ballad, about how you shouldn’t constantly ruin serious moments with sarcastic one liners because you’re afraid of being emotionally intimate …….sounds like poetic foreshadowing to me. Run Wilson, run! The song is trying to warn you 😂
me tomo 20 años para saber el interprete de esta melodia su titulo pues la escuchaba en estereo rey la maxima dimencion del radio
Billy doesn't get enough credit as a truly great singer. It's his songwriting and song sensibilities or piano playing but he is a brilliant, heartfelt vocalist.
Fr my friends and I were arguing who was better Elton John or billy Joel and it’s all about the marketing billy has way more hits and better skills but the gay British guy gets more publicity rather than the middle class New York man huh?
I agree
You are absolutely correct. He wrote all of his songs. He was my childhood favorite singer. I still love to listen to his music.

Billy Joel's music is for all generations.
Damn right!!
Except the one’s before it came out. But only because they’ve never heard it.
@@dumpster_mcgee_96 Billy Joel is a baby boomer. My mother is from the silent generation (the generation before the baby boomers), and she likes Billy Joel's music.
ConsumerWarrior I know. I was intending that as a joke (because a lot of older people hate music that came after their generation), but I see that my point got lost in translation and I apologise for any inconvenience I caused you.
I wasn't born until 1984. Billy Joel is my favorite artist of any music genre! His stories, his music, lyrics, the connection, it's incredible.
African-American guy here, I can't seem to get enough of this song. I simply LOVE IT!!!
Dude no one cares that you're black just say you like the song
Billy's our Stevie Wonder - but his eyes work.
@@MatthewMaulwurf Preach!
Good music is just that...good music
+Derrick Crawford - The whole An Innocent Man album that this song is from is a homage to the music Billy grew up listening to in the 50s and 60s and this particular song is a nod to Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.
BILLY JOEL AND TOOTS THIELMANS ON HARMONICA… THEY REALLY MAKE A SUPERB DUO. “LEAVE A TENDER MOMENT ALONE” IS ANOTHER ONE OF BILLY’S TUNES THAT I JUST DON’T HEAR ON RADIO ANYMORE… AND I WANT TO CHANGE THAT. Kenneth Huang. 2/2-24.
Toots Thielmans
The most brilliant harmonica player in history.
You will be terribly missed.
yes.
Yes he will 😭
Definately
No. Joke.
Midnight Cowboy Theme makes me teary eyed. So does the theme for The Gary Coleman Show.
Finally, a song that expressed I'm not the only dork in the world who messes up romantic moments!! Lol
You and me both...
Was this 1984?
Jenson Oliver lol welcome to the club
I used to be the same way.
Damn same ):
The bridge of this song (“But it’s not only me...”) is a work of brilliance. Great chord progression and interesting changes blended perfectly back into the verse.
He is definitely a master in bridges!
you noticed,cool!
I was thinking this just now as I revisited this song for the first time in ages. My other favourite bridge writer is Donald Fagen.
It's a magnificent song.

And Then... Wilson Broke an antic mirror to meet House...
I wonder why Wilson got furious. This's such a nice song.
His Wife wanted the divorce... So... He was all alone that time...
The show House make a reference to the song
I also looking for this song because of that scene!
OMG! What a wonderful, lovely answer. :)
Sad you never hear this on the radio anymore.
Nowadays, all you get is crap. The music industry is brainwashing people into liking crappy music because of corporate greed and too much laziness to make good music. Also, I think they’re letting untalented singers in as a way to make people ignorant so they’re easier to control.
Not since 1986ish...
I guess they occasionally played this all the way up to early 90s? Still quite awhile ago
On 3MP u do
I just heard this the other day in Walgreens. That' s why I' m here listening to it now.☺
One of Billy Joel's most underrated songs. They'll play "It's still Rock and Roll to me" until U want to puke and hardly ever play this gem.WTH???
Dan Ward was he married to Christy Brekley at the time
like 10CC forever plays dreadlock holiday or not in love
That means you never worked in a pharmacy in the 1980's where they played soft rock radio tunes for shoppers and had to listen to this one over and over while processing deliveries...I was a teen who attended only hard rock concerts at the time and just hated this song and all the others on soft rock radio. But now it's alright. Billy Joel is one of those acts I never appreciated in youth.
I couldn't have said it better. Definitely one of his most underrated recordings
This is a damn good gem, you're right. I wouldn't mind hearing "sleeping with the television on" and "I don't want to be alone" more often, either
Billy Joel is truly a musical treasure. As a kid, I always loved his music. Now that I' m older and have lived a little more, I really appreciate his music more than ever.
Same here. I didn't realize just how brilliant he is/was until I got older. I think Leave a Tender Moment Alone is my favorite; all aspects of this song are ...if not absolute then very close to... Perfection.

