Thanks so much for this video and the rebuild one. My PS3 was sounding like it was about to explode, and having the same model as yours it was simply to follow along and add the thermal paste. Looking forward to getting a few more years out of more favourite console.
Brilliant video mate, this is actually the fourth tutorial I've found on the topic, but all the others were of different models and had some significant differences in assembly. You saved my ass.
Thank you so much for this and the rebuilding video buddy this is 3 years late but I recently bought a cechL01 model and the hard drive sounded very dated, I replaced the hard drive with a 500gb SSD. And then knew it needed a cleaning and fresh thermal paste. My buddy was supposed to help me since he's worked on PCs but he chickened out after messing with a faulty slim I had. So me and my gf found your video and successfully got it cleaned with fresh pads and fresh paste. Seems to be doing okay did all the normal things I hope it last! Thank you again man.
Thanks for the vid! Was having trouble getting the board out ... thought it was seposed to come out along with the plate on the bottom. Turns out, it doesn't ... lol. Cheers
22:26 It was stuck so tight I almost broke the motherboard. Thankfully nothing happened. Even if I changed the thermal paste, my PS3 is still so loud. I think it probably needs to be delided.
Hey Joe, i've just gone and bought a PS3 in mainly to put some cfw on it and back up all my games. This is the exact model i got for just £7.99!! and all it needed was a good clean and paste & this video came in VERY handy! Cheers pal.
I got a 3rd hand PS3 same as this a japanese CECHL00. Booting up and installing a New Version there was a error code when 98% hits. When I teardown it the Hardrive flex cable doesnt have locking mechanism or probably missing is there anyway to make it work? also the top cover of the Power supply is missing.
When you removed the top cover (the one with the screws) you said to just pull but there's actually a small cutout with a tab inside you press to release it, doing it your way could snap it off for good!
Hi, is the cechl01 the same? I have an opportunity to that model for $20. I want it so I can practice taking it apart because I have a CECHA01 model and I want to open it and clean and put new thermal paste on. Any advice would be appreciated my friend. Thank you
It’ll be similar but not exactly the same. Just take your time stripping it down and take photos at every stage. You shouldn’t have any issues getting it back together if you do that.
i also have the 80gb cechl03, but unfortunately the black flap holding down the ribbon cable came off and the end of the cable is bent and not straight. trying to look for the same replacement cable is difficult.
Are the insides of this CECHL03 model the same as a white CECHL00? I am going to open my white PS3 for a cleaning but I want a good teardown guide that works with my model.
I can’t say, as I’ve not taken a CECHL00 model apart. I don’t think they should be very different, though. Just be systematic, and take your time. Also, the best tip I’ve seen is to get some small pots for the screws. Keep all the different screws separate, so you know where they go when you reassemble. You could also take pictures at each stage, so you have some reference points.
@@JoeChip thanks I used only this first guide and it really helped me a lot but I have problem after repaste my ps3 CECHL04 is still hot about 71-74C on cpu only gpu is fine 61C I need to delid? do you know how to delid I never made that and I can't find service in my town.
@@altairps3HFW No, delidding is a tricky business and something I’ve never attempted. Your CPU temps are high but not excessively so. As long as they aren’t going above that and your PS3 is operating functioning properly, you will probably be ok. Just make sure it’s well ventilated.
@@JoeChip fans are realy clear now I can try case mods but I don't know much about that so if I not have 80C is fine? What about liquid metal is better?
marty2016 rc motocross That’s a sign of overheating. You could take it apart, clean it and apply new thermal paste but it may only offer a temporary fix. Others have tried reflowing the solder but, again, it will likely only be a temporary solution (if at all). Can you take it back to the seller?
6 years later and you still saved me, youre an absolute legend!!

Thanks for this Joe, honestly you have made the best video on this
This video was really helpful, thanks :)

Thanks for the detailed and easy description, disassembly worked like a charm!
cheers for the excellent video, helped me replace my dead cmos battery (and give it a good clean out). much appreciated my good fellow.
This video was really helpful, thanks mate! Keep it up!

Thank you very much, your video helped me too much, I was stuck trying to figure out where the thermal pads were placed on the CECHL-11 model.
No problem. Really glad I could help you ou👍
Thank you so much!! greetings from germany!
At 11:38 in this video, you unplugged a cable, that connecter just fell off the board, how would I go about repairing that?
Thank you for this video it helped me with my L01
Glad I could help you out 👍

I’m so confused. Why would you put a heat sink and cooling fan at the bottom when heat rises?
Good question.
Well they designed the ps3 to be set down on its side but later ps3s fix the problem
Yes your video help greatly! I was stuck trying to figure out why the motherboard wouldn't lift from the heat sync 🤦♂️😁
I think I had that issue the first time I took it apart. Glad you got it sorted 👍

Cheers for sharing. I'll try to remember that in future.

it should be the same, the 03 is just a region code.
My phat ps3 is working perfectly without tearing it down
