How To Replace An Analog Thermostat With A Digital One-Tutorial

- In this video, I show you how to replace an analog thermostat with a programmable digital thermostat. It is a relatively simple process and doesn't even take that long. In addition, it only requires some basic tools and basic knowledge. This goes without saying, but you should definitely call a professional if you don't feel comfortable doing this, but it is a pretty simple process overall. The most important thing to do is take a picture of the original wiring of your analog thermostat, and label the wires appropriately so that you know where to put them on your new digital thermostat that you will be installing.

I want to say thank you for this video. I had the same exact old thermostat and that made it very easy to follow your instructions. I got the new one installed in minutes and it's working perfectly. Anything electrical kind of scares me but I got it done without my husbands help! Thanks again and God bless.
This was soooo helpful! I’ll be buying a new thermostat this weekend and using this video to install it. Thank you!
*Works great: **Fastly.Cool** and Warming environment perfectly controlled. I use 3 in different grow tents. It’s nice to see from your phone how your tent temps are. Does High and Low and records data.*
what is the model Honeywell thermostat you used in video
This was quite helpful! I've got a very old analog thermostat and your video helped me to know I need to get a battery powered digital replacement thermostat. Thanks so much for posting!
Be sure to check with energy star to find a smart thermostat and possibly get a rebate.
Did yours have mercury? Mine does.
@@NipplWizard yes it did.
Put the old one on eBay. I am buying them.
About to install new thermostat. Good video, easy to follow instruction.
I’ve been using this little hygrometer for about a week now ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxcr5WULFU6yC9UUKc_cdNJT9jGa6VxO1l and I’m loving it, got it for a ball python so I can track her temps accurately while she battles a RI, so temps and humidity need to be accurate. I love how it’s Bluetooth no matter where I am in the house, I plan on buying more for my other snakes when I can, I highly recommend this! It’s so easy to check it without disturbing her and stressing her out. Only complaint is it’s in military time but otherwise not horrible
This was super helpful! Never did it before but it was awesome!
Thanks man, this was very clear and informative 👍👍
Thank you! So hard to find for this old style thermostat.
Nice video by the way. Very informative

From the beginning I thought kermit the frog would show up.😀👍🏽
😂
Same lol
so if its possible to replace the analog one with a more modern digital one,, could it be possible to replace a modern digital one with an old analog one? i just got a new ac system installed, but they replaced my old thermostat with this too hard to use modern one...as long as its the same voltage (which it is) will it be okay to put my old one back in? i just dont want to damage anything or blow something up...haha. thanks
This is a great video! Thank you!
Can all mechanical thermostat be replaced by any digital thermostat? Or does this require some sort of matching of functions?
Can replace any old thermostat with any new digital thermostat. If you don't have the common power wire, then make sure to get a battery powered one.
Great video Tyfs
What if my old system only had 2 wires (white and black) where would they go?
Right that's what I have
So i don't have central air...Does it matter which kind of thermostat i get or can I just get any thermostat? Anyone ? Thanks
I have the same thermostat where I live.. the one I have is all broken, and it doesn't feel like it cools down. Having a broken old analog thermostat has anything to do with this a/c not cooling like it supposed to?
Absolutely, the thermostat is basically the brain of your AC unit.
I have all types of programmable thermostats for all different size houses. My opinion, stick to analog thermostats. Simple, easy to use, and generally never break.
Wow I'm literally going from the same old one to the same new one 😂
do he has a video show you how to use a tool to adjust when you take the cover off
could you speak more on the "common wire'... You had four wires to begin with. How was the thermostat powered then... One of those must have been the common wire?
Best to turn off the heat and air at the breaker box.
What kind of unit is that
instead of straightening out the hooks, cut them off ans strip back the wire. You have way more than enough wire and you will get a better connection and are less likely to have a break by using the unexposed wire.
Older house with old wires will never be the color they are supposed to be
you should have identified the wire you didn't need to use in the video

This is confusing if u never did this before
What was so hard about pulling wires out and putting them back where they go? Really not rocket science
Really helpful. Thank you.
