- Ubisoft have been rewarded for mediocrity over the last decade or so but it seems their house of cards is now collapsing.
Players are skipping out on their games with a number of high-profile releases failing (Avatar, XDefiant, Star Wars Outlaws, Skull & Bones to name a few) and now they're under pressure, especially with their investors.
This has happened for a number of reasons. DEI related practises are a big one, both in terms of internal company culture which has of course found its way into the games themselves.
The conveyor belt style of game design that they have is the other obvious problem. We've been getting versions of Assassin's Creed 2 & Far Cry 3 for the last 10 years with very little serious innovation and it feels like that has caught up with them.
Their biggest problem? All these failures have come at once and their development pipeline is probably full of all the same sorts of games. It could take years for them to course correct in the publics eyes and I wonder if they'll actually survive that long...
Imagine being called a Ubisoft Expert, this is probably the biggest insult someone can put in words.
The word expert became meaningless a long time ago for me. People throw the word around to deceive and/or persuade.

Another thing that might come across as racist, is the idea of how exactly these people from different ethnic backgrounds introduce 'different cultures' to the project. Like, if they grew up in the United States, then their culture is American. What the heck does Ubisoft think black people are doing in their spare time? Dressing up in African style robes, banging on drums and channeling the spirits of their ancestors?
Exclude straight white but expect them to purchase!!!!!

I wish it was that way. Star wars outhouse would be fine if it was a reskinned ascre. But somehow they manage to make each new game sliiiightly worse than what came before.

The thing that happened is they told gamers to get comfortable not owning their own games. I will get used to not owning my own games, when they don't make a hideous, woke game. So never.. 130 bucks for Outlaws, comedy gold.
Someone should tell these folks that there's no correlation (direct or otherwise) between "diversity" and quality.

What do you mean by "go after indies"? What are they (Ubisoft and other AAA-publishers) gonna do? Acquire every single indie studio/developer out there? I think indie gaming scene will be just fine.

Its not about the companies, its about the Designers. Good designers come and go in all companies. But some designers go from great to terrible, for example; Emil Pagliarulo.
I remember buying far cry 6 for only 10 dollars 3 months after it came out. That's a sign Ubisoft going down the drain.
They dont hire a diverse cast. They hire the exact same person im a different color. They do a reverse MLK.

I hear this all the time, that it's illegal to hire based on skin color and diversity. It's only illegal to advertise. Any company can hire anyone for any reason. Doesn't matter.

The idea Ubisoft games 'all play the same' is just stupid on so many levels. You could say all video games play the same. Of course the same franchise is going to play the same. It's like complaining Halo games all play the same. I hear more people complain AC games DONT play the same. Which one is it.
I live open world FPSs so the whole it's a typical open world Ubisoft game..... he'll yeah sign me up.
This is just a random fact but I playing Serious Sam 2 and on the Citadel level there's a portrait on the wall that shows the dev team : 21 people, all white males ... lol, and this game is great. It's such a contrast to the all woman all gay devs being shoe-horned into the industry today. Before all this woke BS infested the industry and people could just make good games.
They did this to themselves.

Regarding far cry 6 - you play as a woman is over the top manly , like she walks like a guerilla and swears every second word. Such an off-putting character I put the game down after the first island.
Just couldn't stand her.
As someone who loved the Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell and Far Cry games as a child, and put nearly 1000 hours in Rainbow Six Siege before quitting it when they ruined it, I will be the happiest man alive if Ubisoft goes bankrupt/dissolves and their IPs are bought by people who actually care about them.

Yea good luck forcing every developer to adhere to DEI censorship guidelines. Perhaps they could make it a law in the EU and the US, but then I will just not buy them.
We have tons of choices the old games that were made when people weren't fools will be there for us to enjoy while we watch these companies fail and go bankrupt.

If you never liked their games, then why the f*ck do you keep buying them huh? I pre-ordered Ac Shadows, and ima laugh in all your faces. And you can't speak for my interests in the Assassin's creed franchise. I love every single one of them.
Why post this? I get being proud but being proud of liking average tier games like who really cares that you enjoy simping for a company like ubislop. Everyone knows there are consumers that will buy and eat up anything these low talents corps can dish out. Announcing it loud and proud just isn't a good look but you do you. And who will take offense from someone laughing in their face because they enjoy mediocrity. I might feel a little sorry for you but it won't hurt my feelings laugh away.
The issue isn't that Ubisoft ignored the cliff they were heading toward, the issue is that they listened to their echo chamber who stated that "dei" was the new standard that was chiseled into stone, and that there would never be meaningful pushback.

Maybe it's just because Ubisoft has never made the kind of games that I personally like to play, even a decade ago, but every time I saw their games, whether it was marketing like trailers or gameplay footage they always looked uninteresting and even boring to me. And of course their DEI initiatives makes me even less enthusiastic about them. Ubisoft deserves whatever is coming to them.
I expected that Assassins' Creed: Shadows is going to sell well because it's another Assassins' Creed title and most consumers just buy AAA-games because it's the newest entry to their favorite franchise not knowing, or caring, about whatever controversies it has on the internet. But after Star Wars: Outlaw's poor performance, despite being a Star Wars game, I dare speculate that maybe Shadows will sell less than expected/hoped as well.

Finished that last month. Entertaining game with a focus on fun vs realism. Would like to own on a platform that lets me own it.

Besides Starfield, Valhalla is the most boring game I've ever played I played for about 1 hour 45 mins the combat felt floaty the stealth felt like far cry in third person, and now we have ubisoft trying to virtue signal which is so ironic when ubisoft has been exposed as having one of the worst working environments for women besides Activision.
I liked Valhalla, but it is also the last Ubisoft game I will ever play. When you have played one you've played them all, it's like they put a blueprint over the world map.
My favorite part from the Ubisoft leaked paper on how to make a great game was: “Make every NPC try to trick the player to engage in homosexual relationships. This is how we grow the mOdErn aUdiEnce.”
Oh but they do that in "god magnificent" BG3. Or is it a "different story"?

In Spain, the most watched shows on Prime Video are from 10 years ago or more, except for "The Winchesters", but they keep churning out woke crap. If you listen the actress from the new Star Wars game, it's all about her, her origin country blah blah, who cares lady? The game is crap, and I don't think there were a lot of smugglers in the anglo saxon empire 😂😂
Valhalla had excellent combat and skill tree, and solid game world. Shame they did not go further that road, as Mirage was bland trash. Mirage was more polished than any other new Ubi project tho. Outlaws felt and looked like they did not even bother with quality control, because if any of Ubi's big wigs had actually bothered to playtest the game after it went gold, they would've definitely delayed the launch by coupla months at the least.

Ubisoft didn't need to change the gameplay it was about the stories and the world that made the game good but due to bad story writers and pushing politics it's killed their last few games