Billy Joel
Even though I'm in love
Sometimes I get so afraid
I'll say something so wrong
Just to have something to say
I know the moment isn't right
To tell the girl a comical line
To keep the conversation light
I guess I'm just frightened out of my mind
But if that's how I feel
Then it's the best feeling I've even known
It's undeniably real
Leave a tender moment alone
Yes I know I'm in love
But just when I ought to relax
I put my foot in my mouth
'Cause I'm just avoiding the facts
If the girl gets too close
If I need some room to escape
When the moment arose
I'd tell her it's all a mistake
But that's not how I feel
No that's not the woman I've known
She's undeniably real
So leave a tender moment alone
But it's not only me
Breaking down when the tension gets high
Just when I'm in a serious mood
She is suddenly quiet and shy
Leave a tender moment
Leave it alone
I know the moment isn't right
To hold my emotions inside
To change the attitude tonight
I've run out of places to hide
And if that's how I feel
Then it's the best feeling I've even known
It's undeniably real
Leave a tender moment alone
You got to leave a tender moment alone

he takes all of us back to the 50's with the charm of the 80's to last well into the 21 st century. He's new yorker and nonetheless universal. only Billy Joel can do it.

So romantic........I miss my hubby, we used to listen to Billy Joel when we were dating...."It's The Best feeling Ive Ever Known,........ So Leave a Tender Moment Alone". One day soon I will see him again and I will have to play a Billy Joel album!!
What happened to him?
Oh nothing, he's always been that way!! He is a wonderful man who I did not appreciate and divorced, we are working our way back to marriage...it's a good thing!!
Jeanie Hammond
That's great! I hope it works out :)
Thanks so much, (I always liked that line..."he's always been that way" when someone asks "what happened to him?" Didn't mean to insinuate an accident or death. Things are better since I posted this song! Thank you Jesus!!
Jeanie Hammond Haha, yeah, I thought he had died or something--glad he's OK and things are better.
I am 38 and I am discovering Billy Joel. Everyday is a new gift. This song is inmediately in my special favourites repertoir. It's amazing.
Musical perfection if there is such a thing. This is my favorite Billy Joel track because of the honesty in the lyrics, the haunting melody, and the musical accuracy. Portrays the awkwardness of romantic discourse very nicely. Actually this whole album I believe it was AN INNOCENT MAN is terrific, almost every track. Great memories from the 1980s. :)
Marc Spector Exactly how I perceived it. I’ll try to find the album...
Ditto thanks Marc
Innocent Man was the first Billy Joel album I bought in 1984. I bought it again as part of a 10 LP album box set in early 85, then again on CD a few years later. Still have the box set and that 2nd LP that has never been played.

My little slavic wife is so sweet and when I hear this song I cry every single time thinking of her and how kind hearted she is to her patients. God needed her and she's doing so well in her career. The best songs ever are the ones where the artists ignore the mainstream and do their own thing. My opinion.
This is my favorite Billy joel song. I like that melancholy effect.
That Harmonica still gives me goosebumps after all these years! My personal fave!
Awesome song. The late great Toots Thielemans on harmonica. Toots also plays harmonica on Julian Lennon's Too Late For Goodbyes.
This is my favorite from Billy. Brothers, leave her tender moments alone. At 61 I'm starting to understand women: they are so precious and need the assistance of a real man. Peace...
Billy Joel is a gift. Love this man - love this talent.
This is a really good song. It simply describes the way a man gets scared, especially when a relationship starts. If the girl gets too close to the man,he runs off and finds a particular hiding place. Afterwards the man realizes that he has nowhere else to hide. He's expressing his emotions of fright.
In my opinion this album is the best out of all his albums. This is the album I continue to listen too in full
Billy Joel is simply magical... this is one of the most emotive songs ever, and it never gets old... whenever i hear it it puts me into a good place..... love it... love it.... love it
How can you not like this ?
A truly beautiful and vulnerable love song. Way to go Billy.
Very Vulnerable
Doesn't sound at all like a 1983/1984 hit, you can tell how Billy was giving serious props to the 1950s doo wop style he grew up with and made a timeless, beautiful song
Been searching for this song for 2 days...RIP to the ones that love it, still searching and can't find it....😳😳😳

This song is a masterpiece just for the chord changes. Leave the brilliant melody alone. Still gives me goose bumps
A song to be listen in a dim light room and a glass of wine...and good company.
This is Big Time Billy, his greatest song. And he has tons.
Boy that song brings back a lot of memories from 40 years ago, and very relevant for me today. I relate it to my 38 year marriage. No matter how long you are married, in the heat of tension; it becomes a cheap commodity to be thrown in the trash. "But that's not how I feel"
