Old Salem and downtown Winston are very interesting and fun! If you’re ever looking for something to do I recommend walking around there. There are plenty of small restaurants and businesses!

We are in the process of figuring out which areas in NC we’d like to move to, and Winston-Salem is on our top 5 for sure. I'm considering Wake Forest school of Medicine. I'm going to school in San Diego but I'm from Sacramento it sounds like the weather is very similar to that area except with more chance of snow.

Summers are hot and humid. Chances of snow aren't frequent in my 6 years of living here in a suburb of Winston Salem theres only been about 3 big snowstorms. They use saline on the roads to prevent icing, but it's not something you want to dive in and instead wait an hour or 2. The western side ofthe city is the nicer side

I have lived in Winston-Salem area for about a year and a half now, and this is a fair representation of the area. I'm from a place with colder winters and I find the winters I have experienced so far to be more comfortable than the summers. I'm from the arid West, so the warm-to-hot and humid summers here are uncomfortable to me, but winters are cool, drier and comfortable. Fall and spring are very comfortable. Home prices in the nicer parts of town are doing nothing but increasing, and, like he says, affordable homes still sell quickly despite the increased interest rates. Culturally this is still a Southern city. There are a huge number of people from other states/regions who live here, but it's still the South. If you don't like Southern culture, move elsewhere. Most Southerners I meet are nice people. Finally, carefully research where you're moving to here, and visit at least once before moving. I feel safe where I live, but the Winston-Salem are has some particularly violent regions. The number of murders (48) in Winston-Salem during 2023 was particularly high for that city. It's not Detroit or East St. Louis dangerous, but it's easy to get shot here in some parts of town. Like anyplace, it's not for everyone, but I recommend the area for most people.

Did a quick google search and it seems that Nc is slightly more humid than Texas as a whole but individual areas may vary

We moved here from Austin and we love the weather. It’s humid sometimes but it’s nothing like Texas with the 100+ degree days. Winter we wear mostly a hoodie or light coat.

We are currently thinking of moving from Florida. Our home here is valued at 400K, and we owe about 190K on it. We are thinking of selling and buying something for cash around $200K in Winston-Salem, living mortgage free. We can transfer our current jobs with the same employer to the area, so that isn't an issue.
Do you think this is possible?

Very possible, I have a couple from Sarasota that did something similar, they just closed last week. The biggest thing I’m making sure that we can match your needs for 200k. Newer upgraded townhome or condo 2-3 bedrooms, no prob. Older 3 br 1.5 bath maybe 2 bath with maybe half an acre that needs some cosmetics no prob out in the country . Something 3x2 in highly desired parts of the city that is either brand new or renovated is not going to happen in the 200k range.

@@movingtowinstonsalem8499 Thanks for the reply. A 3 bedroom would work best, not too fussy on the age or location as long it's in okay condition and a quiet area. We would need it within medium driving distance to stores etc.

I have people do both, some people really want to get to know the areas themselves and rent for 6-12 months first some people will come out and spend a week in an Airbnb seeing the areas before they buy, some people never see the home until they get the keys. It’s all based on your comfort level. If you can atleast visit the area before you pull the trigger. Because of this Channel I’m used to doing very thorough video walkthroughs of the homes and neighborhoods
