  • This idea was sparked by a tip I read in an 1869 agricultural newspaper. My Planet Whizbang Idea Book For Gardeners is available at this link: www.planetwhizbang.com/gardening

I wish I had made my tags closer to planting as I don't recall the dates I planted anymore -- but I do plan to tag my special trees and plants so the future owners will know what is what

I like the expanding curl idea to keep it on. Another source of cheap aluminium (yea, Brit English here) is used printer plates. A lot of printing is done digitally now, but some printers still use the plates (quite flexible and thin) for more fancy printing. The metal is thin enough to be able to write on it with a biro and impress the characters. It helps to use a softish cardboard underneath, or a few layers of paper.

I have that Boy Scout knife. It was purchased for me in the early 1990s. I will be passing it on to my son. 😊

Brilliant. So simple but effective. I'm sure there are other applications for this.

Very well timed advice HK, I am trying to make forever tags for my trees now. I bought your book about 6 months ago, I will have to revisit that section. Thank you for great videos. HK.

You could use a pop can or tall beer can as well if you wanted to go ultra cheap.

Maybe use roman numerals for the years? 2013 = MMXIII

One more thing, I am trying your grapes trellis idea from your Whizbang Idea book. I was buying materials but half way through the price of steel doubled in prices. I can't afford to finish it. I would love to see an updated "cheaper" trellis idea.

🤔 Perhaps you can find the materials cheap on Facebook Marketplace or CraigsList? Otherwise, I'm at a loss for a cheaper idea that will last for a very long time. But I'll think on it. 👍

Used my worn out aluminum work clipboard. Cut about 1x 2in pieces, stamped like you did , drilled a hole & make a large self locking loop with SS wire to hang on branches. If the branch gets thick I can move the tag. Thick alum tags will out last the tree.

I just love your channel. Your a genius. Everytime I need something you have a great idea. I have 40 acres here in Alabama and I want to save some trees that are naturally sprouting. I want be around to see them mature and I don’t want to bush hog them down and I have been looking for a way to mark them. I guess I will also to have to put some marking orange tape for visual when I am bushhogging. What type of trees do you have? God bless. Could you use a aluminum can and cut both ends off and cut at angle and use?
