I just bought this pedal. I think my search for a great overdrive pedal is finally over. Wow!! If this is what all the hoopla is about as it relates to the Klon, I finally get it. I don't work for J Rocket or Pro Guitarshop. Just grateful something like this exists at this price point!!
Why is the first part of the demo recorded with a stereo effect and not the latter. It's noticeable when the guitar trails off at 1:48. The 2nd half of the demo sounds flat when compared to the first half. Anyone else notice this?
Just got this pedal and I'm amazed at how much low end it kills from your amp and replaces with tons of mids. Can anyone help? Anything below noon on the treble control is way too dark but anything past noon KILLS my low end completely and just gives me mids with barely any high end, what gives? FYI, I'm playing a Telecaster (neck pickup 99% of the time) through a Blues Junior, bass all the ay up, treble at 12/1 o'clock, mids at 10 o'clock I keep the output around 9 o'clock the gain at about 1 - 3 o'clock and the treble around noon or 1 o'clock. Frankly I'm stunned this thing costs so damn much, is the Silver archer any better? I'm really struggling to get anything out of this pedal that doesn't make my tone sound like I'm using a really small amp.
As great as the examples Andy demonstrates here, just the name J Rockett alone sells it for me I bought the Dude pedal which is a Dumble in a box and I cant say enough great things about it.
Guitar Johhny There is a video where he breaks down his studio recording setup, and I think he always uses (which sounds like it on most demos) a Royer 121 ribbon mic about 6 inches away dead center to the cap, usually in front of a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue, unless it is of course a different amp demo video. IIRC also its the mic going into an Avid MBOX protools interface.
i have an archer gold-ikon.. and although it's a nice pedal..there are 2 issues 1- eats batteries like there is no tomorrow 2- my chinese copy sounds better...yes.. chinese copy sounds better..clearer and treble is more useable past 12 o'clock
the word magic seems so missplaced in eletric devices. Altough the pedal sounds very nice, this kind of resume of how it works: "Magic diodes", oh lord, push me away instantly.
wow, there's still a BIG difference in tone for me between the two. The Archer sound thinner and a little quackier. The Klon has a nice low thump with really rich overtones. Is it really that hard to clone a Klon exactly? I mean, this comparison sounds like two totally different pedals for me even if the diods should be the same. I would buy the archer within a second if it comes 90% close to the original Klon but this one... sorry, nice try, nice color but not worth it.
jimpatro No pick requires when you place that well without one. Plenty play without a pick or hybrid. The tone and feel from flesh and nail really lends itself. I play with a pick, hybrid and totally without but granted not as tastes as this guy.
This whole entire pedal is marketing BS which really puts me off PGS. The fairy tale at the beginning about finding a secret stash... if you really found the "magic diodes", then what are they? This pedal just has Russian D9E diodes that every centaur copy has, and Finnigan himself revealed the Centaur came with 1N34A diodes. But the whole Klon thing is dumb anyway and just begs for this kind of drama with the easily hypnotized.
There are two guitars playing together, no artificial doubling. We don't add reverb unless it's from the amp and only limit the output of the final mix to prevent clipping. We keep it simple so you can hear how it actually sounds.
Nothing in the world sounds better than that slightly quacky sound you get from single coils getting pushed to the utter maximum. Excellent job, Andy!
Sounds gorgeous...and as an Aerosmith geek, loved the use of "Adam's Apple" for the demo....

Adam's apple from Toys in the attic, a really classic album....
+kafcin Yeah, back when Aerosmith was - Aerosmith
John R., agreed!
adam's apple....nice selection from when they were actually a great band
Adam's Apple! Great demo as usual. Pedal sounds incredible.
Dear Andy - Thanks loads for selling me on the silver Archer and now showing us this a couple of months later. Can anyone spare $199?
Well since this pedal is called the Archer, I'm surprised he didn't play Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins.
I though i would never need a klon clone. Ok you convinced me. It might be the magic diodes.
OK just the fact your playing Adam’s Apple is
bad ass!!! Great demo!
Cheers🤘
The perfect tele pedal!
QOTSA to Aerosmith to the Chili Peppers this guy Andy , has definitely been reading my mail!
That G&L sounds damn good. I want to get a batch of those pickups
I ordered mine and I can't wait. This thing sounds awesome.
I just got the archer ikon rich and warm. Seemed to work well with a les paul and a tweed deluxe.
This one did sound very good to me.
love the j rocket pedals
Adam's Apple! Nice job, Andy.
Are all iKons made with the original diodes, or just the ones available through pgs?
All of the archer Ikons have them but it will be limited since they only got a small amount of them. Hope that helps.
good demo, most vids of klon types, bang out chords punk rock style, but this pedal is made for sweet solo, smooth rhythm

Man I would pay $2000 for one if I could make it sound like Andy does. Count me as a middle-aged fan-boy. Adam's Apple! Superb.

