Every decade, there's that one coach where we go "He won the Super Bowl?!" In the 70s, it was Don McCafferty who won in Baltimore. In the 80s, it was Ditka. In the 90s, it was Switzer. In the aughts, it was definitely Billick (Gruden was a good coach and if he had one more year in Oakland, he's winning a Super Bowl anyways). And now, the 2010s, it was easily Dougie P. You forgot to put Bill Belichick on the list of coaches that never won a super bowl. He had an ok team but he just needed a franchise quarterback. Sad to see such a legend never win the big game. 😞
Mike Tomlin can somehow win a super bowl but can't beat Tim Tebow, Mike Glennon, and Ryan Finley. 3 playoff wins in the last 10 years. Let that sink in. I'm a Steelers fan so you know that I'm not biased
The only people who believe Mike Tomlin is bad are a small portion of Steelers fans. He literally has had just as much success as Bill Cowher. In fact, on average Tomlin wins MORE games than Cowher.
@@TheTorridestCheese Tomlin has had great offenses and defenses year in and year out. Cowher did not. Cowher did not make close games with 4th string QBs and injury riddled teams. Tomlin has won 3 playoff wins in 6 appearances in the last 10 years. To put that into perspective, Cowher won 7 playoff games and a super bowl in 6 appearances in his final 10 years with significantly less talented rosters. Tomlin always throws other people under the bus. He's gotten rid of our last 3 OC's because he didn't like them as a person
Kubiak was pretty good in Houston and then won a SB with Denver, I don't know how I feel about that. I guess I can't think of many horrible coaches that won, though. So someone has to make the list.
Really? George Seifert? Guy rode Bill’s coattails with a legendary offense and an underrated defense and then played placeholder after ownership forced Bill out.
He won 2 SB's. You can say 89 was Walsh's team, but 94 was mostly it's own creation with free agency. Seifert isn't an all-time great, but he was a decent coach in the Levy and Grant and Reeves level.
See, I didn't think McCarthy was that bad, but now since Matt Lafleur we have went 13-3 twice in a row and it is his first years coaching I think it i safe to say Mike was terrible.
coaches defeated by the 2015 Denver Broncos: Jon Harbaugh, Andy Reid, Mike Tomlin, Bill Belichick (twice), Ron Rivera in the Super Bowl, etc. you need to put some respeck on Gary Kubiak's name
How is Gruden overrated for winning wit a defense he didn't construct and washed QB. What does that say about Tony Dungy? Gruden had the Raiders contending but ran into the 2000 Raven defense,Tuck rule and Al Davis not liking him.
Another factor was the Dikta coached teams ran into the 49ers in 2 NFC Championship games. The one time they got to the Super Bowl, the 9ers got beat in the Wild Card round. The 9ers were the Bears kryptonite. In fact they lost 24-0 and 20-0 in both NFC Championship games to the 9ers.
So glad to see you calling out Jon Gruden. His Raiders were good, but never got there. He goes to Tampa, wins with a team he didn't build, but the cracks were already starting to form. He already started butting heads with the GM and players... bad enough that Emmitt Smith wanted no part of that situation. He chased off most of his best players, and the team collapsed around him.
Unless I am missing something, Mike Ditka was signed by and played for the Bears in the 60's under Halas and even won a national championship during that time. Meaning Gary Kubiak isn't the only coach to win it all with the same team he played for.
Don McCafferty inherited a great Colts team from Don Shula in 1970, won that year's Super Bowl, lost next year's AFC Conference Championship, was fired after starting 1-4 in 1972, coached the Lions to a 6-7-1 record in 1973 and dropped dead just before training camp in 1974 with 28 career coaching wins.
Don’t forget Gruden after winning the Super Bowl with Tampa he only made the playoffs twice and he was one and done both times. Let’s not forget him and Bruce Allen got rid of the good defensive players like Lynch and Sapp to try and rebuild their offense and the QBs Gruden went with are Brian Griese and ... Chris Simms. Sure he eventually got Jeff Garcia and still had guys like Derrick Brooks and Ronde Barber but still failed and got fired after going 9-7 after starting 9-3.
Mike Tomlin belongs on this list. The guy has gone 3-7 in the last 10 years in the post season. He constantly drops games to terrible opponents they should beat easily. He regularly shoots his team in the foot by making terrible decisions like going for 2 in the wrong situation or punting when he shouldn't. Honestly if he was the HC of any other team he probably would have been fired years ago.
