The two of them are really incredibly likeable and I like their idea of preserving cars that cost almost nothing today and that practically no one wants anymore for posterity. Hopefully their business model works. PS: There used to be cars that no one wanted anymore and today they are sought after and expensive. It's good that there were people like these two back then.
Excellent! You guys are real pros. I felt sorry for Will when he had to change the belt. I was worried he would stumble on to some else to ruin his day. Bravo! From Canada.
After Long bridge closed its doors for the final time, Rover went out with a bang with the MGF Roadster. It’s definitely an underrated classic British sports-car. 🇬🇧
Great to see you guys back to me a more interesting program than someone else on the sky channel good luck to you hope you can carry on now you’re back.
I think it was a fair deal considering how much work went into bringing it back to life. Also nice that it didn’t end up on a scrap heap or being broken up for parts. A British expat watching in Florida.
Ein super Film über ein super Auto habt ihr da gemacht. Filmisch sehr gut , der Schnitt und die Perspektiven spitze , die Musik passt auch und das was da zum Schluß zu sehen ist ...Wow ein tolles Auto
Ha! I've thought the same thing more than once ^^ The best part about Wheeler Dealers was and remains Edd. Mike was always incredibly annoying and didn't really contribute shit.
Wow, I recently got one myself in a similar spec. Spheres, soft top or at least rear window and timing belts needs replacing. This video gave a great insight on what I'm in for, thanks!
Funny how all the workies they visit are just hanging around in the workshop (as usual) but actually get down to doing things straight away instead of sucking in a chestfull of air between their teeth and telling you that they've got too much work, but come back in a week ! LOL. 33:40 - The fat geezer just cracks straight on with getting a glass back window on then and there ..... Tv shows vs reality. Great. And does he REALLY want you to believe that the zips don't match on some cars and he doubles his time (drinking a cup or two of tea) that he makes the client pay for ...... MG weren't fantastic, but there is no way that a zipo would change - they are all made to the same specs. Imagine the nightmare at the factory having to match the right ones up !
Wow. good result chaps ! I actually have a K series 1800 in my Freelander which is pissing out water, so please check the heating on these cars !!!!!!!!!
I have had the pleasure of using one of these as a donor car years ago, for my VVC metro conversion, what they normally did to do the belts on these, was drop the rear Subframe down. To make life that much easier for access. Only about 6 bolts or some thing holding that in place. Lift the body up and your laughing. But still not the easiest cars to work on though. he said the suspension is simple, to work on. yeah if you have a suspension pump for it. Not many garages have the pump for those now, i would have thought, which will explain why it was just mothballed, when the system failed. Where i live, only about 1 garage i believe still had the suspension pump, i decided to buy my own, for the sake of ease. Fluid i remember been about £15 so its expensive to buy, for what it is. I have heard back in the metro days garages who had the pumps, charging practically peanuts to about a £10. Rover only charged me £30 quid at the time, to do my very 1st metro. I remember one of the lads getting his arse handed to him, when one of the lads he was buying bits off him, charging him £70! to blow the suspension up. i was like you have been done there buddy.
MAY 2024 Nice to see Flipping Bangers, with Will and Gus back on our TV screens for a third series. More series to follow I hope too. Keep on saving the old bangers, that no one else wants to do too. 🇬🇧Ⓜ️🇬🇧👍🚘🚗🚘👍🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
The MGF and MG TF are great cars, and are an affordable way into modern classic cars. The MG Car Club has an MGF Register which is a very active group, and within that many of the local areas such as the Thames Valley area have monthly meetings, drive outs, and other great activities. At the last MG even at Silverstone, MGFs/TFs were the largest number of MGs there.
I remember watching these arrive at Pride of Longbridge. A gent shouted at me “ this is the lowest mileage MGF in the UK. Seconds later it was surrounded by steam as a heater hose blew. Good old British Cars
I have one(a TF) and I have spent a fair amount on bringing back to life and reliability. Just remember it was BL's last hurrah and they were raiding the parts bin to keep the costs down so to get to any part to refurbish or repair you have to just about dismantle the whole car. If you can cope with that it is a very rewarding beast to drive. Goes round corners as if on rails and does have a fair degree of fun to drive..Mine has the 135 hp engine and it goes well.
Did the cambelt on mine by undoing the 2 engine mount bolts and lowering the engine on a jack by an inch. Old belt slips through the gap, new belt slips through the other way, jack engine back up and put the 2 bolts back in then finish fitting the new belt. Disappointed to see the hydragas spheres weren’t refurbished though, not gonna be any nitrogen left in the top of those things after 27 years.
Great job you did on this little MGF chaps, our one Down Under is green in colour and wow, how we would love the glass rear screen for her. I reckon the postage cost would be frighteningly rude!
The lads couldn't possibly have bought the worst MGF in the UK because I have that one in my garage! It's become an "I've started so I'll finish" project. In hindsight, it should've been parted out. However, I've spent money on it now, I've made a start restoring it, so I need to see it through.
Another brilliant series unfortunately they had to move as the banging & power cutting of old rusted steel had the neighbours up in arms......geez . Good shows boys.
Is this series over with are you guys still doing fresh videos? Really enjoyed them just came across them couple days ago getting through UA-cam what a gem.
Their biggest mistake previously was not detailing including machine buffing first then with a proper camera taking HQ pictures showcasing the car. I learned that when selling on Facebook marketplace, everything always sold fast for my price.
I agree. You can polish money into a car, likewise you can photo money into a car. I also feel as though they just accept the first bid. I would have told that guy "no" to his lowball offer.
I designed the sunvisors for that car made in Cradley Heath in a Factory full of ladies. Later the steering wheel and later still the suspension - hydragas
Have to ask . Rather than taking the old roof & having the glass window installed for 350 , would it not have been more economical to purchase the whole roof from one of the parts vehicles shown ? Could also get the wiring & switch for the heating elements.
You sound surprised how these pair of clowns work, They reliably demonstrate how to do things the hard and awkward way. I watch this comical pair to learn how not to do things correctly. 🤡🤡
Ye I bought one nearly new. Had it 3 years it was on its 3rd engine by the time I got rid. It was the VVC version so when it did go correctly it was fast but that was not very often.
When the rag top was being cleaned, it already had a glass screen in it but when the took the rag top off to be fitted with glass, it had a flexible screen.
The buyer came on the train from Yorkshire with only 2500 quid in his pocket. He shouldn't have been surprised if they'd told him to use his return train ticket and go back home
Just had a thought the MGF had sat for 7 years but I don't recall it getting new tyres and no mention of the cam belt tensioner and that is normally changed same time as cam belt and the change time is 6 years OR 60,000 miles. Mine had done only around 3,000 miles but it had been just over 6 years so it was changed and mine got new tyres as well again due to age.
Of course there is no need to remove that alloy support and in fact have just renewed the cam belt, tensioner and water pump on my own MGF without removing it just undo the top engine mount and lower the engine a bit on a jack to slip the belt passed it the lift engine on jack and align the bolts of the mount I though only had main one to do as mine is an MPi not a VVC. Am currently removing the hydragas spheres as they are going to be sent away for re-gassing as the right height has sunk by just over 30mm and just keeping pumping more fluid in does not help the ride quality as of course the fluid does not compress that is the gases job. Also those front wings not being rusted could help save another car.
I did enjoy this series even though the show is completely fake, sadly they really struggled to sell the show to any network and discovery turned there noses up at the production team because they previous produced Wheeler Dealers before the Mike Brewer bust up
It showed (mostly) the types of repairs you and I would do on the road or driveway, it wasn't a pretentious show. And like us, if we couldn't fix it easily, we may decide to bin it off. I've lost track of the amount of cars ,I've done bits of work to, changing exhaust parts or brake pads, just to keep the car going for a few months until the Russian roulette game which is the MOT test. 😮
According to the VOSA website, P206FBW failed the MOT on 29/06/2021 (after being SORN and off the road for 7 years) on rear brake pads, Headlight aim and a restraint system warning light. Advisory Notice: Rear brake discs worn, pitted, scored.👍
Oil , oil filter, air filter & spark plugs weren't changed despite the car not running for years. It would have been nice to have seen the MOT test and any advisories. Suppose, we can't expect too much from a 'reality' show.
Until I watched this I’ve always hated the TF. This has changed my mind a bit. Not sure I would buy one but I’ll give credit where it’s due. It did come up really well.
Had mgtf for 18 months, typical the gasket went, when fixed then blew the the bottom hose. Couldn't trust it so got rid, but was a lovely ride and economical. The prices they band around seem optimistic. 2k top wack not knowing if it has the modded gasket or not.
hold on... the seller said they couldn't test-drive it as it had no MOT and now they're out on the open road with it 5 days later 🤔 mb they are invisible 😅
just bought an mg tf 02 1.8 roof leakes also had a front end knock its a project but payed £500 so glad iv watched this my engines good but its also rough on the exterior insurance values them on a private sale as £570 surely this cant be right also expensive to insure over £1000
In Britain, an MOT is a test which, by law, must be made each year on all road vehicles that are more than 3 years old, in order to check that they are safe to drive......for those of us who didn't know fenders are called wings.
They're certainly appealing, little underpowered but you can improve a little with aftermarket bolt ons such as K&N air filter, exhaust and electronic devices, apparently they are capable of around 85mph maxed out but a limited is built in ECU 🙄😊