I'm afraid of this happening which is why I got the Dude v2 which lets you add bass with the deep control. You ever end up liking this pedal?
I have the silver archer and I love it. I use a blu guitar amp 1 original with it. I leave it on all the time.
Ordered mine, should stack nicely with my King Of Tone, Creme Brûlée and Nobles ODR1
WOW! Holy Cow you are good Andy! Way to go! As always, best regards from the west coast of Canada. - c
I have a feeling I'll never see Rebecca Dirks ever again. Sigh.... :(
tMattLZ Not on this channel my friend, you're looking for Premier Guitar's channel i guess ;)
She hasn't been on that channel for about 3 years.
tMattLZ Na sucks aye, she's breedin!
who?
tMattLZ yea married with 5 rug rats by now
anyone know the year/model of the les paul?
How do Klon-type pedals work with high headroom amps (like a Fender Twin)? A friend of mine wants to know...
pdg887 I run a Klon(e) into a 1971 Fender Twin (set totally clean) both through single coil and humbuckers and it sounds great in either context.
Justin Sytsma Great thanks
Interesting. I'll pick one up & see how it goes against the Soul Food in my rig.
Thinking of doing the same. Howd it go?
The Archer with the specific diodes and internal charge pump should provide a notable contrast in the 2 pedals
Andy your great guitar player!! How long have you been playing? Are you in any bands? if so what is the name? Great demo and sounding overdrive!!
Got one it's a keeper then again I've said that about loads of pedals
Great job on this review!
Need one of these too!!!
This is my desert island pedal.
What is that telecaster type guitar?
+Nephilim It has Redtail... Redtail Guitars.
The last song he plays is extremely cool. Anybody know what it’s called and who wrote it?
So I should buy this
As great as the examples Andy demonstrates here, just the name J Rockett alone sells it for me
I bought the Dude pedal which is a Dumble in a box and I cant say enough great things about it.
Sure looks prettier then the KTR klon clone of the klon.
Another one you cannot afford not to have..
Does it work with the big strymon pedals? or not just as the archer doesn't.
Yes it doesn't
Erick Chicas It doesn't work with Strymon pedals? That would suck!
***** a lot of klon type pedals that use the charge pump have a noise when use with the big strymon pedals :(
Erick Chicas Using mine with a Flint and Timeline. Zero issues.
Shawn Tubbs Have you tried it in digital mode and with the grit all the way up?
You should do a Rimrock Mythical Overdrive with 1n34 and 126 clippers!
Anyone knows the title of the song at 6:40 ?
What AMP was used in this demo? Sounds great, just curious. Is it the DRR?
On This Rock yes
Must.....have......MAGIC DIODES🐼
Adam’s Apple!!!! Sweet!
What is he playing around 3:50 ?
Sandstorm , by darude
+Karl-Henrik Arendt
Not up-picking, that's for sure..
mics?
Guitar Johhny There is a video where he breaks down his studio recording setup, and I think he always uses (which sounds like it on most demos) a Royer 121 ribbon mic about 6 inches away dead center to the cap, usually in front of a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue, unless it is of course a different amp demo video. 2- my chinese copy sounds better...yes.. chinese copy sounds better..clearer and treble is more useable past 12 o'clock
Which Chinese copy?
Second song?
the word magic seems so missplaced in eletric devices.
Altough the pedal sounds very nice, this kind of resume of how it works: "Magic diodes", oh lord, push me away instantly.
Last song?
Russ Arteaga sounds vaguely similar to Bob Marley's "Waiting In Vain", lol how appropriate. But I am not sure exactly.
wow, there's still a BIG difference in tone for me between the two. The Archer sound thinner and a little quackier. The Klon has a nice low thump with really rich overtones.

Adam's Apple! :D
Would somebody get this guy a pick please!
jimpatro No pick requires when you place that well without one. Plenty play without a pick or hybrid. The tone and feel from flesh and nail really lends itself. I play with a pick, hybrid and totally without but granted not as tastes as this guy.
Hey look we made a klon! Please.
Sounds like a way to ask more for a pedal.
This whole entire pedal is marketing BS which really puts me off PGS. The fairy tale at the beginning about finding a secret stash... if you really found the "magic diodes", then what are they? Opening kinda’ reminded me of Aerosmith!
It is! Adam's Apple from the Toys album
I cannot for the life of me think of the name to the opening song
whosnext1972 It's Adam's Apple by Aerosmith. I think.
***** THANK YOU. that was really going to bother me
Nice. My take Klons are overrated especially for the price (of an unborn baby).
Great but pricey
T.I.N Mateus you wouldnt know pricy until you see a real klon
Does the Archer work by pushing an amp into overdrive? Does it work with a class A valve amp that doesn't really distort no matter how hard I push it?
sucks at high gain! best clean booster ever! just as a klon should be
I run it in front of my 2 channel triple rectifier for metal and I love it. Not sure what your running but I find that to just be not true.
Grrrrrr
that was useless demo with all the post production and doubling.
There are two guitars playing together, no artificial doubling. We don't add reverb unless it's from the amp and only limit the output of the final mix to prevent clipping. We keep it simple so you can hear how it actually sounds.
