Every song on this album is a musical seven-course meal followed by a cigar and a glass of fine Port by the fireplace and a big fluffy dog for company. Rest easy, Mick Lynch.
Stump, "A Fierce Pancake" (1988), an incredible album I bought many years ago in a popular street market. I didnt know anything about the group, just I was fascinated with the wonderfull cover. So, i bought it, cheap price. Then, I listened to it and I felt excited with this rare and original music. One rare pearl in my discography!!!.
I have this Album On cassette format somewhere in the attic. I Listened to it non-stop for about two months straight after it came out and know it like the back of my hand. Overtime my favourite song from the album has moved around but I think the picture this one paints is now very poignant, very melancholy and with the sad passing of Mr Mick Lynch a few years ago deserves to be remembered for its lyrical beauty. Thanks for posting.
Lyrics: [Verse 1] With alcohol I rule the world, with a little word And a meaning for motion I'd swallow the ocean My indiscretion takes ahold, my voice is heard In my own conversation My anger is ragin' [Chorus] But oh Feel the energy, oh Of the gravity, oh Here comes his majesty The man who would be king [Verse 2] With alcohol I rule the world, they shun my scorn And the strength of oration Commanding attention My intuition takes control, I look to my soul And by shear concentration I hammered that mountain [Chorus] But oh Hear the timpani, oh And then a symphony, oh Lay his majesty [Verse 3] With alcohol I lose control of those fleeting emotions I cling to the wall as I hide all my protest I laugh when I fall and I cry when I notice [Chorus] That oh There's no sympathy, oh It's a tragedy, oh There goes his majesty The man who would be- oh Where's the sympathy, oh It's a fallacy, oh It's my destiny, oh Where's the sympathy, oh There goes his majesty The man who could be king! (I couldn't find them anywhere online, So I had to write them out myself, Let me know if you think I got anything wrong, Especially unsure on the last line of the first two verses, And the last two lines of the second chorus.)
(with some minor corrections) Stump - Alcohol Lyrics: [Verse 1] With alcohol I rule the world, with a little word And a meaningful motion I'd swallow the ocean My indiscretion takes a hold, my voice is heard In my own conversation My anger is measured [Chorus] But oh Feel the energy, oh Of the gravity, oh Here comes his majesty The man who would be king [Verse 2] With alcohol I rule the world, they shun my scorn And the strength of oration Commanding attention My intuition takes control, I look to my soul And by sheer concentration Mohammed that mountain [Chorus] But oh Hear the timpani, oh And then a symphony, oh Lay his majesty [Verse 3] With alcohol I lose control of those fleeting emotions I cling to the wall as I hide all my protest I laugh when I fall and I cry when I notice [Chorus] That oh There's no sympathy, oh It's a tragedy, oh There goes his majesty The man who would be- oh Where's the sympathy, oh It's a fallacy, oh It's my destiny, oh Where's the sympathy, oh There goes his majesty The man who could be king!
Still have my vinyl from back in the day...creativity par excellence...an Irish bus that has to reverse uphill because it's overloaded...Kev...dear Kev...I wish I could do that!

what a beautiful song, it's a shame how criminally underrated this band is
Such a glorious song. 💜
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
With alcohol I rule the world, with a little word
And a meaning for motion
I'd swallow the ocean
My indiscretion takes ahold, my voice is heard
In my own conversation
My anger is ragin'
[Chorus]
But oh
Feel the energy, oh
Of the gravity, oh
Here comes his majesty
The man who would be king
[Verse 2]
With alcohol I rule the world, they shun my scorn
And the strength of oration
Commanding attention
My intuition takes control, I look to my soul
And by shear concentration
I hammered that mountain
[Chorus]
But oh
Hear the timpani, oh
And then a symphony, oh
Lay his majesty
[Verse 3]
With alcohol I lose control of those fleeting emotions
I cling to the wall as I hide all my protest
I laugh when I fall and I cry when I notice
[Chorus]
That oh
There's no sympathy, oh
It's a tragedy, oh
There goes his majesty
The man who would be- oh
Where's the sympathy, oh
It's a fallacy, oh
It's my destiny, oh
Where's the sympathy, oh
There goes his majesty
The man who could be king!

There was a time during college where I would listen to this song at least nine times a day. I can’t explain why, I just felt it.
Still have my vinyl from back in the day...creativity par excellence...an Irish bus that has to reverse uphill because it's overloaded...Kev...dear Kev...I wish I could do that!