I'd put Tomlin on here for the simple fact that he creates a culture that leads to a bunch of divas creating a circus, it never fails every year someone does something off the field to create a circus
He is what Marvin Lewis dreamed of. I give Marvin credit for rebirthing the Bengals to a point but along the way he lost control of his team's more troubled characters and just became the uncle at the BBQ, not the COACH
I dont really agree with doug pederson because while the entire team was on ir he was able to get practice squad guys into the playoffs and was one catch away from the nfc championship game in 2018. Reich was a huge factor in the sb win but I truly think that pederson could do it again. Also with all the fun drama around the eagles its becoming more apparent that pederson really never had control over personel which is also interesting. I guess we'll see what happens with his next team
Being a native Texan who is a Packers fan (my family was from Wisconsin) and constantly surrounded by Cowboys fans (25 years of mediocrity and counting), I could go off on a whole tangent on Jerrah right now (with Switzer and McCarthy being a BIG part of it...on the latter, like I said...Packer fan). But I'll be the bigger man and let it go. Can you say 26 years of mediocrity and counting??
Barry Switzer was the ultimate college coach. His recruiting ability was second to none. Once he fielded superior talent, he just had to make sure that morale was good and the playcalling wasn't attrocious. You can't coach that way in the NFL
Haven’t watched the vid yet, but here are my picks: Doug Pederson ✅ Mike McCarthey ✅ Mike Ditka ✅ Mike Tomlin ❌ Jon Gruden ✅ And if we’re counting coordinators too, then: Adam Gase ❌ Matt Patrica ❌ Bill O Brien ❌
Tomlin is a bit overrated, but he doesn't belong on that list considering his 14 years streak of winning seasons and how he never had a losing season yet. The rest of the people on that list wouldn't come close to that.
Correction, chemical dependency of marijuana does exist. It’s estimated around 9% of heavy users develop a chemical dependency. That’s not meant to demonize marijuana, but I grow tired of people incorrectly stating that you can’t become addicted to it. I haven’t done the leg work into if studies were done on weaker strains or if chemical dependency was as prevalent decades ago when marijuana wasn’t as potent.
As a Packers fan I hate that you put up McCarthy, but think it is fair. Biggest indictment is the Seattle game. Losing that was inexcusable, and I think it had to with the team mentality. We should have been out for blood, wanting revenge for the Fail Mary. If we had that cutt throat attitude, no way Morgan Burnett would have gone down. We had a chance to not just beat the Seahawks and their insufferable fans, but instead we were the ones humiliated. Compare and contrast that with the Ravens stomping on the Titans logo. I still think the team and fans lack that sort of mentality, and it is very much to our detriment. Teams do not recover from those sorts of losses. See eg Falcons collapse against the hated, cheating Patriots. When that happens you just have to move on then and there. I think McCarthy was a good coach until after the Super Bowl. he was excactly what we needed to bring Rodgers in and stand up to Berty Judas and his antics. Somewhere along the way Mac stopped being a good coach. Hopefully, LaFleur can redeem us with not just one but two titles before the windows close. I want to match the Cheatrots in SB titles, without the asterisk, and with beautiful, classical uniforms, as opposed to those ugly digs with that stupid Flyng Elvis.
Everybody rags on Berry at Dallas but the fact is he ran a good team until Jeruh managed to micro manage it to death....as he does to this day. The proof is the Cowheads suckage ever since.
Yeah. Switzer was retired when Jerry called him to replace Jimmy Johnson. And the discipline of that team was awful. Aikman was furious at Switzer for that, as he knew him from collage.
Great video as always! Just a quick note I noticed: Unless you meant that Kubiak only ever played for the team he coached in the Broncos, you left Mike Ditka out of the conversation. He played on the 1963 NFL Champion Bears, leading the team in receptions that year. Keep up the great vids!
no greater proof of luck and gruden than the dumpster fire that is the team formerly the oakland raiders (never call them the other city) 100 million, the mack trade and all those picks later and we are still mediocre at best
Goes to show that great players matter more than a great coach. Since coaches are more expendable as well as the fact that theyre not in the line of fire so to speak.
You know who'll never win won? Coach/Owner Jerry Jones! (Those were Jimmie johnson teams) Lol. Next Al Davis. Calling plays from the skybox. "Tell em to go long!"
Gary Kubiak is NOT the only coach who won a Super Bowl with the team he played for. Tom Flores played quarterback for the Raiders in the early 60s before winning two Super Bowls with them as head coach in the 80s, eventually getting inducted in the Hall of Fame. He also won rings as a player (with Kansas City) and an assistant (another one with the Raiders).
2017 was that year when a mediocre coach and a terrible quarterback teamed up with an average defense and a subpar defensive coordinator to dominate the NFL. Then they were all lead to the promise land of winning the first Super Bowl in franchise history by a backup quarterback who had so little confidence in himself that he almost quit the game entirely before the season.
