One of the most scariest looking crashes in this sport. A really big testament to the safety of these race cars that Myatt was able to walk away from a crazy crash.
This might be worse with the car basically disintegrating. Matt Mills in the 5 ultimately hit the detached engine, and the gas cap lodged in the catch fence. The fire is likely the fuel cell being left behind as well.
That fencing is like a cheese grater... The racing industry needs to put some type of acrylic or other transparent barrier to keep them cars from being torn apart hitting that fencing... Can't get lucky forever. Especially open wheel which has had recent major accidents killing or seriously injuring a driver.
Turn a few car parts into car parts and shards of ultra strong polyethylene... I do understand your logic and it's true we need to find something, but we need to find something that won't make it worse in a really bad situation. I worry about a bad safer barrier failure too, but it's been the best thing since helmet's in racing.
