  • Well I went out to visit my buddy Brad today to get some help with one of my engines and we decided to have some fun and drag out some of hit Hit Miss engines that have been siting for a while and fire them up! I learned the starting procedure in the progress and it was a lot of fun. I always liked these engines, but now I think I might just have to get my hands on one soon :)!

They are really cool! I am going to get my hands on a vertical one at some point soon! ( Although seeing as though I just bought a vintage truck, it might be a while lol!) Thanks for Watching!

Yea it is! I wish I owned it lol. I will have to get my hands on one at some point. They're cool even if you aren't into engines because all the mechanics are on the outside - There's a ton to look at. Most of the stuff I like and a decent chunk of the stuff I own is from before your time lol. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for Watching!

how think do you think the cylinder would have to be? i’m interested in making one someday when i finish my welding school

That's an interesting question! I honestly have no idea how thick the cylinder walls are on this engine, but I can say that on my 3HP Witte engine (video on this channel if you are interested) if you pull the head, on the surface of the engine and the head there is a good 3/8 to 1/2" of iron between the inside of the combustion chamber and the water hopper. Back then they overbuilt stuff though, so you could probably get away with less, but I do also believe in overbuilding instead of under building lol. That sounds like a really neat project! Keep me posted on it! Thanks for Watching!

For this short of a run I'll admit that the water was probably not needed, but in general even if they arent working I always keep water in mine! Also this video was made during the peak of COVID so both Brad and I wanted to be safe rather than sorry. So glad those days are behind up now.....