Blow me, when Will arrived at Trophy Cars he stood in front of my red MGTF that I had bought from them and then a few years later sold it back to them as I just wasn't using it enough, what a coincidence....
Not the standard interior (doorpanels, behind the seats, so called t-bar), suits the car really well. This hydragas pump needs to have the vacuum setting, as you need to suck the air out if this kind of work was done on the hydragas system. Not all of them have that option. Having a broken front sphere is quite rare, most of the time it is one of the rear ones. For that kind of money (and in the UK), I would expect all 4 corners to have reconditionned/regassed spheres. Nice car, but for sure not the best one out there.
Really interesting video, shockingly wasteful world we live in especially as you suggested we can repair and get them back on the road with a much lower carbon footprint
I like this. It’s like wheeler dealers before it got posh and overly scripted. Obviously this is scripted and the “cheap” deals are a nudge and a wink, but hey they stop for a brew and get filthy, possibly get sticking plasters out every episode. Great stuff.
Never heard of a pre-Chinese MGF having aircon, that is a rare one if original. The MGF is rarer than the MGB, which is the one everyone wants to pay big money for.
Anyone wishing a silly roadster would prefer a more reliable Mazda MX-30/Miata. Yet, these folks prefer something gimmicky, unreliable and orphaned like MG badge. Very entertaining, laudable content!
When they first came on sale we went to the main dealer to look at buying one. The car in the showroom had several parts of the dash hanging out. We sat in it and it felt very cheap. Left the dealer and bought a second hand SLK which we kept for years and was a great car.
It's good to see the modern-day recycling ♻️ of this vehicle. I love the videos. Keep them coming, guys
Excellent! You guys are real pros. I felt sorry for Will when he had to change the belt. I was worried he would stumble on to some else to ruin his day. Bravo! From Canada.
I love these boys. They're always going home.
Genuinely pleasant channel with no BS.
Very underrated cars. We bought one as a bit of a summertime laugh, ended up spending money on it and keeping it for years.
After Long bridge closed its doors for the final time, Rover went out with a bang with the MGF Roadster. It’s definitely an underrated classic British sports-car. 🇬🇧
I grew up around them as my mum and dad both had vvc models , now my brother has a tf which I clean for him every week
Great to see you guys back to me a more interesting program than someone else on the sky channel good luck to you hope you can carry on now you’re back.

