It all comes down to personal opinion and there are some that think this is the wrong style.. you could say that about any cover, as it is personal.. I think they are wrong and this version by Cara is incredible... sends shivers down my spine!!
The only version of this I'd ever heard before was Susan McKeown's on her 'Lowlands' album. What a contrast in styles between the dark, minimal, yearning sound of McKeown and this more lyrical, more wistful, more sumptuous version. Both excellent.
Okay so, you’ve essentially turned an English folk song into a cover of an Alison Krauss song....? Ann Briggs does a good cover but I think this is the wrong style for this song. I think your musical taste in choosing this is very, very misplaced and you sound like you’ve copied Alison Krauss, you have a beautiful voice though.
A few minutes ago, I searched for Alison’s version and could not find it. Perhaps Alison was inspired by Cara’s version, who knows!? In any case, this version is amazingly beautiful. 🔆
