    ALQUEZAR
Alquézar is a historic village in the province of Huesca, within the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. It lies in the Somontano region, approximately 50 kilometres southeast of Huesca.
One of the main attractions of Alquézar is its beautifully preserved medieval architecture.
The village is crowned by the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria, a former 11th-century fortress.
This structure is an excellent example of Romanesque architecture, and its fortified walls, towers, and cloister provide a glimpse into its defensive past. The church's interior houses significant religious artworks and offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
The historical center of Alquézar is characterized by narrow, winding streets lined with stone houses that have retained their medieval charm. Walking through the village, visitors can observe the blend of historical and architectural elements that tell the story of its past.
The Plaza Mayor, the main square, serves as a focal point where locals and visitors gather, surrounded by arcaded buildings and quaint shops.
Alquézar is also renowned for its natural beauty and outdoor activities. The village is a gateway to the Sierra y Cañones de Guara Natural Park, a popular destination for hiking, canyoning, and rock climbing.
The park's dramatic landscapes, deep gorges, rocky cliffs, and clear streams, attract nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The Vero River, which flows near the village, offers several trails and routes for exploring the stunning natural surroundings.
One of the most notable routes is the Pasarelas del Vero, a series of walkways and bridges that allow visitors to traverse the cliffs and enjoy breathtaking views of the river below. This route combines natural beauty with a touch of adventure, making it a highlight for many visitors.
In addition to its natural and architectural attractions, Alquézar is known for its cultural heritage. The village hosts various festivals and events throughout the year, including traditional Aragonese celebrations that showcase local customs, music, and dance.
