Hope you enjoy this performance of Scriabin's Etude Op. 8 No. 12 by SPQ.
Outro: Debussy - La cathédrale engloutie
Hello, I'm Rousseau, I make piano covers of classical and pop songs with a reactive visualizer. New videos every second Monday!
#Rousseau #Piano #PianoCover
Finally, some Scriabin. One of his earlier Etudes, written when Scriabin was around the age of 23, the strong influence of Chopin on his early musical language can be heard quite clearly here - the rhythmical figure of the theme is seemingly a reference to the Chopin Etude of the same number (i.e. Revolutionary). Yet, even amongst all of the 'Chopin' flavors, there is a heavy Russian influence which is distinctly Scriabin. There has been somewhat of a Scriabin revival over the last few decades, and appreciation for his musical output has been growing - something that he truly deserves given this statement made about him: "No one was more famous during their lifetime, and few were more quickly ignored after death."
This magical performance was recorded by SPQ last year, after sitting for almost a year as raw footage files I thought it finally needed to be edited and for you all to experience it! Wishing you all the best on this Monday ♥
Finally Rousseau
hello
First and this proves this
We miss you Rousseau. Hello.
Do you plan to record any of his later works?
Scriabin claimed he had synesthesia - meaning he saw colors when he heard sounds! I've always wondered how that feels like, do any of you have that?
first reply
Rousseau no
Yes, I associate some colours with some notes, but not all of them. Messiaen had synaesthesia too
I have it! But a light form so i see it in my mind when i hear or see words, letters or numbers
Schubert Wanderer Fantasie
Did you know that...
In the early 1880s, Scriabin joined the army thanks to his uncle. He then benefited from a preferential regime, since he could play the piano for several hours a day and was exempt from physical exercise.
In 1888, the young man entered the Moscow Conservatory as a student of Vasily Safonov. It was there that he met another student, Sergei Rachmaninov, who would become both friend and rival.
Thank you Rousseau for sharing the classical music
WoW Nice info ty
Eh... Scriabin and Rachmaninoff knew each other from years before... They lived in the house of Zverev, their piano teacher, along with other students.
Yup, looks like I've guessed both of his infuencers. There was definitely a lot of Chopin, but I've always wondered why there was so much Rachmaninoff despair in his chord abuse. That explains it pretty well.
Nice info, thanks!! I did'nt know that
that was good. have you noticed that this is the best sounding piano/ or keyboard, and it doesnt shake, while even a grand might, and that g sharp 1 and 2 octave have a sharp sting, and the d 1 doesnt sound as a piano at all. i just love it
I can’t wait for someone in the comments to say “I paid for the whole piano, im gonna use the whole piano.”
you just said it

Chopin waltz op 69 no 2

Scriabin doesn't get the love he deserves. He's got such amazing music.
He was brilliant….without over using the word.
@@firebir11 overusing what word ?
@@musicstroge it’s because lots of people use brilliant too loosely/often and label anyone as brilliant.
yup ur right, but hes music is awesome, cant wait to practice this once I prepared my other pieces for music university.
Btw I play only 2 Years ago:)
Scriabin was truly one the great geniuses of classical music. His Poem of Ecstasy is a monumental masterpiece of epic proportions!
This piece must be the rarest in any media. Hardly any UA-camrs played this.
It's probably the most popular piece by Scriabin though...
@@Zerox029 true
But Scriabin has many better pieces.
This piece is very famous. You just don't know.
@@SZ-wb1qb I don't think he is saying that the piece is not famous, rather it is true that most popular yters don't play it.
This seems so peaceful, even though there are some not-so-peaceful parts. I'm not sure why
I think it mezzoforte
I might be wrong though
Agree
It's not supposed to be peaceful it's supposed listen to scrabian's piana roll or horowitz's recordin
You must be slavanin to understand it.
@@user-yu4nd1sn2z More like Russian. I'm a slav and appreciate, although not understand Scriabin's music to a greater extent
The Horowitz version of this piece is absolutely stunning.
Hey... You might also like my version also. Be sure to check it out on my channel and Subscribe if you enjoyed it. Thanks
I prefer Matsuev's, or Scriabin's own.
Scriabin's own... magic.
Timklasistico I’d rather not watch someone who shamelessly self advertises on a UA-cam comment section
Because Horowitz is a God! I love him so much! No wonder Lang Lang idolized him!
It happened. It finally happened. I've avoided it for so long, but it has happened.
I got a SimplyPiano ad right before the video.
LOL😂
This is such an emotional piece of music. The romantic Scriabin, before he embraces the more abstract.
It is amazing how Scriabin's early pieces ( especially the piano ones ) were so melodic, and then became the King of atonal with his orchestral ones!
Atonal≠no melodies
@@Scherzokinn no melody ≠ not melodic
@@nikolaimedtner7248 hehe true, but I feel like some of Scriabin's middle and later works are definitely melodic.
@@Scherzokinn yes I do think so too. He's one of my all time fav composers.
@@nikolaimedtner7248 me too, and fastly became!
I never liked Scriabin much before... This is revolutionizing my feelings !
@Oscar Fish 😅 Unconsciously though !
I keep disliking... not against the performance, amazing. but!
@@eulermachado3968 why would you dislike Scriabin? He's like one of the most amazing composers out there.
Scriabin is my beloved composer for years!
You should check out his piano concerto! Its quite romantic in style.
Such a beautiful and passionate piece, the use of the pedals and the tempo changes is just amazing, well done. Very well done
Do one on Rhapsody in Blue - Written by George Gershwin
Agreed
We need people to get more ppl to like this so that Rousseau will notice!
And yes I would like to hear it as well.
Yes there is an actual official solo piano arrangement of it, its very difficult but is amazing, i have the sheet music/book. He should learn it.
holy fuck no. that is is just jazz claiming to be classical and it’s really poorly made.
What about Elegie, op. 3 n°1 of Rachmaninoff ? 😊

