    Already a few comments about why i didn't use a cnc?!?!?: in life we have choices and each day we can do what ever we want to create any art we want. thats why. if i used CNC the first comments would be " my grand mother could do, that lets see you do it with out electricity and then i ll be impressed" .. it took 3-4 hours by hand. thank you

    Just think. A similar method to this was used in order to make all typeface stacks for the printing press machine created hundreds of years ago. More modern renditions of these black stacks are actually featured in the new movie The Post (which was pretty good) Doing this with a CNC machine could very well open up a block hole and kill us all. Handmade or never made! Good choice jimmy! It adds to the character of the chosen font and IMO just makes the piece mean more overall. I get the same feeling when I hand pull screen prints or etch a zinc plate for print making. It just feels better when your hands are involved! Thumbs up Jimmy!

  • @MrTumorHumor
    @MrTumorHumor 6 років тому +1

    Wow, running it through the table saw to create the straight edges on the typeface is such a good idea. Well done! I gotta try that

  • @jamesstanlake4064
    @jamesstanlake4064 6 років тому +7

    You should try using "Ulmia" spring clamps for clamping miter joints together. I have used them for many years and they make the most intricate miter clamping jobs very easy. They come in a variety of sizes from the larger ones that require their special pliers to use and smaller ones that clamp with hand power. They do require a small dimple to be filled on each leg of the miter but you have to sand the edges to remove saw blade or clamp marks anyway. Just Google Ulmia sprin g clamps to see what they look like.

    I own and use a vintage Griffin Etching press and always try to take the long road in making woodcuts. So gratifying to see you tackle the lettering by hand. If you ever design a simple and effective print drying rack I would love to see a videos on the build... I’ve been been drying editions for years in varying ways as the cost of a “real” drying rack throws me off. Anyway, I (as always) appreciate the work you’re doing!

    I like this design. The cool thing is you can do it with something simple like a printout from your computer and and a chisel, or you could have used a high tech solution like a CNC. Both ways would be just as valid. I kind of like the juxtaposition of the CNC and and old school printing press, but chiseling out the template is likely more historically accurate to the printing press. It's always cool to see the creativity that you use to make take advantage of the tools you have at your disposal. It makes me try and maximize the potential of the amazing tools I have available to me.
