I would first bring the Ph down to protect your pool and equipment first then add the Alkalinity to the pool in small doses checking the ph 4 to 6 hours after each dose to make sure the Ph doesn't get above 7.8 if it does go above 7.8 I would add some decreaser again to bring Ph down a bit before adding more Alkalinity increaser.
Question: This year. went from 20 year plaster to Pebble Sheen. For some reason, I have yet to put in Muratic Acid. Seems with the new Pebble Sheen, the PH & Alkalinity is always low. I don't pee in my pool, yes is Arizona it rains. The only thing I can think of is it's my suntan lotion that is causing my PH & Alkalinity to always be low. So, it seems like I'm always putting in baking soda in order to maintain the right balance of PH & Alkalinity. Love your videos by the way. Myself and all of us learn so much from them. Is this normal? Thank you!
Hello Jrbrass, First I want to say thank you for the great comment and watching our videos! For your question it is a bit of a head scratcher. It would take quite a bit of suntan lotion to be eating up your alkalinity like that considering a Tablespoon of baking soda should neutralize a whole bottle of suntan lotion. Just guessing on that though don't really know what the PH is on your suntan lotion. On a serious note the common things that do lower your PH and alkalinity are Stabilized Chlorines which have a PH of about 3, Leaves, Mulch, Dirt, and Acid Rain. We have issues with Acid Rain here in Montana due to the Forest Fire season which kills the Alkalinity in all our pools. If your pool is not experiencing any of these things you could check what kind of shock your using in you pool and try a calcium Hypochlorite shock which has a higher PH. Other than that maybe contact the Pebble sheen manufacturer just to make sure it isn't something to do with one of there products used to refinish your pool. Hope this helps but it is tough to diagnose a far away pool with out being there. Hope you get it figured out and thanks again. Pool Elementary
@@Poolelementary This is my first summer, I did have to add baking soda due to when summer began my PH & alkalinity was low. My pool was cloudy, so I checked it and they were low. So, I added 1lb of baking soda. Pool is clear and looking great, but still PH and alkalinity is little low. I've always had enough chlorine. Maybe I just didn't add enough baking soda when summer started. Just seemed weird with my plaster, I was always adding acid. This new pebble sheen and the summer, I haven't had to add any acid. Thank you for replying, I'll keep watching your videos.
Sir I have been using only baking soda but my pH has always been low so after watching you video I am going to buy soda ash pls can I apply both at once in my pool of differently
My pools alkalinity is 0ppm and pH is high 8.4 should I increase alkalinity first or lower pH?

I just started doing pool maintenance and this PH vs Total Alkalinity is a bit confusing.