Good restoration, guys. An enjoyable watch.
Just discovered this series on Amazon. Fun show with the huge bonus of not having Mike Brewer on it.
Lol 🎉

Had the VVC engine head gaskets x2 cam belts you name it, it was a nightmare but when its was running well it was a quick unit with good mpg
Nice 👍🏼 one well done lads 👏🏼👍🏼👊🏼🏴🇬🇧
Don't put the wings in the skip, someone could repaint them and use them.
I thought that. Maybe a can of primer over them then sell them

When he's jetting the roof you can see the heater elements in the rear window!😂
yeah. thought it was a bit funny when the window installer gave him advice of cleaning it and we'd just seen him jetwash it
Not the only case of poor continuity on this series.........but so what I guess haha
I didn't even realise season 3 was out 😂
Same as me till I came across on utube, Normally watch on ordinary 📺

would be interesting to see how you go with these cars on the MOT side as you do not say. But great job guys.
'MOT History'. It's all available online, free of charge to check yourself.
They also never did an oil or coolant change. Never checked the brakes either.

What about mot? Your telling me a 28 year old car that’s been sitting 7 years doesn’t need anything for Mot 😂😂😮😮

Obviously they don't show everything they do otherwise the video would be 5 days long.

I fitted the glass rear panel easy job.

