Also, really appreciate your work Alanah, especially for the accessibility of gamers, as I work with many disabled and or neurodivergent groups and gaming connects everyone.
It is always good to see one of your videos. "Climbing the ladder" is a buy in when your first employed but after a while, a person realizes it is nothing but a grind. Being a Supervisor is welcome to the conflict zone. The most important thing in life, after being able to survive is to be happy. As for the family issues, time that passes can not be re-captured. I went home after 14 years away (after my father died- he lived with me) and home was not home to the same extent it was before. You change and have independent experience and the people at home change and have independent experience.

Talking to the whole para social relationship thing. I knew a guy who blew thousands of dollars on only fans. The guy already had some mental/psychological issues that he wasn’t dealing with properly. But the woman he sent most of the money too, he genuinely thought she was his girlfriend. It was creepy the way he talked about her. He paid her extra and she would send him flirty messages and stuff. And his brain could wrap around the fact that she was only flirting with him, becuase it’s was literally a service he paid her for. It was wild. Those women must be brave as hell to actively choose to interact with people like that.
That is... f-ing terrifying and has so much potential to go horribly, horribly wrong for all parties involved, so yeah, I feel she makes a really good point about the security risk of putting oneself out there like that. And let's not kid ourselves here, even without going the OF route any content creator reaching a certain size of audience is already at risk of someone in that audience fixating on them in an unhealthy manner. The girls (and guys) on OF (and similar sites) are probably even more so at risk for that kind of attention, which is honestly quite a scary thought.

Not going to lie, I'm a little envious of your writing career, Alanah. I got into the wrong business. Writing for newspapers meant that I got a ton of great clips early in my career, but now there are so few opportunities and chances to make decent money at a newspaper that sometimes it feels like my body of work is irrelelvant when exploring places where I want to work now. Anyhow though, I really dig your videos, and I appreciate your thoughts on the gaming industry and if you're not into OF, don't do it. As a 36 year old (man, which I'm only adding to indicate I can't weigh in on the experience of being a woman online), my experience of 30s has been that things have become a little more chill, definitely. I'm being productive, I'm staying connected, and I'm still tuned in ... but I'm doing it all in ways that are sustainable. There's more balance, I guess is what I'm trying to say!

Don't box. A broken nose can be a lifelong health hazard. I have a deviated septum from several broken nose incidents when I was anti-social in street fights. Causes me to mouth breath in my sleep which is bad for your health and can shorten your lifespan.

Writing question:
Did you always know you wanted to write? How does writing for games differ from writing for novels/novelas, comics, tv etc? Do you think you need to be an avid reader to be a writer? I have a few story ideas that I want to start putting to paper but I feel like I lack the reading experience. I read some but I definitely consume stories in other media (games, tv, podcasts) more than I do in written format.

Well said Alanah! As a fellow aussie, these are the same sort of values that I am trying to instill into my 6yr old daughter. I got into painting minis about five months ago. I tried to get into Warhammer like 20 years ago but the guys in the Games Workshop store were rude to me so I’ve been soft boycotting Warhammer ever since.
But I picked up some board games like Gloomhaven that have unpainted and uncoloured minis and decided to teach myself to paint solely for that reason. I enjoy it for the same reason you do, it’s relaxing and meditative. I’m not very good at it and I’ll never be great, but that’s ok. Any mini painting enthusiast will tell you a painted mini is better than an unpainted mini.

I love painting, but can't visualise images well enough to do shading or colours correctly. Was resigned to just sketching until I tried a paint by numbers during lockdown. A few years later my walls are covered in quality art and all I had to do was stay between the lines. Has become my relaxing evening activity after a long day in work

About the whole onlyfans thing, just to be clear, it's NOT just nudity. Yes, those who ask you to do it purely wanna see you naked but it's original intent was to just create an opportunity for a creator to create photos/videos and for their fans to be able to interact with them more privately and support them (hence the whole tipping system). I'd still love for you to create an Onlyfans but NOT for nudity! You can literally post ANYTHING there. What's such a shame is that the platform is so associated with nudity these days, girls (or guys) don't even wanna give it a try for any other type of content. However, like you said the messages you would receive, while you can block them, it cannot initially be controlled... You would receive hundreds of inappropriate messages. So I understand why you prefer not to use the platform.
