The re-emergence of the Purcell from the fugue is, I believe, one of the most beautiful moments in all of music. I nearly cry at it every time

As a bassoonist, I love how he wrote “deepest sounds” and then wrote a quite high solo, and at the end got them to play up to c (octave above middle c) I really want to play thi£

I must say, the ending fugue has got to be my favorite part of this piece. This is like, the most classical piece of classical music.

I wish this was the first orchestral piece I heard. I went to my first one when I was 7 I think, and I was so confused by everything but the music was brilliant. Now after being in band for almost five years and being an absolute music nerd has helped me learn everything and cant wait to graduate in 3 yrs to go to a music college
Anyways here's an update: I've decided to be a Music Performance Major at the University of Kansas. I'm taking lessons and picking the oboe back up to double along with my clarinet. I want the Fugue to be one of my audition excerpts.

Clarinet is on top. But I picked up the bassoon instead of the oboe as my concert instrument.

The moment at 16:24 is pure genius. That made me search for the sheet to find out exactly how it was written rhythmically.

This isn't just music, but art. Tonight was my first time hearing the live in person. The fugue brought back all my childhood memories of learning about orchestral instruments in elementary school to the present..where I have a more advanced knowledge for music. I was crying, sobering and had goosebumps at the end.

Oh this is great! Second level Young Person's guide! The first level is attending the concert and hearing maestro introduce everything. When the kids are adolescents, they can follow along the score and learn basic score reading! Really excellent video!

This has always been my favorite of Britten's compositions...I would listen to it as a child on a CD that also had Prokoviev's Peter and the Wolf on it and while that is absolutely wonderful music I quickly ended up going back again and again to this, especially the Fugue. Just wonderful music.

Instruments Of The Orchestra - My Opinion
Flute & Piccolo: The flute is beautiful while the piccolo is nice when it’s not blowing my ears off
Oboe: The oboe is very nice, beautiful even
Clarinet: The clarinet is my favorite instrument, I loved its sound ever since I was younger
Bassoon: The bassoon is my very beautiful instrument, if only it got more solos
Violin: The violin is my favorite string instrument even though it can hurt my ears at times
Viola: The viola is a very nice instrument, if only people gave it the chance to show off its abilities
Cello: The cello a nice instrument with a very nice sound
String/Double Bass: The double bass actually sounds really nice when it’s not causing an earthquake
Harp: The harp is absolutely beautiful, an angel’s favorite instrument
French Horn: The french horn is a nice instrument with a awesome sound
Trumpet: Just like the violin, the trumpet is nice when it’s not hurting my ears
Trombone & Tuba: They are both awesome low instruments
Percussion: They’re okay when they don’t make a lot of noise

What contrabassoons??? Britten forgot about them.

      Started smelling like sh*t
And he never achieved a vibrato."
