I still can't believe they didn't put one of those rock spirit spring "puzzles" right there. It's so weird that Moore sells the note about them but the first one you encounter is on the other half of the map.
This one feels the most like it would've had a sealed Spirit Spring to get there as an early introduction to those, but it was just never _quite_ finished enough to put anything there. Always neat to get a look at all those out-of-reach twisty trees up close.
@@Kami.Sensei Thats exactly what i was thinking too, spent so long going around that plateau looking for a sealed spirit spring. Didnt know what they looked like yet so i figured it could be very well hidden.
I know everyone wants these areas to be accessible and feature content but some map pieces are just there to serve as structure. The big badass gate to Belurat needed a plateau!
I don't like it because in the base game, you could generally reach and explore every bit of traversable land you could see. The answer to "can I get there" was always yes, so it always felt worthwhile to try and find out how. In the dlc, it was quite annoying to discover that I could not reach certain locations after I had already spent several minutes looking for a way to do so. It goes against what the base game teaches you. It's also just strange that they have these perfectly usable bits of land that do nothing. Not even a recycled ruin or dragon fight.
@@Paddy656 I honestly feel you on that good Pad. But then again, a design *fundamental* of SoTE was linearity. They managed to make it seem open world but it's really not. Much of the optional content is gated by a dungeon or lengthy route down a river. Or a gesture lol. It's definitely a departure so I get it, they could have stuck to the 99% traversable map to maintain congruence with the base game.
Its always really fascinating seeing overlays of the land of shadow and the underground eternal cites. Because belurat and enir ilim hugged the liurnian coast, coincidentally where nokstella and the ainsel river flows. Its crazy to think nokstella and uhl used to be part of the area where all of this was. Also the lore implications of the nox/numen being a whole lot closer to the hornsent is very very curious and furthers my theory that the shamans/miko were artificially created for a specific purpose and maybe a group of them ran to the hinterlands to hide out on their own. Theres waaaaaay too many jars for the three or four houses we see in shaman village, but if the hornsent had access to these artificial beings created en masse by the nox/numens it would make more sense. The whole gold vs silver theme is fascinating to me, especially since it seems marika was seemingly born amongst silver but became gold.
Reminder that things are way bigger than it seems in elden ring, the whole game in lore take place on an entire continent, what we see as a small couple of shaman houses, would have probably been a town, or city, maybe even a small region
