Thanks very much for this invaluable video! I have watched (and helped) while a local garage did the pumping up a couple of times, but now have my own hand-held pump - I hope it's going to work!
You should be rolling and jouncing the suspension before taking measurements. Ideally you should roll and jounce then press down on the suspension and take a measurement. Repeat, but this time lift the vehicle up by hand and take another measurement. Now add the two measurements together and divide by two. This will give you the average.
Thanks for the video. However, I cannot clearly see the measurement between the center of the wheel hub and the start of the fender. Would you please indicate it to me in centimeters? Owned a 2000 MG F Thank you
I got to buy one of thease liguid levers pumps for my project car need to find the right fluid for the job. My main worry is my mg has been sat on its bumpstops for around 12 years are there any potential risks in trying to lift it now?
Hi, Just asking as an alternative, can coil suspension be used on an mgf 1996.If so,can you recommend the types and specs. My mgf is overseas and have no access to pump up hydragas. Please advise.Thank you watson
Hi there, Yes indeed it can. We stock a very good range of conversion kits that are listed here: www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID018917 Hope that helps.
There is now a kit available, consisting of shock absorbers and progressive springs. But, it's very expensive. I recently found a couple on ebay for between 999 and 1200 Pounds Sterling which, in my view, is quite a bit, considering that shock absorbers are parts subject to wear and eventual replacement. Theoritically, the best solution, in my view, would to somehow adapt the pump, fluid reservoir and level regulator from a Citroen onto older MGFs. Anyone designing a kit of this sort could then justify a high price for a system which should deliver dependable service for the entire life of the car. The ride would be comfortable and the handling simultaneously sporty
Please see the reply below to this question that you have already asked ;) Though, as it happens, we now do a full replacement Hydragas sphere kit. They are reconditioned and refilled with gas. You send us your undamaged, uncrushed old spheres as a part exchange. The part number on our website at rimmerbros.com is RP1974R
hello i have a MGF and I have problem with the right hand hydrolastic suspension, put liquids to get up and loses the liquid, from which you will now be is the leakage, has no point you will now do to my problem ????
Hello. I am sorry but you cannot get a replacement hydrolastic suspension part. They do not make them anymore. We do sell a full replacement Suplex suspension kit though.
Thank you for the tutorial video. I have just tried pumping up my Allegro using a pump very similar to that one but there was no resistance when pumping the lever up and down and no fluid was pumped into the car. I thought the pump was faulty. However, watching this video it seems the valve on the pump has to be open while you are pumping? Perhaps that's why I had no resistance? I had the valve closed on the pump to prevent all the fluid from the car leaking into the pump reservoir. The pressure on the gauge showed 250psi. Did I do it wrong? Should I have opened the valve before I tried pumping? Thanks, Martin
You are correct. Hydragas suspension indeed. That uses hydrolastic fluid. Thank you for your input and appreciating the effort that goes into our free videos.
@@nickyjames8550 If the membrane between the gas and hydrolastic fluid is intact, then all you are doing is replacing the fluid. If the membrane is damaged or perished, then you need either a second hand sphere or to send it to a company that refurbishes them.

someone knows where can i make this repair in Madrid?? I am having a hard time finding a workshop to do it.
Interesting. My 1984 Austin Metro had Hydragas suspension.
Did it feel different from a car with steel springs?
Dream Diction they dont
Yes, it did. It felt a lot better, like you were riding on fluids. I noticed when I replaced with a Nissan Micra.
But how do you replace the Hydro Gas ?

Hi,great and clear video. But,for the rear side of the car????
The front and rear spheres on each side are connected by pipework, so there are only the two valves shown, one per side.
How to do the opposite?? Please someone
there are onlynthose two valves. front and rear are connected.

Is the rear the same? Where is the rear gas valves?
front and rear are cinnected by pipe. there are only those two valves.
Does anyone know of a garage in London or south east that has this pump for service?
MGF's and other cars with hydrolastic suspension was like a bouncy castle.
MGF didn't have hydrolastic suspension!
Si può ascoltare in italiano
It's not hydrolastic suspension , it's hydragas suspension, the same as a Austin Allegro