My Analysis On 5PV's Video and My Opinions On These Coaches: Gary Kubiak: Won 2 Super Bowls as Mike Shanahan's OC (didn't call plays). Best HC Houston ever had even if it was because of JJ Watt. I wouldn't say he was a bad coach in any way but the 2015 Broncos were definitely carried by their defense. Brian Billick: Playcaller of the 1998 Vikings, one of the greatest offenses in NFL history. He wasn't really a bad coach during his time in Baltimore, but the majority of the credit for the 2000 run definitely goes to Marvin Lewis, Ray Lewis, and Ed Reed. It also didn't help that Billick never had a good QB during his time in Baltimore. Mike Ditka: Even if the 85 Bears Super Bowl was mostly thanks to Buddy Ryan, Ditka to this day has a big impact on the Bears and Chicago as a whole. Iron Mike had some good years before and after 85 as well, so I believe that success shouldn't be measured in how many Super Bowls you make. Jon Gruden: I'm not gonna talk about that racist, sexist, homophobic piece of #$%@. Mike McCarthy: The biggest talent waster in football history. If I had a dollar for every time I heard "Aaron Rodgers is the real HC of the Packers", I'd be pretty rich. Doug Pederson: The ineptitude that plagued Philly for years after SB52 wasn't his fault. Countless bad decisions from the front office were the main cause of their downfall. Also, Reich only called plays once he was hired as the Colts' HC. Barry Switzer: He was basically Mike McCarthy before Mike McCarthy. Honestly, he was notorious for many unspeakable things throughout the 90s. Thoughts on what I have to say?
Gruden is only human, cancel him if you want, but he has respect from those who know him far better than us. White knights of keyboardia, I ask you how truly tolerant of diversity are you when fail to tolerate the (percieved) intolerant then by those actions you prove yourself to be amongst their ranks. We all fall short of perfection and we all have shameful moments that may not be made public, I don't like the things he said or wrote but I don't think of him as less than equal to human. Forgiveness and a willingness to move on in a world where our biggest challenge is the decline of analytical skills and a Hitlerization of anyone not PC in all forms of media.
Have you ever thought about having Weregonnalose on the Dumpsterfire podcast? I just watched a video with you and David Land on with the iRacing Indy 500, and you guys were laughing up a storm about his funny ass videos
I still think McCarthy is getting way too much crap from fans. And it's way too early to say he isn't going to turn the Cowboys around. I am sorry. As good as A-Rod is, he didn't carry that entire team himself to a Super Bowl title. McCarthy is a much better coach than he gets credit for. I love how the narrative has shifted so quickly about Mike. For years he was considered one of the best coaches in the NFL and was even credited by many for Rodger's development into an all pro QB. Now after two seasons in GB that didn't end in playoff berths or success and one year in Dallas, he's a hack who was never worth a damn and Rodgers carried him the entire time. And a big reason why the Packers got better after he left was not solely due to the new HC. It was due to a shift in philosophy by the front office. The finally decided to spend money on FAs and did their part to make the defense better.
After seeing Mike McCarthy on the Cowboys, everyone should realize how much of a testament it is to Aaron Rodgers that the Packers were as good as they were this past decade.
Poor Marv. That man had a stacked team but ran into multiple teams that were even more stacked in 3 of those years, and a bit of bad luck against the Giants.
George Seifert should get an honorable mention here even though he did win 2 Super Bowls. He was extremely fortunate to inherit a team with both Joe Montana and Steve Young (not to mention GOAT wide receiver Jerry Rice). Despite all the talent that was already stockpiled with the 49ers, he still lost 3 playoff games at home, two of which were by double digits. When he moved on to a different team without all that talent, Seifert only won 33.3% of his games.
Switzer winning it all is why the Cowboys haven't done squat since. Switzer's win convinced Jerry Jones that he was right and inflated his ego beyond anything anyone could deflate.
Fun story about Barry Switzer is that Troy Aikman hated him and is the reason Troy went to UCLA instead of Oklahoma out of high school. Allegedly, he was pissed when Jerry hired Switzer and almost retired because of it.
As a Buccaneers fan, I can promise you none of us think of Gruden as a great coach. He won the Super Bowl against his former team with a team built by Tony Dungy. He then proceeded to dismantle that team and never win a playoff game again.
"McCarthy can only muster 1 ring with that QB excellency" Just to play devil's advocate... So does that "excellent" QB, but hey, there's always next year... Maybe
Mike Tomlin belongs here. He won one because he took over a Super Bowl caliber roster and after winning it all he's done nothing but underachieve since
Also there was huge drama/beef between Switzer and Aikman that dates back to when Switzer coached at Oklahoma they were QB and coach for a short time and then Aikman transferred.
