It's not just the thickness, but the hardness. This steel is wicked strong. Just check out the car review videos where a big dude is smashing on the door as hard as he can with a 20lb sledge hammer and only manages to make a small, barely visible scuff. Before Tesla tempers the steel, or if it was typical car body steel, the hammer would probably leave a 2" deep, hammer-shaped dent. If it was aluminum it would go right through. All that being said, the extraction equipment fire departments use will definitely get through it. I've seen jaws of life in action and those can chomp through almost anything.

Um...what about the fact that most accidents trigger the main power disconnect? Since those doors are opened electronically, EVERY accident will require a Sawzall to get in (doors can't be opened mechanically from the outside). Also, the construction allows for explosive gasses to collect, should the batteries fail and begin to burn.
There are A LOT of safety issues that were not considered when this thing was designed. Hopefully you won't get blinded by the gizmos and will be able to cover all of them, BEFORE these things are loose around our families on the open road. FSD in their other vehicles is bad enough. Now they made a juggernaut version.

@StacheDTraining Unfortunately, as evidenced by the Hollywood fire, the driver had to break their window to get out, and the car hadn't even been in an accident. The main thing affected, was the main battery pack. So it would appear as though a fault or problem with main battery pack power affects ALL powered systems.

I don’t anticipate more than a couple Cybertruck extractions a year. In front the force of a crash has to gat through the thick steel exterior, then the crush cans, then the gigacasting starts crumbling in a designed way to dissipate more energy, and then to actually drive the gigacasting into the passenger space means somehow breaking it off of the connection with the structural battery pack and the passenger compartment frame.,.
From the rear you have a six foot long truck bed to get through. From the side…an out of control semi truck or freight train are the two things that might crush the side of the Cybertruck in. Those things will happen very infrequently.

A comment about the graphic showing the weight of various models. An abbreviation should not use the 's' to show a plural as it defeats the purpose of the abbreviation. That's according the the Bureau of Standards or NIST rules about how to write abbreviations. Also, one of units in your video, the pounds (lbs) were shown with the 's', while the kilograms were shown as kg, without the 's'. Not consistent, but at least the 'kg' was correct. And what was even better is that the 'kg' was shown with a lower case 'k' for kilo and not a capital 'K', which would mean kelvin, a temperature unit.

I was looking forward to at least, a short FYI video from your channel. I believe this will be a safe vehicle as it must be designed per USA crash test standards. However, it is anybody's guess thus far as to how expensive it will be to repair, much worse, how long it will take to repair.
The little information is that the castings, unlike steel frames, will "give" by integrity failure. If true, it will be expensive as you can only fix it by replacing the cast. Again, this is hearsay, so take it with a grain of salt. My experience with castings has been that they are either whole or not whole unless it is a corrosion/erosion failure. On the latter, it can get complicated if you do a successful weld build-up because of the difference in grain structure, yield strength, heat stress, etc...
I am disappointed that first responders do not have access to essential information on dealing with this vehicle in case of a rescue situation. Safety is always first!

    • @StacheDTraining
      @StacheDTraining  9 місяців тому +4

There are "crush cans" that are replaceable. A lower speed crash shouldn't damage the casting. I'm working on getting information on the way the casting behaves in a crash. It'll likely be a standalone video.

@@Roddy451the castings are designed to crumple sequentially from the front, back. And they have pre-designed points where you can cut off the damaged part and weld on a new part, which Tesla stocks. Keep in mind a casting isn't replacing a bunch of separate pieces that can just be unscrewed from each other. Regular frames are welded and rivited and bonded together, so if a regular frame gets damaged you repair it the same way - cutting off the damaged part and welding in a new part. The only thing the casting changes is it speeds up and lowers the cost of production.

@@happyjoyjoy6976 I specifically included "USA" because the reality is that it is a USA-only vehicle. I know this truck will never pass a pedestrian test in other countries. I will be fair and say that it will protect the driver and passengers in a USA collision but will inflict serious damage/injuries to a pedestrian, cyclist, unicyclist, one-wheel operator, skateboarder, phone-looking-zombies, etc.
I don't care for trucks as a consumer. They are inefficient and clumsy. If I need one, I just rent it.
Last, as a mountain biker, I care about pedestrians, etc, and it is fair game that other countries will not allow this on their roads. The same goes for the Hummer.

@@StacheDTrainingoriginally it was going to be 3mm. Everyone thought that right up until the day of the reveal. The panels were originally going to be the entire structure. Instead they've gone with a hybrid approach where the steel panels hold most of the weight, but the internal frame also does a bit of work, too. I guess they found that that would be the best of both worlds. And it means they could go with thinner steel

Great facts and good info, but a few things were wrong. Many non-employee normal people have gotten Cyberturcks. OCDetailing is among them. So far between 500 and 1,000 have been delivered. Some required NDAs is my understanding, probably for people like Jay to get his review/introduction out. Ground clearance in "extract mode" is 17.4in, while "entry" is 6in. As for the hurricane flooding issue, Tesla has actually done a great job with warning drivers, fully charging the cars before emergencies, or optionally discharging the pack and putting the vehicle in low power mode to prevent fire or minimize damage. For Tesla drivers, Superchargers are free during for a week before and week after hurricanes hit land, so utilize that free charging and evacuate if possible.

Unless the Cybertruck crashes into a wall, you need to worry more about the other vehicles involved in the crash.
On a serious note, most things on the cybertruck are exectly where they should be. The high voltage cut loop is in the front, under the hood, that disables the 800Volt propulsion battery.
The cabin is indistructable, so you probably won't need to cut any of the pillars, just open the doors and/or break the windows.

Because of the cybertruck's "indestructible" design all the force casued by the crash get transferred to the people and things with in it. Early cars were much more durable to the extent that they sometimes dent walls without any serious damage to the car but manufacturers moved away from that design because while it was safer for the car, it was deadly to the driver so basically this dangerous abomination musk made is the opposite of revolutionary it's basically devolving the entire craft of making cars it's just an ugly car with a braindead design made electric.

It *is* waterproof. The "wade mode" is just an added layer of protection for when the battery is going to be intentionally submerged for long periods of time.
