and that was still moderate. in the earliest days, the cars were that different, that the same car won with 10 laps lead in one race and was last in another.
Well the good thing is that gap between teams are definitely the smallest they have ever been BUT crucially the one important thing is that we still have only 3 teams that have realistic chance to be fighting for podiums each race and only 2 which have realistic chance of winning most races....and thats how its been for past 4-5 years now...and since car are so reliable these days compared to back then, there hardly will be any big surprises either in this marching order. F1 has still lot to improve on in that regard, just imagine if the gap between all teams was as small as it currently is in midfield....
@@Balnazzardi the midfield seems to be way closer in 2019, than they were in 2018. We have quali times within a second of pole in the midfield and that is really good.
There was more emphasis on driver skill then. If you were within a second of your teammate it might be good enough, now if that is the margin, you are Kubica.
One cannot deny that the late Hunt was a fantastic all weather driver. The beginning of the race was crazy with so much spray and rain. RIP James, there never was a dull moment with you either in the drivers seat or on the microphone with your late buddy Murray Walker.
@@mattylamb9194 I'm amazed he lived as long as he did without having an accident kill him. He denied being a fearless driver and said he once was so nervous before a race that he vomited in his seat. He also at another grand prix, was so nervous that he couldn't stop his hands from trembling. But once he got down to business, he was almost impossible to beat. Nobody could accuse Hunt of not being a serious racer. He had the talent and commitment even though his appearances said otherwise! He was known for cutting off the toes of his racing shoes. It would be very interesting to see a young James Hunt today getting into scuffles with Kimi (who ironically, sneaked into a race in Finland using Hunt's name!)

Like my granddad said.. The car was so damn fast. The engine would break from overheating and the brake broke down every 10 laps But always fun to watch because you can bet which one would broke first

Great race. And looks great with the modern graphical information overlays. However, I wish there was the option for the viewer to disable all the graphics with the modern live coverage of F1 races. Nothing beats seeing the races in full view in HD.
Had to come here to see how well they remade this in Rush. Down to the guy waving the checkered flag it seemed to be pretty spot-on. Well, the movie looked a lot darker, no doubt for dramatic effect, but still. Even the commentator mixing up Hunt's tyres was word-for-word. Lovely attention to detail.

Gaps on track were larger, but it was more unpredictable because of poor reliability. Top 8 finishers belong to 8 different teams.