Rachmaninoff ♥️🔥
I started off subscribing this guy while he had 300k subs and now I'm really proud of what he has achieved. Keep up the good work Rousseau.
Scriabin is my favorite composer. I can't understand why he is so underrated.
What's your favorite Scriabin piece?
So true, especially his mazurkas op 3 and some of his Waltzes. Posth. G-sharp Minor, op.1 waltz in F minor
Vtheman PP For me it’s his sonatas. When played chronologically they offer, for me, the best insight into Scriabin’s development as a composer.
I usually listen to all sonatas from 1 to 10, played by Roberto Szidon. But I'd say my favorite pieces of him are the Sonata N°2 and the Sonata N° 10.
To me, his music is on another expressive level, with a deep connection with truth and all bitter, introvert and complex parts of life.
His music goes well beyond basic emotions and makes me feel understood and happy to be alive with all its bitterness, doubts and hidden beauty
Rafael Pernil Ey man i just stared at my screen for a second after reading this, great description of the deeper emotion behind it, couldn’t have said it better!!
I think nobody remember but this is the piece that Emi from Your lie in April plays, i think before Arima in the second stage
@@isabeltung388 nobody remembers it at all haha
@@MadaraSama23 i did remember it, i've watched it like 5 times, i've always loved it but i had never searched it
That is what brought me here.
@@MadaraSama23 no it's not the same. It was Winter wind Etude by Chopin, it sounds similar because Scriabin was influenced by Chopin.
@@instantinople3796 She plays it in the final competition when Arima plays Ballade No. 1. It's just shown very briefly.
Rousseau, may I just say, I absolutely love your videos. I love how you play these pieces with no extraneous hand movements, which in my opinion shows your crystal clear talent in playing the piano, yet the emotion is still evident. The design of the notes seemed to always fit every song, and your choices of music are always a treat to hear. I was never a fan of the classics, but I remember recently stumbling upon your channel because I was looking up Tom and Jerry (your Hungarian Rhapsody no. 2 will always bring tears to my eyes) and I'm such a huge fan of your work ever since. I'm actually studying how to read notes so I could maybe start playing the piano, too!
Thank you for putting up this channel, and I hope that you'll inspire more individuals to play the piano, and make them fall in love with Chopin, Liszt, and the rest of the virtuoso!
*I also have an intense synesthesia while listening to this piece*
This piece reminds me a RED color.. Lady in a red dress drinking a poisoned red wine. As a feeling I would describe it as a tragic love. It tastes like a poisoned apple or wine. Other pieces that remind me this color are - Liebestraum No. 3 and Prelude in C sharp minor by Rachmaninoff
On the other hand we have BLUE color, this color reminds me one piece from Chopin himself. Ballade No. 1 in G minor and Nocturne Op.55 No.1 shows a despair and depression of a young guy surviving a WW2 by himself ( his family was killed ) in a winter. It doesn't have any taste at all.
Other colors - Black & White, taste of these color is similar to white and dark chocolate ( Moonlight Sonata Mvt. 1, Lacrimosa and Nocturne Op. 48 No.1 ), it represents sadness, knowing that you'll die soon
Green - ( Waltz in A minor and Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 by Chopin and Turkish March by Mozart ), it represents happiness and hope, tastes like a fruit.
Yellow and Orange - ( Clair de Lune, Ballade No.4 ), it reminds me a sunset, it shows a peace in your soul and building a strong bond with your friends and family. It tastes like a coffee or an orange tea.
Purple / Pink - ( Für Elise by Beethoven and Waltz Op. 69 No. 1, No. 2 by Chopin ) This color is an illusion, it might have an atrractive melody but don't fall for it, it shows a betrayal from your partner or close friend. It tastes like a candy but its poisoned. Be cautious of this color!
You have an amazing imagination!
While I watched this an enormous amount of rain started pouring, and it was just so beautiful coupled with the music
Sans listens classical music?
I though you just listen tromBONE
Lmao literally same with me
I just imagine two really talented spiders, being your hands, just jumping over the piano like that
I can do that!

