Great honest review Rob, you really went into "the reasons for" around that knife. Incidently, third video in a row without any f#!*ing swearing ! Are you aiming for the american market ? Hee . . .hee.
Just got the lionsteel T6 in K490. Holy 💩 that is a bear to sharpen. Not sure what they're running it at but it feels hard AF & is rather abrasion resistant. Even a 300 grit diamond plate took like half an hour to slightly thin the edge out. (Over an hour to fully sharpen & strop) It's CPM-3V on steroids but 3V is far easier/quicker to sharpen.
there's a replacement coming at some point , more suitable steel and a sabre grind , a scandi was mentioned but l think the blade is too long in my opinion for a scandi.
Thank you for the honesty, as always! I completely get what you’re saying about steel differences, both in use and sharpening. I sharpened a Helle Temagami in 14c28n yesterday on whetstones. It was not a pleasant experience. It was really hard getting a burr, and when I finally got it the damn thing was so stubborn to deburr. The knife got sharp in the end, but I have sharpened 3V, Elmax and MagnaCut with much greater ease. I’m not saying all 14c28n is that way, but this example must have had some funky heat treat to mess up the microstructure in the steel. 14c28n is supposedly a quality fine-grained steel.
@@RobEvansWoodsman In my opinion the quality isn’t there. It’s a waste of money. The quality control and the fit and finish is shit. I’m in Norway and see a lot of Norwegians complaining about Helle.
@@RobEvansWoodsman Moonraker sell the blade blanks for £37, I've been tempted but the tang isn't full size in depth - and I don't really have the tools to cut a half depth channel into a handle so I never bothered. I didn't know they were 14c28, they're advertised as triple laminated.

Too bad the knife didn’t work out as a bushcrafter. Maybe changing the grind will make it an acceptable utility/survival knife. Perhaps the best role for all blades of this length. Looking forward to the review of the Woodsman…
Great vid as usual sir. The finish on that knife looks classy - shame about the grind and steel - you'll sort it out though I'm sure. Does your buddy not want a scandi putting on it? 👌 Great review Rob, as alwsys. To my limited knowledge SF100 is a surgical steel, so maybe not so good for a knife for field use. I like the knife profile and length though. 👍 It's closer to 13c26 by the way.
Nice vid Rob,SF100 seems to be equal to AEB-l which a well known knife maker in the UK uses a lot nowadays and promotes it a lot too but to me it also looks to be nothing special to talk about let alone to have a knife made out of it, that sheath is great tough😃