IMO, Mike was a good head coach. He built good teams when Favre was there and when Rodgers took over. I think the disappointment came after the 2014 season, although making the title game in 2017, Mike was on the decline. I believe he just got tired of the game and wanted away. I think he can turn Dallas around as the season wasnt his fault, the team needed a culture like.. seriously needed change after Jason Garrett

I'm super hyped to see where LeFleur will go with the pack
You know ... it’s really amazing how much The Players matter.
If mike McCarthy isn’t on this list
Edit: he is, what a waste of talent
He’s on the thumbnail. 6:50
@@HugeStan920 MM didn't do it alone. He also has help from Ted Thompson reach strategy in the draft and horrible FA moves landing starting WRs like Taco Wallace.
@@kershekfamily Who dishonest BS, Taco Wallace was not drafted and he wasn't brought into start either. He had to start because of all the injuries. Get your facts straight.
Seifert ?! The guy was offered a superbowl team then trashed the Panthers
McCarthy lost because Brett Favre threw a bonehead pick and Bostick got hands of rock.
You forgot to put Bill Belichick on the list of coaches that never won a super bowl. He had an ok team but he just needed a franchise quarterback. Sad to see such a legend never win the big game. 😞
2:14 This man's savage sharpness of Ray Lewis knows no knife edge.
Mike Tomlin can somehow win a super bowl but can't beat Tim Tebow, Mike Glennon, and Ryan Finley. 3 playoff wins in the last 10 years. Let that sink in. I'm a Steelers fan so you know that I'm not biased
well i mean in the past 10 years when it was the 3 bs prime they didnt have a defense
@@unpricedhydra3492 And that's in large part due to Tomlin.
@@chuckyjamesamartin1968 What? Cowher frequently blew it to lesser teams.
In the 7 seasons Ditka coached the Bears without Buddy Ryan he had 5 seasons with 10+ wins, including a 14-2 season in 86.
He then was a bad coach in New Orleans where nobody in American history has succeeded besides Sean Payton. He was a good coach, a bad GM.
Absolutely. Check out Seifert's amazing work with Carolina when he went 1 - 15.
He won 2 SB's. You can say 89 was Walsh's team, but 94 was mostly it's own creation with free agency. Seifert isn't an all-time great, but he was a decent coach in the Levy and Grant and Reeves level.
Mike McCarthy it’s 4 and 10 on your own 20 your team is only down 3 pts with 8 mins left what do u do?
McCarthy: “Fake punt”
See, I didn't think McCarthy was that bad, but now since Matt Lafleur we have went 13-3 twice in a row and it is his first years coaching I think it i safe to say Mike was terrible.
That Chucky-Gruden comparison was funny as all hell
That's been a thing since the 90s....
@@Buttington_Headerson yeah but when is that never funny bruh
Feel like you're not giving Kubiak enough credit for making Osweiler look good enough to ruin the Texans franchise
coaches defeated by the 2015 Denver Broncos: Jon Harbaugh, Andy Reid, Mike Tomlin, Bill Belichick (twice), Ron Rivera in the Super Bowl, etc. you need to put some respeck on Gary Kubiak's name
Murderous Ravens defense....well played sir.
Make a super bowl would be interesting video too. Lovie Smith, Ken Whisenhunt, Jim Caldwell etc
Fivepoints is a weird paradox, his video titles and thumbnails are like clickbait, but unlike clickbait, he actually delivers
Jon Gruden. Won with a hall-of-fame defense he had no part in constructing and has been overrated ever since
he’s improved the raiders a lot. with a bit of better luck this season they’re probably in the playoffs
Yep! Glad Tony Dungy got his ring regardless
@@bigpimp72 "Jon Gruden isn't overrated, he almost made it to the play-offs"
GRUDEN IS THE MAN!
FootBall Savant.
Players still matter.
The first person that came to my mind is Doug Peterson
Doug was good when he won but after that season he fell off
@@nflnightmare6393 Once Doug held the Lombardi, he gave up and laid down with it.
The problem was McCarthy just never evolved after 2010. He was a good coach at first.
