Thank you. The details you provided made it easy for my to get the latch assembly I purchased on Amazon installed. the preconfigured latch assembly simplifies things rather than just replacing the cables for not much more money. Your details on the manual lock rod and the electronic door lock actuator were very helpful. Attaching the one cable end to the outside door handle was a challenge for me. Door works perfectly now.
Good video. Very Helpful! I needed to know how to remove the panels and needed some tips on switching out the cables. Got everything I needed from your post. Thanks!!
these fords are such fun. anyone else waste days on this task? What messed me up is attempting to twist the electric lock arm onto the assembly (without removing it from the bracket in the door). I ended up bending critical parts and had to tear it all out, release the latch the hard way with a bent wire (bucket handle hook end) and repair all the mess on a vise where I could restore correct angles and closure gaps on the silly aluminum repair ends. And I've done this repair multiple times.
by the way, the Lock Solenoid will pop in & out of the bracket it swivels, don't go to the trouble of drilling the Rivet, I fixed my handle this weekend, opens nice inside/out, peace3ed
The door latch failures are too common on the Ford E-series vans. When the outside and inside passenger compartment handle fail the passengers cannot exit the vehicle. This is a dangerous safety hazard that NHTSA should be made aware of. In the case of an accident emergency responders cannot simply open the doors to save the injured passengers. Of course, emergency responders have all kinds of equipment to rip open the doors like the "Jaws of Life". But the point is that people are trapped inside when the passenger door handles fail. You all should report this dangerous problem to NHTSA to have them issue a recall to have Ford fix this endemic safety problem.
I’m sure you figure this out by now, but for anyone else finding this video (best one IMO), if the door will not open from inside or outside, there is a cable that runs from the inside handle. This cable is probably broken as well, see if you can trace your hand to the latch side and pull to manually activate that latch to open and push the door open when you do. The crux of it is the bottom panel cover will not fully come off until the side door opens so it’s a bollux.
I changed mine and somehoe ROYALLY SCREWED UP and my door wont open at all. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 I have both panels off and have manually pulled and pushed all the levers and triggers and rods and i messed something up!! I think it has to do with the lock and unlock metal rod. Now my back door rod snapped and yesterday my passenger door one did too. I am locked in!!! Everyone has to go through front driver door!!!!!

Very helpful! My interest was the cable connectors. I saved many screen shots. Thanks for posting this.
Glad it helped!

How do you open the door from the inside when the outside won't activate the latch and the cables are broken
