Taken from the Seattle Men's Chorus site: Auditions for new singing members in January and August of each year. If you'd like to attend a rehearsal before auditioning to get a feel for the chorus and see what goes on behind the scenes, schedule a viewing by calling the office at 206.323.0750. Please know that SMC is a member of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses. This does NOT mean that all members are gay, but DOES mean that all are gay affirmative. Good luck auditioning!
So impressive that you can go from this to Every Sperm is Sacred and Sordid Lives in a matter of minutes. Great art and artifice...what a talented group. Eric Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC
This performance (so wonderful!) sung by both the Seattle Men’s Chorus and Seattle Women’s Chorus at GALA in Miami. I called the chorus office to confirm.
@profitworld I find your comments a bit pedantic, but your comment about not being gay affirmative, etc. IS offensive. You obviously won't get this gig - so don't quit your day job, toots.
A beautiful poem: Sure on this shining night Of star made shadows round, Kindness must watch for me This side the ground. The late year lies down the north. All is healed, all is health. High summer holds the earth. Hearts all whole. Sure on this shining night I weep for wonder wand'ring far alone Of shadows on the stars.
Sorry to have offended you. You did not understand my comments clearly. I am a Pastor of Music and Worship at an inclusive church, including many gay friends and congregants. I realize, since I am not gay, that chances of conducting (and singing in) such an ensemble would not be possible. Again, there was no intent to offend.
I am a member of the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC. We have a few straight members, some trans members, and a straight female conductor. The only requirements for admission are that you are able to sing in the TTBB range and support our mission to raise our voice for equality.
I am a 17 year member of the Seattle Women's Chorus, and I am in this video, in the top row. You do not have to be gay to sing in or conduct a Men's chorus - you only have to uphold the mission of the chorus (each chorus's Mission is a bit different) - and support the equality, diversity and wide range of gender and sexual expression. Allies are always welcome. The Women's chorus has a wide range of gender expression and sexualities represented. And we have a large number of Straight Allies. We welcome all. The Seattle Men's Chorus similarly has trans members, straight members - whomever can uphold the Mission.
Some nice sounds. Opening is a bit pedantic...note to note. Use syllabic stress of the text to communicate a more musical phrase. I like the tempo as it allows for creative musical expression. I would like to have seen more movement in spots. Some nice intensity in the sound at appropriate places. Good singing. If I were gay affirmative I would enjoy singing (or conducting) this choir. Good job!
Spectacular! Beautiful SATB arrangement. :-)

The Seattle Women's Chorus joined the Men's Chorus on stage.
A stunning and deeply moving performance - thanks.
Incredible!!! Was simply breathtaking seeing it performed live in Miami during GALA
One of the best moments of my life.

North Davidson, I wont be at Mars Hill due to a regional swim meet, did you meet Josh Willard at states, he was also from North.
Is this all men? I realize it is a men's choir but i hear sopranos, unless there are a lot of counter tenors in seattle.
I tried out for that too, what voice part were you? I didnt make that but I made Mars Hill
I officially love this piece! I auditioned with it and got into NC Honors Chorus!! Soooo happy!!!
I'm a Tenor 1. But I made Mars Hill also. Where are you from?
I'd be interested in knowing what your first favorite is! :)

jsydney61 Poem by James Agee. The music is delicious but the poem is sublime.

Of course you can sing with them. As Eric says below, as long as you support the mission.