Doug Pederson better be here. Dude got hard carried by Frank Reich
The only think skip Bayless ever was correct on was calling him Kyle “should have been a” Boller
Marty Schottenheimer comes to mind when I think of coaches who won the most regular season games, but couldn't translate it to the playoffs
I love Gary Kubiak and Brian Billick. Brian gave the Ravens identity. I'm glad John replaced him but I'll always be grateful for Billick
All of Chicago gasped when Ditka appeared
Bud Grant did get an NFL championship and 4 Grey Cups so he got something
I dont really agree with doug pederson because while the entire team was on ir he was able to get practice squad guys into the playoffs and was one catch away from the nfc championship game in 2018. Reich was a huge factor in the sb win but I truly think that pederson could do it again. Also with all the fun drama around the eagles its becoming more apparent that pederson really never had control over personel which is also interesting. I guess we'll see what happens with his next team
I'm really disappointed Mike McCarthy wasn't #1, but bonus points for putting him on the thumbnail! 😆
Haven’t watched the vid yet, but here are my picks:
Doug Pederson ✅
Mike McCarthey ✅
Mike Ditka ✅
Mike Tomlin ❌
Jon Gruden ✅
And if we’re counting coordinators too, then:
Adam Gase ❌
Matt Patrica ❌
Bill O Brien ❌
Tomlin is a bit overrated, but he doesn't belong on that list considering his 14 years streak of winning seasons and how he never had a losing season yet. The rest of the people on that list wouldn't come close to that.
Pete Carroll: 1-1 Super Bowl record for the Seahawks.
Good video otherwise.
The “Dirty Bird”??? Wow! That’s a blast from the past. :)
"Mitch Trubisky isn't good" "But he won NVP"
Mike Tomlin won't be on this list but he should be.
Wonder why.
I clicked on this to see if Tomlin would be on it
Rite?
The Steelers have never fired a coach in my lifetime.
Next question.
no greater proof of luck and gruden than the dumpster fire that is the team formerly the oakland raiders (never call them the other city) 100 million, the mack trade and all those picks later and we are still mediocre at best
Would’ve been better off just paying Mack
Goes to show that great players matter more than a great coach. Since coaches are more expendable as well as the fact that theyre not in the line of fire so to speak.
You know who'll never win won? Coach/Owner Jerry Jones! (Those were Jimmie johnson teams) Lol. Next Al Davis. Calling plays from the skybox. "Tell em to go long!"
The head coach of the '70-'71 Baltimore Colts. That's right, I couldn't tell you his name either.
This is great. Surprised it doesn't have more views
Doug played for the Eagles
He didn't win one as a player in Philly though.
In Barry Switzer's defense (I hate the Cowboys), you should do a "WORST NFL OWNERS" list.
Also traded the Patriots a 1st to get Boller which we used for Vince Wilfork so thanks Billck
You won’t find to many Bears fans crediting the ‘85 SB to the genius of Ditka’s coaching magic.
How about one hit wonder Nfl players or something. Funny ass video, ur jokes are amazing. Keep it up
Wow, these stats are sad. Thanks for reality check.
My Analysis On 5PV's Video and My Opinions On These Coaches:
Gary Kubiak: Won 2 Super Bowls as Mike Shanahan's OC (didn't call plays).
Good analysis!
@@FivePointsVids Thanks. I've been doing this all my life. ;)
Forgiveness and a willingness to move on in a world where our biggest challenge is the decline of analytical skills and a Hitlerization of anyone not PC in all forms of media.

this production was brought to you by the firing of Doug Pederson
Thank you patrick mahomes for not putting andy reid in the intro
Andy Reid would have been in the video, but he couldn't manage his clock and showed up late.
@@VinceLyle2161 true but at least he got there with the eagles
George Seifert should get an honorable mention here even though he did win 2 Super Bowls. He was extremely fortunate to inherit a team with both Joe Montana and Steve Young (not to mention GOAT wide receiver Jerry Rice). Despite all the talent that was already stockpiled with the 49ers, he still lost 3 playoff games at home, two of which were by double digits. When he moved on to a different team without all that talent, Seifert only won 33.3% of his games.
Switzer was chosen by Jones to stick it to JJ. Won a ring in spite of himself. But Ditka takes the prize
He was a good coach for that era. The Game has passed him by though
2nd and probably Brian billick would be my pick. Along with Doug Peterson next.
Nah, the worst is definitely Switzer. Everyone else is vying for 2nd.
@@matthewmazzatto8003 Switzer was retired when Jerry called him in for Jimmy Johnson. He didn't even saw all of his 5-year contract out.

"McCarthy can only muster 1 ring with that QB excellency"
Just to play devil's advocate... So does that "excellent" QB, but hey, there's always next year... Maybe
Mike Tomlin belongs here. He won one because he took over a Super Bowl caliber roster and after winning it all he's done nothing but underachieve since
Not to mention that he's gotten monstrous talents from drafts each year thanks to his great GM, with which he did nothing.