Ahhh, almost 3 mil!!! Congrats Rousseau! 🎉
This brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Thanks for making my day a little bit better!
So happy to see this!! One of my favorite etudes. Beautifully played. Thank you Rousseau!
One of my favourite solo pieces ever. Great performance!
Yes finally!!! Scriabin is so underrated. I've been requesting this one for a long time, thanks! :) Also a very interresting soft approach in the beginning
Personally I think the whole recording is too slow / very peaceful. As compared to, say, listen to Scriabin play it himself. Or even Horowitz. Scriabin’s recording is about a minute shorter, and it brings a much more “needed” feeling to a piece like this than this recording does
@@wolfie1g I agree with you. This piece must sound like a thunder storm for me. Still very interresting to hear a different interpretation
especially the 2:25 part feels very misplaced, idk how to describe it.
@@wolfie1g I feel the same. It is beautiful but it lacks speed and tension in my opinion.
I love this piece💚
Probabily my fav 2 mins piano ever. Great job, ty.

すっげえ思い出深い曲
I like it, but Scriabin’s sketch dis should be extremely intense

Beautifully played Rousseau!
Beautiful piece
Not a bad rendition, but this version is definitely lacking the power and the feeling of sorrow that Horowitz brought to the table. Perhaps the over-steadiness or the lack of forte that made it this way but this definitely could be improved.
Crizit you worded it perfectly. Not bad but lacks so much depth.
Agreed, it’s not bad, and very secure and correct which are great attributes to have in itself, but really needs more a bigger vision; more flair, sensitivity, vulnerability, volatility for Scriabin’s big spirit
Agreed. Care to check out my version on my channel also? you won't regret it.
@@Timklasistico advertising on other people's work isn't cool man.
I honestly think the polar opposite. Horowitz played it like he was being chased by something. In my opinion it’s harder to feel what the music is trying to tell us when you’re played it fast like that. Almost as if a bomb will go off if you don’t finish this piece in a certain time limit lol
Love Scriabin, amazing piece! Thank you for this.
Beautiful. I love it. Keep up the good work!
I've always loved this piece. It's so relaxing, yet gives a sense of loneliness and longing. Beautiful video!

This is the perfect interpretation of the piece, slowly but more importantly, majestic. I've heard too many recordings of this piece that get fast and furious that they don't synchronize with one hand and the other and this one was perfect

what a funny and original comment!
This is one of my top 5 pieces of all time for solo piano. I have a degree in piano and have played this piece so I understand the difficulty that is hidden in this piece that most people probably don't or won't hear. I only have 1 negative comment though. The dynamic of the oiece is predominantly ff or around that. But this performance seemed very demur. Does the synesthesia keyboard have dynamic limits? I had my volume all the way up and it still seemed pretty low in dynamics. If you listen to Yuja Wang or Evgeny Kissin or others it seems as if they are on the edge of breaking strings. BUT, the dynamics aside, this is a beautiful performance and very well controlled. Too many people try to perform this piece at such a tempo that it feels panicked. It is also the perfect piece for a synesthesia piano considering Scriabbin and his own mental sufferings. Great job!!
I am a student of Carnatic classical music (Indian) but I love your western classical music playing. Awesome!
