Thank you for posting this. Surely this is one of the great twentieth century song opuses. I think 1 and 3 are up there in some of the greatest lieder of all. Very Straussian but also quite strikingly modern even quirky at times. These two in particular are sublimely beautiful like Mahler's Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen in my opinion. Early Korngold masterpiece - age ~26. Only could come from his pen…one hears glimmers of intervals in T Stadt & W Helene & Katherin.
The telling point for me is how she tries to combine her voice and the piano. It for me it is quite rare that it succeds as is does in this case.
