It really helped in improving my knowledge. Thanks a lot. Could you please explain the difference between stable and unstable structures. Further what is P delta effect.
I am glad it helped. Regarding the P-delta effect, God willing, I will put it in my priorities to talk about it. In simple words, however, when the structure is loaded in the horizontal direction, it sways and its shape is changed. In a linear analysis, we analyze the structure using its original shape (before sway) In a P-delta analysis, we use the deflected shape of the structure in the analysis (thus the structure is weaker ) and this leads to an increase in the internal forces. In summary the P-delta is more exact, but the analysis is more complex.
High sir, while explaining link you took portal frame, you said that link beam will not have any vertical load. But there are chances that it may have some external load.
Of course any beam will have a vertical load on it ( at least self weight). However, if this load is small compared to other loads and can be ignored, then the beam can qualify as a link member and this will simplify the solution. If the vertical load can't be ignored, then the beam will not qualify as a link member and will be solved as an ordinary beam.
Amazingly Explained!!! Just awesome! Salute you respected Sir
Thank you for the nice comment