Probably one of the most contrived feeling shows of this type....
hold on... the seller said they couldn't test-drive it as it had no MOT and now they're out on the open road with it 5 days later 🤔 mb they are invisible 😅
Quite surprised to see 2 older Protons at that dealership.
great show thanks ..... BUT when is the ramp going to be put up
Ginger Wolverine 😂
Gordon Ramsey’s inbred cousin..
Offroad Umbau?...... Jipppi!!!!!!!

Really i only pay £125 with Lancaster Insurance on a limited mileage policy. Was only £80 last year
In Britain, an MOT is a test which, by law, must be made each year on all road vehicles that are more than 3 years old, in order to check that they are safe to drive......for those of us who didn't know fenders are called wings.
They're certainly appealing, little underpowered but you can improve a little with aftermarket bolt ons such as K&N air filter, exhaust and electronic devices, apparently they are capable of around 85mph maxed out but a limited is built in ECU 🙄😊
Not much footage of the front of the car once done…..could that be because of the awful colour match against the different wings and bonnet?
more than likely
I love these MGFs, sadly I don't have one, when buying I chickened out and bought a MR2.
Lucky you mr2 would be 10 times a better car to buy
@@minidigger1000 Yes the MR2 is a great car, 25 years old and no problems with it, yet I have a soft spot the the MGF.
@@markm-ci6rj they are a good looking car but that is where it ends engine wise they are a disaster. The mr2 is strong reliable and a great car to drive I raced one for 3 years and then turned it into a rallycross car love them
Only buy1 if its your 2nd car because if it is your daily you better have your uber driver on speed dial !!!
@@chrisplummer5857 Wouldn't buy a 2 seater rag top as a daily, they are horrible in winter. My daily is an Alfa Romeo.
I brought an Mg tf 1.8 mk2 2002 with 98.000miles on clock with Hardtop for scrap value £200.
Cut akat off and sold for £380 then sold the hardtop for £150 then flogged the car as needed some welding and wishbones for £350
Blow me, when Will arrived at Trophy Cars he stood in front of my red MGTF that I had bought from them and then a few years later sold it back to them as I just wasn't using it enough, what a coincidence....
Suddenly feeling my age - I snickered when Gus said "I went to an MG garage..."
Did his generation forget what MG originally meant...?
He also went to the ATM machine but couldn’t remember his PIN number and the LCD display was broken.
No compression test or borescope analysis? Clutch perfectly good?
Really interesting video, shockingly wasteful world we live in especially as you suggested we can repair and get them back on the road with a much lower carbon footprint
I like this. It’s like wheeler dealers before it got posh and overly scripted.
Obviously this is scripted and the “cheap” deals are a nudge and a wink, but hey they stop for a brew and get filthy, possibly get sticking plasters out every episode. Great stuff.
Off: In Eastern Europe, the first two episodes were available, - Viasat Explore - now none of the TV companies invested in it? YT remained. 👍
Ive watched only around 8 episodes , but never seen them getting involved with the potentially nerve wracking MOT test ..Perhaps not the time.
Did anyone notice a shot of ROUND chrome tailpipes but the car had elliptical ones later !
Need to upgrade the head gasket
After rebuilding the wife VVC 3 times I gave up on these little "gems" ... fun when it was working but far from reliable 😆
There must be a ramp company willing to donate one for a bit of free advertising !
If they had a ramp they’d probably balls that up aswell. !!
Hows the back window cost more than the car?
Good little cars but my god 375 for a window he could have got a brand new roof with one for less
This particular car actually has a bit more extras than you think.
Never heard of a pre-Chinese MGF having aircon, that is a rare one if original. The MGF is rarer than the MGB, which is the one everyone wants to pay big money for.

I had a 6 month old TF160. Was fast back then. Terrible understeer
You had the wrong tyres on mate. The F is very picky. Toyo proxies (ask the owners club).
Did Will repaint his car or change to another vehicle with same model?
Different registration different car.
At what point did it pass it's MOT?
I think I saw them drive right past the MOT centre at one point...
Great job lads just wondering is there a toilet in the caravan for Will to shit into.
why on earth would you list a car before fixing it bad concept its like putting a finger in the air and guessing a price! other than that good show
Obviously haven't watched the previous two seasons 😂! They always do this.
@@azwads5126 I have watched all of the seasons i thought they would have learnt their lesson!
